How have you been affected by the Tran's community?

As there are so many posts on here that discuss Transgenderism, has anyone been directly affected by the Tran's community, good or bad?
I'm quite young and only know one Tran's gender person, as far as I'm aware.

My trans man friend has a full beard. I really really hope you are welcoming of him when he goes into the ladies loos. He has been using the mens for years.

The difference is, that transmen do not tend to go round raping people.

Men do. (Some men, before you all start).

And people have been assaulted by women before too so giving individual cases is unhelpful and inflammatory.

Except statistically men are far far more likely to be dangerous to women and trans identified men statistically have the higher rates of sexual assault than normal men. Either way, having men in women’s spaces destroys our right to privacy and dignity

MirrorMirror1247 · 18/04/2025 17:38

I have a relative who is trans. Other than that I've not been impacted at all. I just call my relative what they want to be called, same as I would for any trans person.

I can tell you I have only ever been sexually harassed/assaulted by men. Never trans women.

not a popular opinion on here but I’m devastated for the trans community, it’s a step backwards for them and all the women who have been shouting about them.

Genuinely, why is it a step back for them? They have the same rights as I do.

PaintDecisions · 18/04/2025 17:39

My friend's traumatised and mentally ill teenage niece has decided she's transgender because the voices in her head don't tell her to kill herself as much when she is presenting as a boy.

Get family are all terribly supportive of this, and encouraging her to medically transition rather than seeking trauma or mental health support for this young woman who has had horrific experiences and who is suffering with her very severe, diagnosed and unmedicated schizophrenia (because Big Pharma 🤔).

The cognitive dissonance is so strong and so worrying.

I know five teenage girls who have all identified as male, each of whom have grown out of it.

I know one adult female who identifies as male who was booked for a double mastectomy but decided against it at the last minute. Her female partner identifies as NB. They have a very toxic, domestic abuse filled relationship.

I've waited outside the loos on many occasions until the men identifying as women have left the public loos and my work loos.

I am an active member of SEEN.

Men who identify as women have the same rate of violent and sexual offending as other men.

That doesn't answer the question though does it. What percentage were specifically perpetrated by trans women?

LittleBigHead · 18/04/2025 17:38

Men do. (Some men, before you all start).

They’re still trans. They’re still affected by this judgement.

It's actually higher according to studies. This graphic is a useful visual representation.

Summertimeblahness · 18/04/2025 17:40

Negatively:

  1. Being told that I am a cis woman rather than a plain old born like it woman. I actually am plain and old but c’est la vie.
  2. Being told that I was abusive for believing that you can’t change sex.

Positively:

  1. I’ve learned a lot and am grateful.
SleepyDormouse59 · 18/04/2025 17:40

Globules · 18/04/2025 17:36

I'd say it's affected me.

It's consumed my MN timeline.
It takes up my news space.
I've had to repeatedly get my head around the ongoing changing guidance for schools and ensure it's enacted.
I've had a friend buy me a drink from the profits of his latest book on transgender.
I've had one of my daughters good friends ghost her because she used the wrong pronoun.
I've had to tolerate mixed sex toilets.
I've got very very very cross about how county council paperwork now asks what gender 3 year olds identify with and what pronouns they prefer used.
I've had 4 friends deal with their child deciding they're trans... Talked things out with them... Only for the child to decide 1-6 months later they weren't trans.

So whilst I haven't had any direct trans acquaintances, the subject sure has taken up a lot of my headspace.

Same here. My autistic adult daughter has variously identified as non binary and a trans man. She's now, finally, comfortable as a woman but it took a lot of tact on my part to prevent her from damaging her healthy body.
I still can't discuss these issues with her as she's still a firm trans ally, and she refuses point blank to consider other points of view.

GardenGaff · 18/04/2025 17:34

Yes, I’ve been bumped down in my finishing position at my local park run by a man racing as a woman.

And a women only Campervan group I’m part of now has men turning up to meet ups.

That’s interesting.

Do the men id as women or are they just chancing their arms?

Annascaul · 18/04/2025 17:41

Freysimo · 18/04/2025 17:38

Genuinely, why is it a step back for them? They have the same rights as I do.

Because they think they’re entitled to (and were in fact already claiming) far more rights than mere biological women.
Finally being told no must sting, tbf.

Theunamedcat · 18/04/2025 17:41

Why hasn't thIs been bounced to the dark side of mumsnet? Usually all trans threads are or are we suddenly allowed to discuss this topic?

Lauren1983 · 18/04/2025 17:41

'Live and let live'

So it is fine if other women are abused, raped, intimidated, at threat of losing their jobs etc as long it is just other people it is affecting it seems.

For the 'live and let live' brigade....your 11 year old daughter comes home and says her classmate Jack is now Josie. Josie is now changing in the girls changing room. Your daughter feels embarrassed and uncomfortable...but live and let live...

Your 85 year mum is in hospital. She needs help being bathed. The female nurse assisting is 6'4 and has a beard. Your mum is vulnerable and scared...but live and let live...

Your sister who has spent 15 years training in her sport gets to a national tournament. She is beaten to the gold medal she has been working for by a transwomen who is bigger, stronger and has a higher lung capacity...but live and let live...

Kardamyli2 · 18/04/2025 17:42

Lounderflounder · 18/04/2025 17:34

Neither. Are you really so incapable of believing someone has a different opinion and viewpoint to you?

What I don't believe is that anyone would think biological women are as much at risk of being attacked by another biological women as they are by a biological man.

AInightingale · 18/04/2025 17:42

I'm staggered that so many women have encountered these men in women's public toilets.
I get the feeling that it doesn't happen so much where I live (Northern Ireland) though I'm of an age where I don't go to bars or around the city centre of an evening, so who knows). But I also have a sense that those men might be wary of the consequences if they strayed into a ladies bathroom - a right tongue lashing from the women, or being met by an irate boyfriend/husband/father outside. It's still that sort of society in a way that other parts of the UK aren't.

I'm sorry you have been harassed and assaulted by men, but transwomen ARE men and every bit as capable of sexual assault.

If they wanted you to pretend they were a cat would you do that? Should we all be forced to go along with people pretending to be the opposite sex or can we recognize reality if we choose?

And people have been assaulted by women before too so giving individual cases is unhelpful and inflammatory.

So we've now established that women have been assaulted by men, women, transwomen and, presumably, transmen.

I guess that makes you relating your individual experience unhelpful and inflammatory too 🤷‍♀️

Theunamedcat · 18/04/2025 17:44

The school attempts at telling my child he is trans directly affected me he isnt he said he isnt but they "wanted him to be sure" and reassuring him that this isn't home we support you here....like I hadn't supported my child since before heveas born

It does answer the question. If 1% of the male population identifies as a woman then 1% of male violent and sexual offenders are trans identifying men.

You’re seriously suggesting encountering a man in a women’s bathroom is equivalent to encountering a woman from an ethnic minority?
Fucking seriously??

This is a common tactic by TRAs and it shows just what a racist movement it is. Constantly comparing black women to men, coopting the challenges of black people and applying them to their majority, white middle class beliefs. If your first teach is ‘ if black womens can be women then so can men’ you are a racist
