And what a glorious day for it. I’ve chosen vanillier, minella cocooner, and stumptown 🐎

I'm backing the whole industry to be banned as it's sickening. How many horses will end up being shot today because it's not economically viable to treat their injuries?

Probably none

Well they’ll all be shot of racing gets banned!!! And it’s not a case of money when a horse gets injured it’s about chance of survival and quality of life!

Youvebeenframed · 05/04/2025 12:30

You bet- they die

Fucking awful “sport”

Erm ok. Animals die everyday 🤷🏻‍♀️

So do people but you wouldn’t kill a human for entertainment purposes.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/04/2025 12:32

Oh dear OP, it was obvious that the 🥇😇would be jumping ( pun intended) all over this thread! We had one poster yesterday who claimed that a horse had been killed this year in the Grand National, oblivious that it hadn’t actually been run yet….

It’s not my favourite race, too much depends on luck rather than skill, but I would like Kandoo Kid to win as I have a lot of time for Harry Cobden.

Hydrangeadangerranger · 05/04/2025 12:33

I’m with @Jorvik1978

Do you have that attitude towards the animals you eat everyday?

I don't.

I would happily make the odd exception...

harijes · 05/04/2025 12:47

I think I’ve been here for about 20 years.

every single year someone asks this and people have this argument.

I always wonder why it’s not on their own thread.

like if I ask what is best burger topping. I would expect responses like ketchup, not PETA full force.

OP random picks such as I am maximums and kandoo kid.

PilatesPeach · 05/04/2025 12:53

No use of animals in sport.

I do not eat meat or fish or wear animal skins however, I accept that some do but it is not necessary or acceptable to use animals in sport and I am going to unfriend people on FB who I am shocked to learn are at Aintree. It is animal exploitation - they are sentient beings and cannot advocate for themselves.

As far as all the animal nuts jumping on this post, the question is who are people back so it is entirely reasonable for some people to say none and why.

People are weird man. They want it banned and froth about it but do it from their sofas 🤷🏻‍♀️

yeah I choose randomly too. Mostly by their names I’m not abouts stats lol

But they’re not dying for entertainment. Your attitude is horrible.

It’s not acceptable to jump on threads and post their views on it. I didn’t ask that. Make your own threads

Oh so being rammed into a lorry and sent off for slaughter is ok as long as it isn’t for entertainment but instead to fill your belly? Fabulous

The animals I eat are (a) kept to high welfare standards (b) killed humanely and (c) have a lot less intelligence and emotional capacity than a horse. The grand national tortures the poor creatures, for no better reason than entertainment.

I also disagree with exploiting animals to race them for entertainment and sport but this is an important question for all our loud animal-lovers.

If you claim to be against horseracing because you love and respect animals, then chow down on animal parts, you've got a double standard there.

If you're disgusted by horses being killed but not the animals you add to your plate, this is speciesism.

Do you not see the conflict here?

I can't stand horse racing, but I also don't eat meat or anything that comes from an animal. Yes, animals should not be used for entertainment, but similarly, animals do not need to be killed for food either.

I think it is great that people are against practices which exploit animals for entertainment, but I would ask them to also consider other forms of animal exploitation in which they might participate.

We do: we de-risk activities that humans take part in just as we de-risk activities that horses take part in, but in neither case does that mean no risk of injury or death whatsoever, and I’m fine with that.

I eat animals. I keep livestock. I cull vermin. I’m not suddenly going to become hypocritically sentimental about race horses.

Oh so you’re saying because they are dumb it doesn’t matter that they are killed? Interesting

The difference being people choose to take the risk…. The animals do not.

There is no humane way to kill an animal who doesn’t want to die.

Of course we de-risk human activity. There's a lot more de-risking to be done in racing even if it continues. And the deaths on the courses are nothing compared to the "wastage" off course.

LaPalmaLlama · 05/04/2025 13:09

Also pigs are more intelligent than horses.
