Watching one of mg favourite films again, (Easy A) and it’s got Amanda Bynes in it.

I still feel so sorry for her. She was so talented and I loved her movies and it’s sad to see how she is now. I genuinely hope she gets all the help she needs

Maybe a case couldn't be made whereby children under the age of 14/16 should not be allowed to perform. The movies, modelling, music industries are not environments suitable for children. Especially for very young children.
It is as if their parents loose all sense of reality and let their offsprings all alone with a bunch of strange grownups who behave like grownups in a grownup world. Because it is a grownup world. And these children become adults with a lot of problems. It really is very cruel that the world messes up these children for the rest of their lives in the name of entertainment. The entertainment industry seems to be a very dark place,
Sadly, for the other cases where celebrities are plagued by troubles which started in their own childhood homes, I can't see how such events could be prevented.

BatchCookBabe · 31/03/2025 22:28

Who's going to play the parts of children in TV shows and films though @Branster ? If everyone under 16 is not permitted to perform?

Wishyouwerehere50 · 31/03/2025 22:35

@Branster if you've ever watched Leaving Neverland it demonstrates an horrendous example of the fall out seeking fame for children.

2 very young boys with fame hungry mothers befriended Michael Jackson in search of fame and more through his influence and connection. The boys now men, declared eventually that he'd horrendously sexually abused them. And many others who have been silenced or paid off.

I don't like thinking about the position young performers are in as part of this industry.

Branster · 31/03/2025 22:44

@BatchCookBabe but at what cost? If 20 years later we learn that those children were damaged through the process? For what? So we can watch a film???
As films are clearly moving towards realistic AI imagery, hopefully there won't be a need for real children actors at all.

Branster · 31/03/2025 22:46

@Wishyouwerehere50 that's absolutely awful. So, so sad. Some mothers really don't deserve their children.
I will look up the documentary as I wasn't aware of it.

It's harrowing but excellently made documentary on channel 4. To be fair to the mothers, I actually believe they were naive and stupid beyond comprehension rather than deliberately aware. They were in effect groomed to. Shocking watch.

Karen Carpenter

@Noodles1234 why Jennifer Aniston on your list?

Prince Harry, I can’t stand Meghan and believe her to be a narcissist.

Harry was one of the best loved royals and I was happy for him when he found love.
He’s estranged from his family and old friends 😢

He made his choice to leave the RF

Petra42 · 01/04/2025 05:30

With Jennifer Aniston, the media always seem to portray her negatively due to her looks, singledom and childlessness.

Angelina Jolie : media hates her because she dared to leave her drunk abusive husband. Kids all seem happy and well adjusted and have nothing to do with father. Media loves him.

Lisa Armstrong : husband drunk drives, hits car, still has his career and fame yet she gets slated

Louise Redknapp: I'm not fan but it was common knowledge her husband was having affairs yet when she decides to leave, the press villify her.

Louise Redknapp - are you sure about that one?! Everything I'd read about their split was because she was the one who had her head turned. He wanted more babies and family time, and she wanted to have more fun, having just relaunched her career on stage (in Chicago I think?)

I've never heard any whispers at all about Jamie Redknapp cheating on her, he seemed pretty broken when they split up.

Also Angelina Jolie wasn't liked because she had a track record of getting it on with married men, Brad Pitt being one example. Agree that she's not the only one to blame for that, but society loves to blame women and she's certainly no innocent victim....

I agree re Jennifer Aniston. Much has been made about her not having children over the years, and bizarrely they seem to think this is the single thing that defines her!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/04/2025 07:47

I loath the way the press treated and continue to treat Lisa. She was cheated on and publicly humiliated and yet they try and cast her as a bitter scorned woman.

They trawl through her social media and try to make any of her posts into her having a dig at Ant, no matter how tenuous the connection (and yes, she could turn it to private but why should she). And drag her name into every story about him, which must be at best annoying and and worst painful. Particularly when he had a baby recently and Lisa's name was put into every article even though she and Ant were known to be heartbroken by years of infertility.

