Would you trust this pregnancy test?

I'm sitting here half in shock, half in "nah, no way"

In the early hours of this morning, I was woken out of my sleep by severe lower stomach pain. Like period pain but much, much more intense. It didn't last any longer than about 15 mins and eventually faded away and I was able to get back to sleep.

In the morning I told DH about it (he was on night shift so wasn't there when it happened), and made a joke about how I actually wondered if I was having labour pains with a baby I knew nothing about, as the pain was that severe.

It was a joke, but for some reason has been playing on my mind. I don't know why, but I had a pregnancy test from a long time ago stashed in my bathroom drawer and took it. It did come up with a bold second line very quickly. However, here's the kicker:

  1. the last time we had sex was July last year (for various reasons)
  2. the pregnancy test has a "best before" date (for lack of a better word) dated 24th March this year.

I've been having periods every month. No signs of pregnancy at all. It's likely that the test is wrong because it's coming to the end of its shelf life, yes? I won't be able to get another one until the morning but it's extremely unlikely that I would be 8 months pregnant and not notice, isn't it? Isn't it???????

Use another one. Don't 100% trust this one.

Pleasecanyouadviseme · 21/03/2025 20:19

Can yous fford to book a scan?

GRCP · 21/03/2025 20:20

I’d probably go to urgent care rather than wait on another test. Any pain since?

If you have abdominal pain and a strong positive pregnancy test I’d be ringing 111. An unknown pregnancy is not unheard of.

Iknowaboutpopular · 21/03/2025 20:23

I mean...it's not totally beyond the realms of possibility, its happened before.

I'd probably be speaking to 111 with abdominal pains and a positive pregnancy test that's close to use by but not yet expired.

B1indEye · 21/03/2025 20:23

You do read about it quite often but I've always been sceptical about you wouldnt know.

TheThreeMiracles · 21/03/2025 20:24

Please please go and get checked xx

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 21/03/2025 20:24

I'd say it's not unknown to go through pregnancy and have no idea! Your test is still indate though so should be accurate I'd have thought..

SunintheFun · 21/03/2025 20:25

It’s pretty unlikely you’re pregnant but I would go and get another test..

Been84years · 21/03/2025 20:29

Oh shit, you're all scaring me now🙈

I haven't had any pain since that short episode early this morning, and none before it. I'd feel so silly ringing 111 and telling them all this 😅

I need to get a test tonight somehow, don't I? DH is at work. I'm going to have a look and see if I can maybe get a Whoosh order, not sure what time it stops at.

Been84years · 21/03/2025 20:37

OK, Whoosh is still delivering 🙏🙏 I have 4 tests on the way.

I'm fucking terrified.

Do you have any other signs? A bump? Feel a baby move? Someone I know only found out she was pregnant a 20something weeks and while she hadn’t realised, once she took the positive test she said that it was obvious, she hadn’t been looking at her weight gain etc through that lens.

LividSunshine · 21/03/2025 20:41

I can't see what would cause an HCG test to react other than HCG.

I conceived my child end of June and he was born end of March.

You need to go to urgent care. Urgently.

XMummyTo5X · 21/03/2025 20:43

i agree with what the others have said. you see alot of stories of women who didn't know they were pregnant until they had gone into labour 😆 goodluck! & post the pics of the positives! haha

LividSunshine · 21/03/2025 20:43

Do you have other children?

Are you big framed?

Can you post a pic of the first test?

PinkOtter · 21/03/2025 20:44

Eee good luck!

ChunkyMunck · 21/03/2025 20:45

I thought pregnancy tests stopped showing as positive after a certain point of pregnancy? (I might have that wrong though)

indecisivewoman81 · 21/03/2025 20:45

I don't think it's very common to get a false positive and more likely that the test wouldn't work at all as it was near its use by date

Puyyt · 21/03/2025 20:46

Can you post a photo of the test?

Puyyt · 21/03/2025 20:47

I peed on one at full term (funny story) and was positive.

TheThreeMiracles · 21/03/2025 20:52

How old are you op? Would you and hubby be happy if you are pregnant? Xx
