I just peaked at middle class wankerism

At a farm café... naturally. And daughter is on special diet, so she was eating her packed lunch. And she went to eat her apple ...I found my self saying "oh darling, let me wash your apple, it's got brioche crumbs all over it"

What a dick I am 🤣

Okay middle class is a classification used to assess people. So it is defined by the ONS. The criteria is updated as society changes. It just is.

Do the ONS do this? They classify people into socio-economic grades but they don’t appear to mention class?

I am working class, but I identify as a brioche enjoyer.

I'm wearing leggings and love an Arctic Roll though, is that ok?

Ontobetterthings · 05/04/2025 20:00

I was talking to my mum about how a product was better quality at fortnum and mason than waitroise. I felt such a dick after 🤣

Only if you have a Nan.

QuirkInTheMatrix · 05/04/2025 20:01

Dh has eaten all the Jason’s sourdough and only got co-op sourdough. Disgusting. Jason’s is elite and beats any artisan bakery sourdough I can get round here.

SharpLily · 05/04/2025 20:01

Smallmercies · 05/04/2025 19:51

Do the criteria mention brioche?

No, but it does point out that tea is a drink, not a meal.

Yeah bit of controversy around that. They change the descriptions for every class but lower and working. Don't know why. But yes they go into thst detail easier to read the government's summary if like me you are a lazy analyst.

Yawn

Why the yawn? I think it’s a shame the art of self deprecation seems to be a bit dead on here. So many po faced posters who can’t see the humorous side of saying something you realise is a bit posh (I’ll use posh as a catch all for anything more than working class) . They do say the best humour is one you can relate to, so maybe people who say things that could be considered a bit posh on a daily basis won’t see the funny side. I’m sure King Charles doesn’t laugh at himself because he told Prince George the butler win’t be there today.

I don’t think being middle class is an achievement. I think I am born into it and with it came certain privileges. You are the fool not to be aware of the privileges which comes with being born into a certain class.

Exactly. I am flippant about being middle class and joke about myself precisely because I know I am lucky to count Waitrose, baton carrots, a big house and countless other things as part of normal life. I am very aware of how fortunate I am. DF was much more UMC than us and slipped financially - he spent his life trying to claw his way back and never managed it. It made me aware that it’s not guaranteed.

Totally did

I also have a regional accent and tonight we sat on the settee to have our tea

Don't hold the brioche against me, I promise I'm still working class 🥺

I have a bit of a humour bypass about it as living in a very mixed area in London, I am just so tired of people laughing about my children’s “posh” names and posh accent. DS1 was extremely picky eater and brought bread to dip in balsamic vinegar to school because HE LIKED IT and even the teachers were laughing about him being so posh. Just don’t find it funny🤷🏻‍♀️

A brioche is a sparkly thing your granny pins to her coat but baps are things you get out for the lads when you're on the cider.

😆

I know it's so weird how MN has gone recently. Definitely seeing the effect on online trolling

I could not agree with you more! It’s beyond it now! It really is off the scale and any time anyone cals it out you get deleted … it’s like literally being gaslit in lala land were we all have to pretend this shit is real or we get into trouble!
