Had to pay for a private gp appt tomorrow due to waiting times. I've got back ache, loose bowels, pain to left and right lower side and under right ribs, random pains all over body and passing mucus.

Might be something you ate. Hope your appointment is helpful

PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe · 15/04/2025 19:39

For how long have you had these symptoms? And have you had (any of) them before?

GreenYodaFace · 15/04/2025 19:40

2 weeks. Gradually worsened. I've had off bowels before but never like this.

I wouldn't start panicking about cancer if that's your fear, there are various other things it could be. IBD is one option, which is treatable, but it could be something more benign still.

Try not to worry too much.

GreenYodaFace · 15/04/2025 20:35

I've taken ibrupfen and the pain is a bit better so obviously inflammation ? I feel like I need a poo all the time.

How are you feeling now? I hope you find out about your health problems. Btw,are you perimenopausal? Have you been abroad and any weight loss?
Last year, I think I may have caught a virus or something. The doctor doesn't even know what was wrong with me. I had loose bowels, which started with a cough and sore throat.

GreenYodaFace · 15/04/2025 21:48

I'm 37 so not sure if I'm peri? I've had a cold but I dunno if that would make me this ill?

OP posts:
mummysmagicmedicine · 15/04/2025 21:50

I had similar end of Jan, a week of passing mucus, diarrhoea and a cold. Then it kinda stopped, I felt tired a week after then was fine x

mrsfollowill · 15/04/2025 21:56

You might have colitis with those symptoms. You would need a referral to hospital for a colonoscopy to check for it- it is inflammation and sometimes ulcers in the bowel-ulcerative colitis. It is treatable and you can live a normal life with the right medication. Hope you get some answers/treatment Flowers

GreenYodaFace · 15/04/2025 22:20

Thanks all. Just feel crappy! I feel like my bowel is really full! I really hope they can do something tomorrow

My dp has this a few years ago, was very ill for around a month, passing blood and mucus with stools, constantly needing to go the toilet, went to bed and didn't really move for a couple of weeks. We think he likely had food posing as it resolved on its own eventually but it took a few weeks for him to feel completely okay again and I've never before or since seen him that poorly. Hopefully it's something similar and easily resolved op.

GreenYodaFace · 16/04/2025 15:43

Saw the GP. She took bloods. Examined my back passage and abdomen. Said it maybe a bug from chicken that can give symptoms for 2 to 4 weeks? Or Ibs or some type of colitis. She's asking my GP to sort a stool sample for inflammation and bugs

I go through phases of passing a weird orange mucus and I feel bloated and a bit odd. I assume it’s just IBD or something.

GreenYodaFace · 16/04/2025 16:03

She was very thorough. Typically the pain is a bit better today lol.

You should avoid ibuprofen if you could have an IBD. It can make it worse.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/04/2025 16:17

OP you have given the symptoms I have in a Crohn's colitis flare up, although I would also be passing a fair bit of blood too. You should be referred for a colonoscopy, I hope.

Sounds like IBS

TermsOfUse1 · 16/04/2025 18:41

Best not to take ibuprofen. Paracetamol and/codeine are better choices for stomach pain. Ibuprofen causes inflammation in the digestive tract. If you did have IBD it can make it worse and trigger flares. Ibuprofen (and other NSAIDs) shouldn't be taken for at least 2 weeks prior to the stool tests as they can artificially increase the result. PPIs such as omeprazole should also be avoided.

Did you mean IBS? IBD is inflammatory bowel disease and there's no just about it! Strong immunosupressants medications, steroids, surgeries, stomas, fistulas, strictures, lots of time in hospital, and can be life threatening. IBS on the other hand, irritable bowel syndrome, is horrible and unpleasant to live with, but it doesn't actually cause any damage to your gut.

mindutopia · 16/04/2025 18:46

You need a faecal calprotectin test and blood tests to look for inflammatory markers as well as other things (like coeliac). It’s very possible it could just be a bug, which is why it’s good to leave these things a few weeks to see if they sort themselves out. Your GP should be able to order the stool test and bloods, but definitely the stool test you can order online send off to have done privately. But I’d really give it a few weeks first because if it’s an infection, there’s no sense spending more money when you’ll feel fine in a few days.

Have you actually had a diagnosis? You really should get that checked out. If you have an IBD (inflammatory bowel disease - crohn’s, ulcerative colitis) it really needs monitoring and treatment. Bits of your bowel could literally be dying off! A diagnosis of IBS (inflammatory bowel syndrome) should only really be given once everything else is ruled out but even so you could be supported to make dietary changes to avoid further damage.

It's been going on almost 3 weeks

please don’t assume anything. Go and get it checked out please? I had bouts our sickness and stomach pains for a few years on and off. I just thought it was a hernia or something like IBS. Eventually it got that bad and I had a blockage in my bowel. It was a tumor .Prob been there for years. I’m ok now . But never ignore. Constipation, diarrhoea, or any changes. I never had blood either.

GreenYodaFace · 20/04/2025 10:56

Stool samples etc been delayed by bank hol. Due to put them in Tuesday. I feel really cold today.

OP posts:
GreenYodaFace · 24/04/2025 18:44

All bloods came back normal. Had to have a fight with my GP to get fit and stool samples sent but apparently they've gone. Feeling cold and still passing mucus. This has been over 3 weeks now ! How is everyone else .?
