Had to pay for a private gp appt tomorrow due to waiting times. I've got back ache, loose bowels, pain to left and right lower side and under right ribs, random pains all over body and passing mucus.

I've taken omeprazole thinking it may help and my pain to my right side has eased today.

No choice but to cope really! Hopefully I'll find something that works soon... and same for you.

Interesting if omeprazole helps. Definitely don't take ibuprofen if that's the case - it irritates both the stomach and intestines. Lower back pain is something I get when I've got colitis, particularly if the inflammation is lower/left side colon. It's very low and distinctive though now I know what it feels like.

I did have a normal calprotectin prior to diagnosis and intermittently still will during flares. For me the only accurate test is a colonoscopy and endoscopy with biopsies. Having said that my symptoms were prolonged and involved weight loss and blood. I'd maybe see how long things last and if they persist I'd think about pushing for endoscopy so you're sure.

What are you eating at the moment?

GreenYodaFace · 07/05/2025 18:51

Eating plain really. I've been so bad today. Been the loo 6 times and it's got looser and looser.

Sounds like Diverticulitis? You’d need a colonoscopy to confirm.

TermsOfUse1 · 07/05/2025 20:22

Diet is sort of a case of what works for you. A low residue diet is always a good place to start with diarrhea, and then its just finding what works for you. When flaring I only eat bone broth, poached chicken breast, rice noodles, cheese, butter, soft white bread, cream crackers, rich tea biscuits, and scrambled egg.

Do you take any probiotics? One strain, sacchromyces boullardii, can be quite constipating. Some people can find it does help to slow things down whilst also improving gut health. Might be worth a try? Have you had any antibiotics in the last few months?

My infection and inflammation markers were low so i think if I was in a flare they'd be higher ?

Infection and inflammatory markers being normal is reassuring and in lots of people will mean that there isn't IBD/diverticulitis etc... but they can miss it. Colonoscopy is the only 100% way to rule things out, so if symptoms persist then that's where you'll end up. You can get post-infectious IBS and lingering symptoms after an infection/virus even if the screen is negative so unless symptoms are severe (weight loss/blood/vomiting) or last for months it may just be that. Agreed that any gastro problems are very annoying!!!

It'll be interesting to give them a try, and see how you get on. Be warned that probiotics can cause some bloating/discomfort/random symptoms for a few days until you get used to them.

GreenYodaFace · 08/05/2025 16:54

Thanks all. Started on the probiotics and have omeprazole and gaviscon. I feel cold all the time

OP posts:
Turmerictolly · 08/05/2025 22:38

I didn’t have any inflammatory markers or infection so I wouldn’t rely on that. Push for a colonoscopy if it persists.

GreenYodaFace · 10/05/2025 08:56

Thank you. All bloods done yesterday normal and celiac screen isn't back yet. I don't think I've been tested for h pylori ?

I had something really similar. For about a month I was having awful pains all over my abdomen and in my ribs. Diarrhoea every time I ate anything or even sipped water. No blood or mucus. Loss of appetite. I eventually went to the GP; blood tests and poo tests came back normal. A scan did show a couple of gallstones, but whether this was the cause of it or whether it was a bug was never really established.

LilDeVille · 10/05/2025 09:14

Inflammation from autoimmune disease and a gluten intolerance in my case OP.

Deboh · 10/05/2025 09:25

Doesn’t sound anything like perimenopause. Absolutely ridiculous that people blame everything on that on here and it’s actually dangerous.

How are you doing op?

Deboh · 10/05/2025 09:27

Are you booked for colonoscopy op?

GreenYodaFace · 10/05/2025 09:30

I'm due to receive my celiac result then we discuss gastroscopy and colonoscopy. I think i need both!

OP posts:
GreenYodaFace · 10/05/2025 09:32

Today I've taken omerprazole, gaviscon, gi wellness supplements to help!

OP posts:
Deboh · 10/05/2025 09:34

Good. I hope you get both, that the best way to see what is going on.

GreenYodaFace · 13/05/2025 19:02

So all my pain has gone !
