I just peaked at middle class wankerism

At a farm café... naturally. And daughter is on special diet, so she was eating her packed lunch. And she went to eat her apple ...I found my self saying "oh darling, let me wash your apple, it's got brioche crumbs all over it"

What a dick I am 🤣

OP posts:
Cluborange666 · 05/04/2025 13:23

And apples…

Riapia · 05/04/2025 13:24

Actually even the working class are able to afford brioche, unfortunately.
😉😁😁.

Butchyrestingface · 05/04/2025 13:26

I could hear the faint strains of choirboys singing 🎵 Jerusalem 🎵 as I read that OP.

Viennetta?!? The badge of the lower middle class wannabe?! At least have Angel Delight.

Yes 😂but only if it's butterscotch. I'd add in Arctic Roll, too, if you can find one anywhere.

Annascaul · 05/04/2025 12:48

Shouldn’t have been in the kid’s packed lunch, then, if that were the case here…
I suspect op’s point is that there’s somehow something elitist about brioche.
Bless.

ha yes, even Wetherspoons uses Brioche buns for its burgers. lol

JeanGenieJean · 05/04/2025 13:30

ExpressCheckout · 05/04/2025 13:09

Ha ha. I hope there are no Northerners at the farm cafe, that would be a catastrophe 😂As a Northerner myself, I also must admit that I've no idea what brioche is, and neither does my whippet. 😂

Brioche is the stuff you use to tempt your ferret to get out of your trousers

Napface · 05/04/2025 13:31

Maitri108 · 05/04/2025 13:09

I always thought Viennetta was posh. It's quite the occasion in my house.

Edited

Dp called me middle class for buying a viennetta last week 😂 we really must be bottom of the barrel usually when it comes to class

SirChenjins · 05/04/2025 13:31

This thread is peak MN, it’s got everything - the outrage, the snark, the triggering, the accusations of hate, the huffing, the humour bypasses - it’s all bloody here! 😂

OP is humble-bragging.

You can't humble-brag with stuff sold as Tesco own brand - brioche. It is not as if caviar stuck to the apple. It would have been humble-bragging 40 years ago - I have never tasted brioche as a child.

BarneyRonson · 05/04/2025 13:33

Being impressed by Brioche is parochial wankerism. This is the consensus view I think.

Being unable to refer to dinner or supper because you only use the word ‘tea’ is linguistically challenged and we shouldn’t mock the afflicted. Some people have “vocabulary stunt”; it’s a spectrum disorder.

Ah, another middle class bashing thread.

It’s not being humourless to point out how cringe middle class cosplaying is.

the best post so far! The majority of these posters will have rich husbands and can’t believe their luck. The proper middle class just get on with their shopping and days out and don’t need to performance brag. You only have to go to Booths and watch the shoppers. They just buy their stuff in their normal clothes without drama. They’re probably laugh at the Waitrose lot 🤣

I think that is the point of the thread 🤦‍♀️

Clarinet1 · 05/04/2025 13:37

Dear me, Viennetta is not middle class and neither (underneath it all) is Hyacinth Bucket.

ruethewhirl · 05/04/2025 13:38

DinaofCloud9 · 05/04/2025 12:41

Does anyone else hate the word darling?
I find it one of those words that makes me shudder.

OMG yes! It always sounds like something out of a TV play somehow. Very dated (unless said in a cockney accent e.g. 'Awright, darlin'?' 😄).

When I was in a shared house at uni I remember one of my friends would always be calling 'Darling?' when she didn't know where her bf was. She was all of 20 and it just sounded like she was playing grown-ups. Made me cringe every time.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 05/04/2025 13:39

I hated myself when I caught myself messaging DH to tell him I'd just ordered 2 le crueset spoon rests.

BunnyLake · 05/04/2025 13:41

This isn’t current but I can still cringe at the middle class wankery (even though technically I’m working class). It was over twenty year’s ago when Japanese restaurants were quite rare and posh and I declared to a friend the food I missed most whilst pregnant was sushi. I got roasted for that.

saraclara · 05/04/2025 13:41

I do hope it wasn't one of those long life Aldi brioches that are eight for a pound, @Buckarooo . I mean, feeding your child all those additives?!

FiveWhatByFiveWhat · 05/04/2025 13:41

Locutus2000 · 05/04/2025 12:13

OP is humble-bragging.

She really isn't. Lighten up.

BunnyLake · 05/04/2025 13:43

Oh there’s some humour by-passes going on here isn’t there. 😁

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 05/04/2025 13:43

Gosh, how hideous. My ironing lady just blocked our driveway dropping my ironing off (how rude of her to help me out on a Saturday) and my poor OH couldn’t get his car up the path after his yoga session.
I feel vair vair stressy.

Annascaul · 05/04/2025 13:44

SirRaymondClench · 05/04/2025 13:34

Ah, another middle class bashing thread.

Far from it.
Just a middle class wannabe who thinks brioche will take her there.

Funnywonder · 05/04/2025 13:44

Shantayyoustaysashayaway · 05/04/2025 13:19

What is wrong with calling your evening meal tea? I don't know anybody who calls it dinner or supper.

Nothing I reckon. It’s dinner in our house. And I’m definitely not middle class. Or any class really. There isn’t so much of that sort of stuff in NI. It does exist, but not to the same degree as it seems to in England.

BeCleverViewer · 05/04/2025 13:46

BarneyRonson · 05/04/2025 12:50

I’m using the term as it is usually used.

so much trans wankerism, why do they plaster themselves in make up.

so much black wankerism, why do they pretend everything is about race.

for example.

middle class wankerism = eating a brioche and clearing away crumbs.

This is the stupidest comment I have ever seen. I think you would have to be so deeply insecure to respond to this post negativitly it's shameful. Pathetic bunch of misery. And who is the They you utter fool as though black and trans people could not also be middle class. Dog whistle at it's finest