The fact that Ant willingly gave interviews to the sun baring his soul (which nobody does unless they have worse stuff on you that you don't want out there) and they then led the press attacks on her, that the other papers soon followed shows that he sacrificed her for good press and a wholesome reputation.

Re Angelina, no she doesn't. Aniston herself said in a Vanity Fair interview that Brad came to her and told her of his attraction to Jolie. Aniston told him to have a fling and get over it and come back to her. He was too honourable to do that though and left Aniston altogether. Then (by his own admission) chased Jolie halfway around the world. Pitt left Aniston then got together with Jolie. There wasn't an affair, all 3 including Aniston herself said this.

Also, Aniston herself got with Justin Theroux when he was in a 14 year relationship with Heidi Bivens and still living together. Bivens has made comments about their (Theroux and Aniston's) affair and how she was blindsided and told to leave her and Justin's joint house.

lolly792 · 01/04/2025 08:23

I agree about Lisa Armstrong. Cannot believe that her (ex) husband managed to hang onto his career after drink driving, and potentially killing or maiming innocent people, yet the vile tabloids take a delight in portraying her as the bitter ex. They obviously can’t cope with a strong single, child free woman who’s got on with her life.

Petra42 · 01/04/2025 08:27

@SpidersAreShitheads there's quite a lot out about Jamie and he's definitely been known to have a wandering eye, especially on that sports quiz show he was on. I know two who have worked there. The trouble is Louise got fed up and wanted a new life. She called him out on it and left. He just got a brand new life with the new one, not realising she'd get pregnant so quickly. Louise just hasn't wanted to advertise his cheating as she's always protected her kids

Alan Davies -horrendous childhood

I never knew that.
Not that I like abuse but I'm intrigued by his story now as I like him

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 29/03/2025 22:04

Arron Carter, currently watching the documentary about him and is awful rapist brother. His mother effectively pimped him to a music exec aged 10 because Nick had cut the parents out of his Backstreet Boys money.
He eventually spoke up against Nick and was harassed for years by fans. He never stood a chance against his addictions.

All celebrities really that were pushed to be child stars for their parents' gain

Another young star abused by the Hollyweirdos

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 01/04/2025 08:49

Justine Bieber
Britney Spears
Aaron Carter
Chester Bennington
Chris Cornell
Aaliyah
Whitney Houston
Michael Jackson
Judy Garland
Corey HAIM
Corey Feldman and anyone who was abused by Hollyweird.

Duffy.
Absolutely horrific ordeal.

exiledfromcornwall · 01/04/2025 09:27

Prunella Scales. I don't know what has happened to her since Timothy West died, but she has Alzheimers and she has lost her rock, Timothy, who was clearly devoted to her.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/04/2025 09:57

@exiledfromcornwall this is a excerpt from an interview with her son, Timothy and Prunella's son, fellow actor Samuel West, has revealed how his mother is coping following Timothy's death. He told The Sunday Times: "All I am going to say is she's not really well enough to take it all in.".

Hopefully as horrendously cruel an illness as dementia is, it is sparing her from having to know and grieve for the full extent of her loss.

LushLemonTart · 01/04/2025 12:45

@MusicMakesItAllBetter Chester Bennington was apparently abused as a child. Too much of this causes suicide 😔

This is gonna sound daft but I genuinely feel sorry for Melania Trump.
I can't imagine she ever wanted to be the First Lady.

She deserves all she gets for marrying that creep.

taxguru · 01/04/2025 16:44

Surprised no one has mentioned Lena Zavaroni if we're talking about child stars. She didn't stand a chance! Far too much, too soon, and by the sounds of it, an obsessed father more interested in fame and fortune than her personal wellbeing.

I agree. Badly treated by her brother and her relatively new husband.

taxguru · 01/04/2025 16:45

I agree. Badly treated by her brother and her relatively new husband.

Not to mention her mother, classic Golden Child (brother) Vs Scapegoat Child (Karen) situation. She even made Karen marry her abusive husband because it would have been embarrassing if she didn’t and she had made her bed so had to lie in it.
