I've backed I Am Maximus, Perceval Legallois & Vanillier. All pretty short odds but I go by the names I like 😅

The biggest win is having all the horses go home safe at the end though! I know people who see it as cruel have their hearts in the right place and I have questioned it myself in the past, but these horses wouldn't exist if the racing industry didn't.

In most cases (and I know not all which saddens me), the horses are very well looked after, get down time to relax and are absolutely adored by their trainers, grooms, owners etc. Admittedly I don't know if some of the higher value horses are turned out, but I know at least some are.

The Grand National has been made safer in recent years as well, so on the whole I do not feel guilty about betting on it.

OK look at it from another side of the coin. Where I live there are 5 betting shops within spitting distance (choice phrase I know) how many people will spend money they cannot afford in the off chance of winning a bet and that is physical shops .Online betting is huge too . And events like the Grand National will have the bookies rubbing their hands together
I'm not advocating that we ban betting because of freedom of choice if someone wants to pass their money up a wall crack on.
Shame that choice doesn't extend to sentient animals eh?

After Uni I worked in Ladbrokes. My first day was the Grand National. I mostly emptied ashtrays. (that dates me..)

Living in a posh-ish town, that Ladbrokes is an art gallery now.
