How many Easter eggs do you buy DC?

OtherCoraline · 11/04/2025 16:50

Just bought my Easter eggs for DC. They each have:

1x medium size smartie egg
1x medium size creme egg
2x small size eggs (one mini egg, one milky bar)
1x smartie bunny

And a packet of mini creme eggs to hunt around for.

I know that if you add the sugar value up, it’s a lot, obviously will be spread out etc but I can’t help but feel that it’s not lots? I definitely got more as a child and they won’t get any from anyone else. It’s just we have a holiday next week so I’m just trying to save money for that.

@Fuckthecamelyourodeinon Easter isn't only about Christians, just like Christmas isn't.

You're allowed to celebrate it, regardless of religion, as it predates Christian traditions, just like Christmas does. It's a blended tradition, so take whatever you want from it. We celebrate it with a view to the beginning of spring and new life. Hence we all see things like eggs and rabbits and flowers and bonnets etc just like we see holly and flames/light and tile logs etc at Christmas.

I agree with this.

Growing up we were taught that rolling your Easter egg represented the stone rolling away from the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. But we knew it also represented Spring and lots of other lovely things going on.

DS came home from Primary school with this one and I asked him to think about why an egg shaped stone would be used for sealing a tomb when a round one would be more logical.
Eggs = fertility/Spring

1 large egg each, small eggs to do a hunt and then a few bags of Easter chocolates (like mini eggs, cream egg, maltesers bunny etc) one dc is 20 and the other is 13. Dcs also get one from their auntie and their grandma

They are getting a pack of mini eggs and money as they never eat the eggs and i end up eating them all.
Will probably do a little easter egg hunt with some mini choc eggs as well.

pencilcaseandcabbage · 12/04/2025 13:45

One medium one each from us. They'll get a large one each from grandparents and another from auntie. They are all uni aged now but it never occurred to us that we should be buying them more.

FrootScoot · 12/04/2025 14:00

Ours usually get a book and a Lindt bunny although Lindor have been requested more recently. When they were little we had egg hunts with smaller cream egg sized eggs or those plastic ones filled with mini eggs

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 12/04/2025 14:06

That's just ridiculously daft and just spoiling them.
What's wrong with 1 egg and a packet of mini-eggs if so absolutely necessary.

okydokethen · 12/04/2025 14:07

1 each then an Easter egg hunt with a variety of small sweets and chocolate treats. DD wants chalks eggs too and I decorate the table and make it a bit of a fancy breakfast. If I had the money I’d buy a little jellycat too - but I don’t right now.

it can symbolise whatever a person wants it to symbolise.

I wonder why we have an obesity problem in this country?

Brighteyedtriangle · 12/04/2025 15:19

1 egg each.
And some little mini kinder/bunnies for egg hunt

Normally get a 3/4 more from family

NC18264 · 12/04/2025 15:20

1 medium egg each from us. Will probably be given a medium egg or a medium Lindt from each set of grandparents as well. Mine are still young enough that I can squirrel them away and make bits appear over the next month.

We aren't religious so Easter isn't a thing for me. Didn't have eggs when I was a kid so it's not something i realised people do so much for. When the kids were younger we used to have one from MIL but that stopped when the kids were around 6 (when Easter egg hunts stopped being so interesting). Certainly didn't realise that kids get more than 1-2 of the ones that are about the size of a mug (I'm assuming that's medium?) - surely they would end up having chocolate to eat for weeks.

My teen still thoroughly loves an egg hunt, my 6 year old (nearly 7) has been hiding toys and practicing.

I know a lot of atheists, they all do Easter eggs.

Don't go on Instagram etc there's kids receiving baskets of presents and all sorts of chocolate...

minipie · 13/04/2025 09:05

One each and some mini eggs for the family. GPs usually get them another. And various egg hunts etc

Oh my giddy Aunt!
Perpetuating the myth that love is only valid in terms of 'things' and money apent.
Waiting for the week after next when the 'I didn't get an egg, my OH clearly hates me', or the 'I only got one Alain Ducasse egg (£43), mt OH doesn't value me', posts!

AirFryerCrumpet · 13/04/2025 09:22

We're not Christian/religious so we don't do church or any of the Jesus stuff.
We just celebrate the traditional spring festival elements - flowers, lambs, eggs, chicks, bunnies, family.
Same as Christmas, purely the old fashioned winter solstice, Yule, mid winter, bringing trees inside, feasting and gift giving.

Anyway, I decided not to buy any eggs this year - a combination of my kids being a bit older and not believing in the Easter bunny, wanting to avoid eggs made of mostly oil & sugar and very little cocoa, and wanting to spend the money on things that they really need/want.
So mine are getting a little lindt bunny and a Lego and a new outfit to wear.

One medium egg each, would never have occurred to me to buy them more than one. In fact I didn’t realise anyone did until today 🫣

Same!

I suppose it’s like the ‘piles’ of presents just from parents that seem to be the norm at Christmas now.

My kids get to ask for one gift each for their birthday. No piles of presents in this house and fortunately they don’t have social media so aren’t fully aware other families get more than one.

They also used to be happy with their £1 coin from the tooth fairy until one parent in DD’s class gave a £5 note per tooth. Still think that parent is a 🤬

housethatbuiltme · 13/04/2025 10:56

This is so mumsnet.

In real life I have never known anyone kids get just 1 small egg or 'nothing' (unless they are a baby of early weaning or below and even then they usually get a teddy or something). In fact people got far more in the past (as several PP have mentioned about their up bring). Dozens of eggs was common in the 80s and has gone down (likely due to the massive increase in cost of Easter eggs). So the oh so faux pearl grabbing 'I never even realized we could buy more than 1' is such bizarre virtue signalling. Same people who pretended there was something moral abhorrent about buying an egg during covid.

Having less doesn't somehow make you better, its like some weird competitive under eating 'we have less than you'. Competitive martyr-isms on this site is fascinating to watch.

I don't think buying 1 egg or 100 eggs makes anyone better or worse.
OP asked and I answered, the only people upset by those of us who think 1 egg is enough probably aren't very confident in their decisions.

Musicaltheatremum · 13/04/2025 11:37

One egg each but they are 32 and 30

Eldermillennialmum · 13/04/2025 11:39

My DC are young but I buy them one each and possibly another Easter treat such as a book or craft items. I don't think they need lots of eggs although they often get one or two from a family member.

katand2kits · 13/04/2025 12:01

One each, a decent sized one. Then they tend to accumulate a couple more from family, usually the small to medium ones.

Peanut91 · 13/04/2025 12:10

1 egg each plus I have bought some small ones for an egg hunt. They will then get some eggs from other family and that is plenty for them
