So how do I live in the female gender?

1000 replies

Definitelynamechanged123 · 18/04/2025 14:28

There are 8834 people in the UK who have a Gender Recognition Certificate.
I am one of them.

To get it, I had to show evidence of transition, surgery etc. Lots of hoops

I also had to swear a Statutory Declaration. I had to go to a Magistrates Court and swear a legal declaration in front of a magistrate. It was all very formal.

I had to swear this:

" have lived as a (insert ‘male’ or ‘female’ as appropriate)
throughout the period of years before the date of this statutory
declaration and I intend to live in that gender until death."

This declaration is legally binding. Apparently if I don't follow this, I can be done for perjury.

So...how do I live as a female and live in that gender until death - I have sworn to do this in front of a magistrate.

I was very surprised that so few trans people have Gender Recognition Certificates.

I feel totally lost here, can't understand the vitriol the OP is getting for wanting to discuss this.

By vitriol do you mean that people are explaining things factually to the OP?! The moral of this story is, don’t pose a question if you are unprepared for people to tell you the truth. The OP asked and we answered, there’s no vitriol, just truth.

Are we? I didn't realise we all had to be from the UK on here.

Well (speaking slowly) we are discussing the implications of a UK court case…

Redorangehaze · 18/04/2025 15:49

For me, living as a female means fighting for women’s sex based rights, including single sex spaces and sports.

Maybe you could do that?

Out of interest OP, what do you think it means? You apparently felt like a woman, so what does it feel like? Because I'll tell you now, it's not what most transwomen seem to think it is, ie admiring our own bodies, dressing as if it's Saturday night every day, pillow fights and sleepovers. These are the ways in which a mans brain would imagine what being a woman feels like and why so many women get pissed off- you essentially make a mockery of us, caricatures of females and frankly, it's bloody insulting.

If anything, our bodies more often than not can be a nuisance- being looked at, gawped at, objectified, groped. But of course the average man would love nothing more than to have his body adored and touched at constantly because generally speaking men are much more sexual creatures. My point being, your male brain has romanticized the idea of being a woman. If you were one, you wouldn't need to ask how it feels.

That sounds like you have a stereotype of what trans people are like.

I presume you don't like stereotypes about women - but are you ok with stereotypes about transwomen?

You don't know me and what I am like, how I present..

I have genuinely no idea how to live in the female gender. I was born female, remain happily female, am the mother to grown up kids, but despite this I was told by a transwoman that I am not a very good at being a woman.
Examples being that I've never had my nails done, don't wear make up and my hobbies are woodwork and fishing.
Maybe I'm a man.

I've found that women speaking the truth are often accused of vitriol. Or hysteria.

I didn’t realise there was so much hatred towards trans women. It makes me sad.

My son has come out as trans a year ago, and I am so upset this is going to be the reception and understanding that they are going to get.

There’s no hatred here, but we do deal in facts and truth. People can’t change sex, it’s immutable and I am genuinely sorry for you and your son that you have been sold a lie. Be angry with the people that did that, not the women who are challenging this ideology because it’s harmful to us.

Sunflowervase · 18/04/2025 15:52

I dont want yo get involved in the main part of the thread but in answer to you original question if you want to live as a woman the major thing to do is tell your doctor (make or female doesnt matter) to totally ignore everything you say and blame everything on either anxiety or hormones. Once you achieve that your on the way! (This is meant to be lighthearted in case anyone takea it otherwise!)

If you've talked over, shushed, dismissed or ignored the thoughts, feelings or opinions of adult human females ,you are male.
TBF I know women who do this.

lol.
I'll have you know, my 50m swimming certificate has opened up countless opportunities for me! 😆

I've been on a number of trips/courses where you are supposed to be able to swim 50m.

I've never been asked for my certificate. Nor to prove I can swim 50m.

What if you can swim 50m but don't have a certificate to prove it?! You'll risk yourself if you claim you can and you can't. And if it's part of your career, you'd be found out pretty quickly if you couldn't.

Carry on as you are.

The court ruling only applies to the definition within the Equality Act.

I all other contexts, where biological sex is not a relevant protected characteristic, you can live as your gendered self.

cantkeepawayforever · 18/04/2025 15:54

Testingmypatience1 · 18/04/2025 15:39

What do I hope for?

That you get the third spaces where you deserve to feel safe for toileting. That you get services tailored for your unique needs be that refuge or other safe spaces. That support is offered by those trained properly in the trans movement.
That sports expands to include trans athletes.
That prisons offer a wing dedicated to trans prisoners. That hospitals consider your needs, and place you in private rooms where possible.

That we can live in peace with everyone’s rights respected fully.
That if you value womanhood so highly you too will want us to live in safety and with dignity.

I’d agree with this.

Women should have safe women-only spaces, be free from discrimination on the basis of their sex, and be able to discuss and gain support for issues that pertain to them as born female.

Trans people should have safe spaces, be free from discrimination and gain support for issues pertaining to them as trans.

The key point is that these needs are separate from one another, and without full agreement from everyone, should not be conflated (so there could be a joint ‘under-represented groups in x profession’ group as well as a ‘group for women in x profession’ and a ‘group for trans people in x profession’ - in the same way as a Christian group and a Hindu group and a Sikh group can coexist with an interfaith group concerned with all matters of all faiths).

It feels better.
My body looks right.
My body feels right.

It doesn't feel wrong - but how do you explain that to people who don't know that feeling.

Put yourself last. You’re just a mum and a wife. Facilitate everyone else
Know where all objects are in the house

See, I am a Mum and wife and I don’t do these which just goes to show ‘living as a female’ can only ever be stereotyped bollocks. The only way to ‘live as a female’ is to have a female body. A man can only ever have a male body. It may be a male body with a deliberately induced endochrine imbalance and surgery, but it’s still male.

I’m sorry so many people have lied to you.

Well, speaking to people like shit on a public forum is pretty vitriolic, no one has to confirm and validate the OP they were just asking a question.

@IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 Would you provide examples of where women have spoken to the OP like shit, please? How are you defining what speaking like shit is? Does the fact that you don't agree with it make it shit, or are you invoking some international measure of shit-talking?

Pick a few examples of things people have said and say why you don't agree with them. People may listen. They probably won't accuse you of talking shit because we're better than that.

Sweetheart, we're still working towards living freely as women ourselves.

I have a lot of sympathy for the personal troubles you've been through, but they're not remotely the same as ours. You will get no helpful advice from women because your experiences are so incredibly different and your prospects are also very different. We can tell you what it's like having men as foes - but you're probably aware of that already.

If and when we have achieved equality and a fair society for ourselves, perhaps we'll have the space to make the huge mental shift required to help you with yours. Until then, I suggest that you form similar campaign and activist groups that women have, for centuries, and start from there. It's a long and tiresome road. But as you're no doubt aware, you don't really have a choice. Good luck.
