So how do I live in the female gender?

1000 replies

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:28

There are 8834 people in the UK who have a Gender Recognition Certificate.
I am one of them.

To get it, I had to show evidence of transition, surgery etc. Lots of hoops

I also had to swear a Statutory Declaration. I had to go to a Magistrates Court and swear a legal declaration in front of a magistrate. It was all very formal.

I had to swear this:

" have lived as a (insert ‘male’ or ‘female’ as appropriate)
throughout the period of years before the date of this statutory
declaration and I intend to live in that gender until death."

This declaration is legally binding. Apparently if I don't follow this, I can be done for perjury.

So...how do I live as a female and live in that gender until death - I have sworn to do this in front of a magistrate.

I was very surprised that so few trans people have Gender Recognition Certificates.

And on this occasion, not wrong. Thought there wasn’t a risk, isn’t one.

You’re dining out on luck.

According to the 2021 Census data;

  • Males who identify as trans are five times more likely than other males to be imprisoned for sexual offences.
  • Those declaring a transgender identity are less likely than the general population to be victims of murder.

Do you have any actual evidence, or “just a quick Google”?

Well that's completely the opposite of what we are constantly told.

JeannetteBlue · 18/04/2025 21:39

Op i think you have been brave, respectful and fair.

I had a trans lady cut my hair recently. I could tell she had been born male because of her hands and voice. I didn't run out screaming, nobody died.

And your point is?

You've posted several 'drama type' comments on this thread, none of which are relevant to the OP's questions. Do you get off on 'stirring'?

Soontobesingles · 18/04/2025 21:41

You continue to live in the se way you always have, this ruling is about sex not gender. Your sex based rights were never impacted by the equality act.

OP’s figure of 8k is for people with GRC. According to the census, over 48k people identify as trans.

Flowergirlie, you are missing the point: that the law was unclear meant NOT ONLY Transwomen could go into a female only bathroom but ANY man could as long as he said the right words, because organisations were quick to catch on that it could ruin their reputation if they didn't land on the "right side" of public opinion, the right side being, give girls/women more inconvenience to deal with.

The inconvenience was not from Transwomen, it was from the hurdles they now had to jump through to protect themselves from other men exploiting this legal loophole to predate women.

Clafoutie · 18/04/2025 21:44

Catisgluedtome · 18/04/2025 15:13

Stop taking out all the negativity women have experienced on one person.
You posters are directing your anger at the wrong person. Stop.

I agree. People have just launched in on the OP as if they represent the views and attitudes of all trans people, rather than an ( unknown) single person.
Yet these same people would be rightly outraged if someone presumed that one woman represented all women.

Yes no problem with that

Well I do. Many trans men just look like blokes, and have body mass to match due to being on testosterone. These are trans men pictured! And you may say that you still don't mind sharing loos and changing rooms with them because they were born female, but the point is you wouldn't know. They would just walk into the women's loo, and your experience would be "omg there's a bloke in here". But legally, that's now where they'll have to go!

I was sexually assaulted by a man when I was walking home.

How do you know it was a man? It might have been a TM, or a TW who still had a penis.

In response to your original question - I don't know.

Your issue isn't, and never was women's problem to sort out. It also wasn't women's responsibility to ensure trans people are protected in men's toilets either, because it's men that are causing that issue, not us, generally. It should be men ensuring that trans women are free to use men's toilets without harassment, not women being asked to make their vulnerable space more dangerous for the sake of being kind & inclusive.

We shouldn't be strong-armed into being a collective mother for all of society, a safe space personified, even if it puts us at greater risk than we already are of sexual assault. That's just wrong. We have enough of our own difficulties to deal with. Thanks to trans activists and people on the Left who thought that trans rights was a more glamorous & exciting topic than the safety of plain old silly women, this erosion of women's rights we've seen in the past decade was one more.

Well if my niece was that talented (rare) and she would be knocked down by a trans woman (even rarer) both of them would be scouted for man united as clearly they are both so talented. Also most amateur sports like football are grouped in age years, so a 30 year old wouldn’t be playing with a 13 year old. Tell me, how many trans women have you seen on your football pitch knocking 13 year old kids. You must have seen it many times to be this concerned

50-year-old trans swimmer shared locker room while competing against teens: ‘The girls were terrified’

Irate parents were forced to build a makeshift tent out of towels to shield their teenage daughters from a 50-year-old transgender woman who was sharing a locker room with the young girls at a swim…

Transmen who get pregnant are doing a pretty poor job of being men.

Transwomen who father kids are doing a pretty poor job of being women.

Transwomen who rape have not got the hang of it either.

Love this!!!

Probably would have been best to just stay the way you were born 🤷‍♀️ I’m not really interested in how people ‘feel’, I’m interested in their chromosomes. XX = you can share a bathroom with me. XY- Toddle off to the men’s please.

usernamealreadytaken · 18/04/2025 21:58

SleeplessInWherever · 18/04/2025 19:38

Yes, because we’re so adamant we can’t share bathrooms with men, we walk ourselves into them when we’ve had a drink and don’t fancy the queue in the ladies. 😂

But it’s our choice, it’s not forced upon us.

FunAtFiftySomething · 18/04/2025 22:00

I don't know the answer to your question, OP but yanbu to ask it. I am sorry that this week's ruling, whilst being a cause for celebration for many, has brought despair to a huge number. I hope you can continue to live peacefully and happily as YOU. 💐

Appledrop · 18/04/2025 22:05

Transwomen have more in common with men than with women because they are men, which raises an important point about language. Instead of using the term 'man,' perhaps we should refer to all men as 'transwomen' to create clarity and inclusivity?

Karasis · 18/04/2025 22:05

@Flowergirlie91 only a total dumbass would think this issue is solely or even mostly about women being afraid transwomen will attack them. It is about being allowed to define spaces as single sex at all. The danger is men. You really need to do some reading around this.

recipientofraspberries · 18/04/2025 22:06

@CliantheLang I've actually never had a comment made in sincerity have the laugh reaction put on it before on mumsnet. I'm speaking here in good faith, if you want to disagree with what I'm saying have the decency to do it openly, not privately let me know you're laughing at me.

I’m just clarifying what the Supreme Court ruled. If an organisation decides to have single sex spaces they have to be biologically single sex. So yes trans men are considered a subset of women and trans women are a subset of men. It would be unlawful to not accept a trans person.

an organisation is allowed to decide its own policies. They just now have clarity about what the definition of sex is for the purpose of the equality act 2010.

why would women be bothered if trans men came to a woman’s event? They are female. That is what has just been clarified. Why would it shut those events down?

Ahorsewithnoname · 18/04/2025 22:07

Anewuser · 18/04/2025 16:18

I can’t give an opinion because I’m not informed enough.

@anyolddinosaur can you say for a fact that those people who went to court and got the certificate have gone on to have babies or rape? Or is this your suspicion?

I know I’m in the minority but I wish OP well. I saw a program the other day with two TW on it. If I saw them using the ladies loo I wouldn’t have been any the wiser. The thought they can’t use a suitable toilet now seems ridiculous. And no, they shouldn’t use the disabled toilet either, because they are not disabled.

And no, they shouldn't use the women's toilets either, because they're not women

That isn't a problem because women don't go into loos in order to assault other women.
