Inspired by another unusual baby name thread.
I remember as a young child hating my boring normal name and wanting to change it.
So glad I kept my name instead of becoming 'crystal star twinkle' that my 6 year old self insisted I wanted to be called.

And in the 'nonsense' context of the OP I really wanted to be called Henrietta Tissue as I thought it flowed well!

Dfg15 · 20/03/2025 17:31

I wanted to be Stephanie or Roberta, so I could be called Stevie or Bobbie. Ive never really liked my name, doesn't seem 'me'.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 20/03/2025 17:31

Ashley/ Ashleigh. I still do actually!

DS doesn’t have a middle name and when he was in reception he decided he would like his middle names to be Millicent Helicopter 😂.

pinkgown · 20/03/2025 17:32

I always liked my name, but if I hadn't I would have chosen Sylvia - I can't remember why. Like a PP my best doll got the name 🙂

Enko · 20/03/2025 17:35

Silvia. As I thought queen Silvia of Sweeden was so glamorous amazing and had the most wonderful name.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2025 17:36

I wanted to be Elizabeth.

Thank fuck I didn't change my name. Elizabeth is even worse than my own name! It's bloody terrible.

Redheadedstepchild · 20/03/2025 17:36

Naomi, like Naomi Campbell. I also wanted to look like her. My own colouring differs slightly from Ms Campbell's as my user name suggests.

Myoldbear · 20/03/2025 17:36

Haha pinkgown, that PP was me, and my Mum's name was Sylvia!

Ruthietuthie · 20/03/2025 17:38

OK, please don't laugh.
Ophelia Trinity. To the extent that I went round signing this as my name in guest books whenever I could.
Yep. Pretentious as a ten year old (and with absolutely no reason to be).

OhMaria2 · 20/03/2025 17:40

Tiffany, I thought it was such a cool girl name!

Coconuthotchocolate · 20/03/2025 17:41

Suzanne.

readingismycardio · 20/03/2025 17:42

Evelyn. Fun fact is that many many years later, in uni, I met my best friend. Her name is Evelyn and we’re still friends today!

Myoldbear · 20/03/2025 17:43

Oh Ruthietuthie Ophelia Trinity is a wonderful name!
You didn't consider it as your user name for here?

merryhouse · 20/03/2025 17:43

When I was little, I don't think it occurred to me.

At about 12 I was a bit miffed to discover that my middle name was what I might have been called - except that my parents decided it would be a bit much to have TWO daughters named the same as their friends' daughters... (so they gave me my cousin-in-Australia's name instead)

Both my names, and that of the sister involved, were absolutely standard for girls of my age.

At 14 I had literary pretensions and thought up some pen-names. My novels would be published under Leonie Green (I loved These Old Shades) and my srs bsns philosophical/religious writings Petra Scathings (no idea where that came from).

Nnebgraduate · 20/03/2025 17:44

Janet. Absolutely no idea why. Think I was about 8.
Then Roberta.

24Dogcuddler · 20/03/2025 17:44

Janet
Not sure why? Maybe a reading book character.
Always hated my name. Settled with the shortened version since secondary school. Don’t actually like the name Janet now either.

St Clare's fan?

Aussiegold · 20/03/2025 17:46

Met an Emma when I was 11, I thought she was everything I wanted to be and in my head would refer myself as Emma.

I'm now 60 and would still change it if I was brave enough!

Me too, Aussie!

Pigeon66 · 20/03/2025 17:47

I was DESPERATE to be called Shazza :) (My parents gave me a lovely name)

reesewithoutaspoon · 20/03/2025 17:47

@Ruthietuthie Ophelia Trinity is wonderful. I can imagine you in a beret and a long cream wool coat, wafting into rooms saying "marvellous dahling" a lot

No, I’ve never read them. I read horsey books so maybe it was in one of those. Or someone older/ younger at school.

Clariceamelia · 20/03/2025 17:50

Josephine, and even better, Josie.....
