What do you think looks, or is, trashy? In terms of appearance AND character?

Interested in reading a wide range of opinions. Not intended as a goady thread - I've posted to widen my own perspective.

Fillers, especially lips.
Fake eyelashes.
Fake tan.
Face lifts.
Athleisure.
Neck and face tattoos.
Septum piercings, earlobe stretchers.

Devices playing out loud in public, and
calls on speakerphone.
Allowing kids to screech and squeal and run about in unsuitable places.

Drinking on trains.

Hot tubs in terraced house gardens.

French bulldogs.

I assume you mean owning a French bulldog? Otherwise that seems a bit mean and unfair to them 😅

Yet you're not aware of that person's background or character. It's considered wrong to judge on appearance.

Dolly Parton looks 'trashy' yet she's a kind, generous soul and incredibly talented recording artist.

You're going to miss out on so much if you reject on appearance.

Excellent point. Dolly is amazing.

ScarlettOYara · 05/04/2025 12:31

"hot tubs in terraced house gardens".
So it's semi detached or detached only?
I'm guessing not social housing?

ShowDownTime · 05/04/2025 12:31

For women it’s lip fillers. Fake tan, especially on the face. Tattooed makeup.

For men it’s those long shorts that come to mid-calf and any kind of tattoo but especially the leg ones. Baseball caps when it’s not sunny.

I think with Monkey Tennis it very much depends on the attire and attitude of the individual monkeys, it's not right to write off the whole sport. Others I agree with.

What if the monkey has a nose piercing?

I did! Sorry.

No worries. Sorry if my response was a bit defensive. Feeling a bit hormonal today LOL

People who go out in their pjs and dressing gowns...

"SCUMM"!

BlahPottery · 05/04/2025 12:42

SeaUrchinHat · 05/04/2025 12:25

Father's who choose not to abandon their DC.

Trashy: people who HAVE to use an apostrophe because a word ends with a letter s. And people who can’t spell, and use ‘ect.’ instead of ‘etc.’… See how silly I sound OP? (As an aside I’ll presume the word ‘not’ was unintentional?). I could be judging you for this but won’t because I understand people are complex and nothing about being a human being is straightforward. You might be dyslexic. You could be in a rush or distracted. Your phone might have autocorrected. Or maybe you’re having a bad day or you’re feeling down and want to make yourself feel better by focussing on people you see as inferior to you. Presumably someone’s called you a snob and your reply was something along the lines of ‘I’m not a snob. I just have standards’?

BUT. What this world needs more than just about everything else is tolerance. Judge and be judged yourself, and who needs that? Can we all just live free of this shit? I’ll do what I want and you do what you want, ok?

Rtft 🙄

My father was in a care home, and in the latter stages of dementia he was cared for by a young man. This young man had dreadlocks, tattoos all over, piercings and those long lobes. He was the kindest and most patient carer with my Dad, and watching him feed my Dad and wipe his mouth, chatting away to him all the while, brought tears to my eyes.
He would have been low waged as well.
Sone people on here no doubt would judge this young man as trashy, or even "scumm".
How wrong they would be.

lnks · 05/04/2025 11:54

Scum isn’t a word

The Cambridge Dictionary begs to differ.
Scum -- a layer of unpleasant or unwanted material that has formed on the top of a liquid:
It's wider definition stems directly from this.

Body modifications - split tongue, amputations, etc

Amputations????

you mean people are having body parts removed deliberately???

DoNotIron · 05/04/2025 12:44

The homeless man who hangs about outside our local Sainsbury's guarding all his worldly possessions in a shopping trolley. Last seen modelling a threadbare coat that's three sizes too big for him and his shoes are definitely from more than three seasons ago. Trashy alright. In fact there's literal trash involved. What a horrible thread.

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 05/04/2025 12:46

People who make themselves look like a Bratz doll.

SapporoBaby · 05/04/2025 12:47

Discussing anything money except salary with anyone who isn’t a close friend. Salary should be discussed as it’s how we avoid unequal pay but otherwise money bragging is trashy.

Exceptions are made when friends are asking for help. For example my best friend asking me to look over her mortgage offer because I’m the only home owner she knows and she wanted advice.

CoffeeTable22 · 05/04/2025 12:47

People covered in tattoos, especially those with quotes/kids' names on
Doing weird pouts in photos which make them look like they're squeezing a shit out.
Exposing bum cheeks

I have. What did I miss?

OpalMaker · 05/04/2025 12:48

Fake tan, but worse than that, an actual dark brown sun tan on white skin - smacks of those nose sprays.
Massiver overfilled cheeks.
Overfilled lips.
New white cars (Audi, merc, Range Rover, etc).
Being painfully over groomed and self conscious looking (men and women).

Wtf has amputation got to do with anything? 'Trashy' people get body parts amputated? Have I missed something?

SCUMM!!!

The part where Jean-Paul Sartre shows up. It all makes perfect sense then.

Anyone who appeared on Jeremy Kyle.
Anyone that sits on their front doorstep with a fag and a can of Kestrel at 10am.
Anyone with a mattress permanently housed in their front garden.
Wearing pjs to the shop (no better if they are clean on after a shower).
Going out braless in a top designed to show protruding nipples.
Driving a 'luxury' brand car but living in a grotty house.

Okay, I admit. It's not as clear cut as being scumm-y. Emotionally damaged people can choose to become scummy, though.
