I have fucked up holiday

I booked a holiday in tunisa. I have never been abroad before as an adult. I did not know tunisa is not a safe place to go. I didn't even know you could look it up. I just thought that if its not safe that all flights to that area stop . But that's not the case . I tried changing it but they told me I can't because airline operator do not go to the area I want . Its with tunisa airlines so basically it only gos to tunisa? . So i can't go change to a different destination. But unless I pay a load of money I can't cancel either.

Just to add . I do have learning difficulties. Which is probably why I did not realise all of this . I'm so pissed of

I have already been to Tunisia on my own this year as a female and am ND. I had the most wonderful time and booking a return in Easter. At the pool and on the beach and at the spa I was in the smallest bikini - actually the spa was super super friendly to women and it was men who were frowned on. Around Hammamet I've done the party boats too - the sea is gorgeous - and wasn't covered up. For me, Tunisia feels a bit European. The people are wonderful and friendly and keen for more tourists; however natural preference away from hotels and taxi drivers, ports and tourist markets and the airports that women are accompanied or at the very least if you are comfortable alone wearing modest clothes - which I like because I dress boho anyway. Honestly, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. And if you do get ambitious, travelling to the Sahara and Starwars sites is unforgettable.

My STB-ExH recently announced he’d booked a holiday for his family and DS8 in this area of Tunisia.

Cant say I’m thrilled at the location but I’ve also decided to just trust that it’s green on the map….

My main worry, as others have said, was ensuring he had proper travel insurance for DS.

Dear god OP. Its just like any other resort. Just wear your normal swimsuit or bikini. Even out of the resort (I was a woman on my own) i wore shorts and a vest top and it was perfectly fine. You're absolutely overreacting

I don't think I'm overreacting in just replying to what's been said.

And that's good to hear. That's all I want really . I would wear a standard costume but it has like a skirt bit attached to cover my fat butt.. a very tiny bit of cleavage may show . Shorts abd vest tops and normal tops . I don't read ti wear things that are to low cut . So I guess it will be ok anyway

OP, have you called Love Holidays and told them everything you have said here? If not it's worth a try to see if they will let you change destination x

Hwi · 21/03/2025 18:24

Went to Tunisia last year for work. It was fine, but admittedly I saw nothing but the hotel and its surroundings, never ventured far, had no time.

KnickerFolder · 21/03/2025 18:40

@Youagain2025 with kindness, I think you are just panicking and feeling overwhelmed.

It is safe.

It is beautiful.

You are going to have an amazing time. You and your kids deserve this holiday after the tough time you have been through.

You don’t need anything special to wear on the beach, by the pool or in the resort. Just pack a cardigan or shirt and a pair of trousers/leggings or a long skirt in case you want to go sightseeing.

Youagain2025 · 21/03/2025 18:41

kasho5 · 21/03/2025 17:48

It says in your screenshot that you would get about £500 back of the £1,200 you've paid btw. You won't owe them.

I have not paid 1200 yet I have paid 300 and something and it says i would have to pay more on top to cancell

OP please don’t worry. If you are in a resort you will be fine! For wandering about away from your lounger, get a sarong/ pool cover up type thing - you will probably feel more comfortable anyway rather than walking about in your swimwear. I know I always do.

i have travelled fairly extensively - in the Middle East and across countries where the majority of people are muslim. Wear things which are long enough to cover your knees and your shoulders and you will be absolutely fine. As a pp said, if you visit a mosque (or if you just don’t want to draw attention to yourself in a public space and want to fit in with the local culture) pop a light scarf in your bag and cover your hair with it.

Enjoy your holiday and stay safe in the sun!

Why didn't you check the link in the very first reply to your thread 3 days ago? There us literally a map that tells you where is safe and where isn't in Tunisia.

Why did you start yet another thread?

It's all becoming very exasperating.

I tried do a location change request. I showed them where I wanted to go instead which was Spain. But they said the airline i choose does not fly there. I can only choose one of the places that tunisa airlines gos to . When I asked them what countries tunisa airline go to they replied with we can't recommend any places to you. Which is not what I asked. Ds looked for me and read them out I can't remember what they are now. I will look again in a min. But nothing stuck out

You'll be OK, @Youagain2025 . I wore shorts (not skimpy) and short-sleeved t-shirts, and bikini or swimsuit by the pool.
I didn't wear anything flashy.

When you arrive at the airport and get the coach to the hotel, it won't be like Gatwick.
The food in the hotel might be a bit 'school dinner' but I really liked it.

The weather will probably be hot. Take sun tan lotion not a spray, and apply it liberally.
if you go shopping bargain hard. Pottery, leather slippers and leather poufs are typical tourist purchases.
Do not use the safe in the hotel room.

Please is min fadlik, and thank you is shukran.Smile

Did you not read the TA reviews before booking? Putting aside issues of dress etc, you may have other issues...

I forgot I made it . Probably because I feel a bit worried. And I didn't really know the meaning of the map. As I said I don't know if the danger zone is say any hour away of 12 hours away . And I wouldn't have known about the clothing thing had not made thus thread. Also this thread was because I was pissed of with myself and I thiightvthere I was going to loose /owe alot of money.

I'm sorry that my threads piss you off.

I don’t think this is terribly helpful for the OP considering she is already having a wobble and can’t cancel without losing a lot of money.

She has said that she looked for the cheapest deal she could find for a sun holiday abroad. She can hardly afford somewhere with solid 5 star reviews. An average of 3 stars maybe all she needs and not everyone has 5 star standards anyway.

AnneElliott · 21/03/2025 19:04

I’ve been to Tunisia before and was looking at it for this year. It’s only the border areas that are no go areas - the coastline is considered safe.

its fine to wear normal summer clothes in the resort. If you go out you will want to cover up as otherwise you might get unwanted male attention.

"Shukran" is a way to say "Thank you" while on holiday in Tunisia.

Fishfingersandcustard1 · 21/03/2025 19:08

I went to Tunisia with 2 young children last year and we had a lovely time. I didn’t feel unsafe once.
We went out of the resort, and didn’t get hassled once.
People were wearing normal summer clothing that you’d wear in the uk on resort, and at the beach.
Try not to overthink it, I’m sure you will have a lovely time.

just to make you aware you can’t buy Tunisian money before you go so take money to convert when you arrive, you can do this at the airport in Tunisia or the hotels :)

The no go areas are at least 3-4 hours away by car OP. You don’t need to worry.

You also need to do the exchange tp pounds on remaining money. It's not allowed to take tunisian currency out

The link just keep jumping onto hotels asking if I want to book . So I'm not sure what I'm looking at.
