What year did you have your first mobile phone?

I think I had my first ever mobile phone (The Brick) in 1998 when I was 32. Checking through photos, I think it was a Siemens S6 and me and my partner got one each (our phone numbers were 1 digit apart) because I was pregnant and he worked away a lot.

I loved that phone. It was pretty sleek feeling.

When did you get your first mobile and how old were you?

Just been speaking to my DH about this thread (and how nostalgic it's made me feel for the year 2000-ish) and asked him 'what was our first mobile phone in the year 2000???...' And it wasn't the one I posted further back. THAT one was one we had around mid noughties. Not the first one in the year 2000.

The first one (in 2000) was actually a Motorolla one. THIS one on this pic. We both had one. £50 each, (like £120-£140 in 2025 money) and absolutely no frills. £10 for about 30 texts and 10 phone calls, and only 150 characters per text! And about 5 little games on it tool! No camera and no internet! And no apps! Awwwwwwww I miss those days now. It seemed like a simpler time. Smile

August 1999, just before I started secondary school as it was a 45 minute journey and mum wanted to me to let her know when I was on the bus.

I'm pretty sure it was this one. It definitely had an arial and was a Vodafone branded one.

July 1999 for me a graduation present from my parents! My daughter regretted asking if she could have a mobile when I did when I told her I was 21 🤣. I loved that phone!

This is the exact one I had as my first phone - also in 2000. A year later upgraded to the classic Nokia 3310.

Summer 2000 for my 11th birthday before starting secondary school. It was a Nokia 3210. My sister started school two years later and we both got Nokia 3310s then and our numbers were the same except for the last two digits, we both still have the same numbers.

My parents drove all over the UK and mainland Europe for work so they had both had mobiles for a long time already, the first ones I remember them having were Motorola 9500XL, the brickiest brick ever, I mainly remember the orange button on the handset. They also both still have the same numbers they had back then, except they changed from 08xx to 078xx at some point, they are one digit different at the end.

2004, I was 37, it was a Nokia 3310

1998 Motorola pictured up thread, some bank (HSBC?) were giving them away with student bank accounts - or you could have £50 cash 🤣 It cost so much to use my parents would ring it once a week and have a 3 min conversation. I don't think it ever left my room, imagine that now!
