To think im really ill

GreenYodaFace · 15/04/2025 19:31

Had to pay for a private gp appt tomorrow due to waiting times. I've got back ache, loose bowels, pain to left and right lower side and under right ribs, random pains all over body and passing mucus.

Pain Under ribs can be gallbladder.
mucous can be IBS.

Reduce your diet to fresh cooked chicken and rice. Not packet stuff, cook both yourself.

madaboutpurple · 24/04/2025 19:34

Hi Op, I do hope that you recover soon and that you find out what is causing you to be ill. I wish you all the best.

PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe · 24/04/2025 19:48

Passing of mucous isn't something that merely happens with IBS, its a symptom of IBD too. I hope yet some answers soon @GreenYodaFace

I have flare ups like this too. I tend to go back to chicken, rice, pasta and bread. Bland foods and loads of water.
I had gallstones and BAM as a result. Hope you get answers soon

GreenYodaFace · 24/04/2025 20:46

Thanks all. It's horrible. It's been almost 3 weeks and I feel wiped out with it !! I'm on plain foods too. The GP wanted me to wait until the 1st May to get this sorted too!!

OP posts:
lunaemma · 24/04/2025 20:50

Could be campylobacter, I passed mucus with that

GreenYodaFace · 24/04/2025 20:52

I wonder if after 3 weeks they'd still detect it.

Moonlightfrog · 24/04/2025 20:58

I feel your pain OP. I’m going through similar and am waiting for stool sample test results to see if I have any signs of infection or food poisoning. I’m unable to eat much at all as it causes pain and diarrhoea, I have passed blood and mucus, been to the doctor twice and just told to ride it out. It making me feel awful (physical and mentally) and I just want to feel better. I hope you get some answers, keep pushing for more tests if it continues.

All bloods came back normal. Had to have a fight with my GP to get fit and stool samples sent but apparently they've gone. Feeling cold and still passing mucus. This has been over 3 weeks now ! How is everyone else .?

If you are cold please keep in mind the symptoms of sepsis, which could follow e.g. salmonella

mechanicalpencil · 24/04/2025 21:01

Sounds awful OP
Wishing you a speedy recovery from whatever horrible thing it is 💐

GreenYodaFace · 25/04/2025 15:26

The pain is better today after 3 weeks but still tender ! I have low folate according to the bloods

OP posts:
lunaemma · 25/04/2025 15:43

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it’s campylobacter. The pain was bad for me and I had the feeling that something was really wrong which is why I ended up going to a&e

hattie43 · 25/04/2025 16:02

I am going through something similar right now , all bloods have come back good but I’m still in a lot of pain on the right and left hand side . The pain wakes me up over night but I’m eating really bland to try and calm things down .

GreenYodaFace · 25/04/2025 16:05

It's horrible! I'm still waiting on my stool samples for any bugs to come back. @hattie43 what does your GP think it is ?

OP posts:
Relaxd · 25/04/2025 16:10

I had something similar recently for over 2 weeks and turned out to be a big bacterial infection which antibiotics resolved. Felt really tired throughout. Blood tests can be normal but stool sample should show the infection. If both are clear then more likely something chronic like IBS. I definitely had felt mine was a one off infection and not a long term condition although couldn’t recall eating anything dodgy.

Teenybub · 25/04/2025 16:34

I’ve not read the full thread but this sounds very similar to when I have an IBS attack and become compacted. I’m not sure if anyone has pointed out but ibuprofen makes this much worse for me, and codeine so if you are still taking painkillers maybe try avoiding those two. Hopefully it’s this because for the first couple of years I struggled but I find it easy to manage now and it doesn’t impact me at all.

I’m also waiting stool results . My GP is private and is very thorough and suggests if the stool results for H Pylori are negative then an endoscopy to see if it’s an ulcer or hiatus hernia would be next suggestion. She’s not pushy at all and says sometimes it’s dyspepsia where you get symptoms with no real answers .

A few people have said campobacyter but I've not been violently ill? I think the low folate may be because I'm pooing so much or not absorbing much.

You should avoid ibuprofen if you could have an IBD. It can make it worse.

I was going to say the same thing!

I would stick to paracetamol; if absolutely necessary to take Ibuprofen, take a Nexium ( Omeprazole) to protect the stomach lining and always take with food.

Although some parts of your history can fit with Campylobactor, I think you would be much more acutely ill to start with.
It's a notifiable disease, so hopefully your stool sample will have asked for "Microscopy, Culture and Sensitivity" as well as screening for blood, H Pylori, etc...

GreenYodaFace · 26/04/2025 21:43

I've started folic acid and pain is so much better today.

GreenYodaFace · 28/04/2025 09:43

My infection screen was negative.

How is everyone? Bit frustrated saw my own GP more bloods and awaiting my calprotectin levels. I'm a bit better but I want this investigated.

OP posts:
TermsOfUse1 · 03/05/2025 14:42

Not great. In a big Crohn's flare up atm. I've been flaring fro 2 years straight, so patience is beginning to wear very thin.

Calprotectin levels are a good place to start. That said, if they are normal and the symptoms last months it doesn't definitively rule out IBD, and it can be appropriate to do a colonoscopy anyway to be sure you aren't missing something. If you've taken ibuprofen in the last 3 weeks the calprotectin may be artificially raised anyway.

Where is your back pain?

GreenYodaFace · 04/05/2025 20:00

2 years ?!? Omg how do you cope? Back pain is lower down and impeding movement a bit. My calprotectin was 40 so normal.
