Watching one of mg favourite films again, (Easy A) and it’s got Amanda Bynes in it.

I still feel so sorry for her. She was so talented and I loved her movies and it’s sad to see how she is now. I genuinely hope she gets all the help she needs

No I didn’t feel stigmatised at all, just didn’t want anyone thinking that if diagnosed with HIV nowadays we have to shove handfuls of pills down our throats which some people had to do in the 80s and early 90s. Feeling very fortunate not to have contracted it in the early days though have friends who did and are living happily today. We also now have injectables with potential for implants in the future.

A couple of fun facts - in 2023 the biggest increase in HIV diagnoses was seen in heterosexual women in the U.K. and we are less likely to be offered or agree to an HIV test. As you say, postal tests are easily available (and free), though so many women - and straight men - don’t feel the need to test and almost half of people diagnosed in these groups are diagnosed late.

Also agree that people are afraid of the unknown and might have certain ideas of what people living with HIV might look or act like. We’re pretty normal - special but normal ☺️.

Sorry to hear about the womb issues. I’ve had a few over the past few years with scans and hysteroscopy - pesky fibroids and bleeding 😕 though sorted now. I hope the hysterectomy goes well and you don’t have to wait too long.

I'm pretty well versed on HIV so I thought (gay female with a lot of gay male friends but also was molested by somoen with HIV as a teen and thus developer a very awful phobia of it which I still haven't fully worked through) but I didn't know that, about heterosexual women.
I did know that there was an increase, a nurse friend of mine says there were a theory that it is related to more prolific drug use. Alcohol is more expensive now, women are going out and snorting coke (small cross contamination risk anyway) and having more unprotected sex.

A few years ago (maybe 2016?) I was told at a GUM clinic while having one of the hundreds of tests I've had as a result of phobia rather than exposure, that it was still more prolific in gay males and that she'd only ever diagnosed one heterosexual female and she'd slept with a black African man in Africa. It she were to be believed then that very recent (the increase).

Lesbian sex is very low risk, but I managed to end up in a relationship with unbeknownst to me, an ex introvenus drug user some years ago. She told me she didn't understand why anyone who used those drugs would put themselves at risk before 'pins' (clean needles) are free.

Tangent, sorry!

Ladbible has a lovely young man being interviewed on YouTube, who lives with HIV and dispels a lot of myths about it if anyone would benefit from watching that.

I take more than one pill a day for chronic pain, no illnesses whatsoever.

I like to think of HIV as a sort of illness such as diabetes or something? Manageable with meds to the point of a normal life. I hope I don't stigmatised anyone, I'm around positive people a lot in my social life, but I try to remain mindful.

Chester Bennington, Jonathan Davis, and David Draiman. All had horrible things happen to them as children, and Chester committed suicide.
Amy Lee, for the domestic violence she suffered.

This is gonna sound daft but I genuinely feel sorry for Melania Trump.
I can't imagine she ever wanted to be the First Lady.

Why? She had been around. She came from nowhere, could see how revolting Trump was. I should think she's pretty happy as they don't seem to spend much time together

I don't know why my mind jumped here, but can I recomend a brilliant podcast called Real Wives of dictators? Really interesting and funny.

The only one I can think of is Eva Braun, a bit of a sad soul. Then there was the Argentine one who finished her husband's work of turning one of the world's richest countries into a basket case.

Hopefully this isn't too off topic but maybe lots of people don't think much about HIV & AIDS now?

Many gay men now take PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to lower the risk of HIV transmission.

And people who do get infected, with the correct treatment can mostly achieve what is known as U=U, undetectable = untransmissable, where the HIV viral load is so low it's not sexually transmissible.

Also currently reading a book about Katherine of Aragon, definitely feel sorry for her, and all of Henry VIII's wives. Even Anne Boylen, who although wasn't exactly pleasant from all accounts didn't deserve to be murdered by her husband. I also feel very sorry for Mary I.

Daniella Westbrook.
Jeff Brazier.
Bruce Jones.

Katie Price
cbildhood trauma
adult trauma including a sexual assault in south africa
manipulated by men and others
significant MH issues with addiction
I fear for her

whitewineandsun · 07/07/2025 23:01

Celine Dion. SPS sounds horrendous. The documentary about her had me ugly crying.

Bruce Willis.

Anyone who is battling awful illnesses, really. Eric Dane has ALS. It's very sad.

Liam Payne.
Fame destroyed him.

Drugs and alcohol ruined him. He just couldn’t control himself.

Olivia Newton John - several miscarriages, then being struck down with breast cancer in her 40s, just as she was about to relaunch her career after a few years off after having her daughter, diagnosed the same weekend her father died! Then her husband has an affair with their nanny! Later a boyfriend seems to fake his own drowning and then cancer returns a second and third time. No one should be that unlucky especially someone as caring as ONJ who no one ever had a bad word for.

KitKatKathy · 07/07/2025 23:22

Not a celebrity in the true sense of the word, but I feel terribly sorry for King Charles.

We went to one of the Royal garden parties earlier in the year, where he was lead into the crowd for everyone to photograph and stare at, like one of those fancy pandas from Edinburgh zoo.

DestroyDismantleAndEngulfInFlames · 08/07/2025 01:15

Brittany Spears and Katie Price

autumngirl714 · 08/07/2025 09:59

Britney and Amanda Bynes. I really hope they both somehow find peace 🥺

Is that SA assault the same one that no one else on the trip would verify as having happened and after which ITV cancelled her?
Ditto "childhood trauma" where the story changes every time she or anyone else (her mother) relates it?
And Katie Price being manipulated by ANYONE? She has the gold medal in controlling, narcissistic behaviour so no, I do not feel sorry for her in the slightest.

And look at the trauma she has experienced with her only child:

And that was after the miscarriages! And her business collapse too! No one should have to endure such suffering!
