Would you watch a film of your death?

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 07/03/2025 21:05

Okay here is the situation

You have a film of your death

It shows how old you are when you die

How you die

It's basically the last two minutes of your life

You are unable to change the outcome of the film - it is set in stone

You can either choose to watch it or not watch it

Would you watch it or would you not want to know?

Probably but I hate surprises. Do you have that video?!

However it's an inherently flawed concept as if you died of lung cancer I'd imagine you'd give up smoking. If you died in a car crash in Spain you'd go on holiday to Italy etc etc

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 07/03/2025 21:09

Definitely not

Mach3 · 07/03/2025 21:10

God no!

Retrospeaker · 07/03/2025 21:10

Nope

Jabtastic · 07/03/2025 21:11

I don't think so it will not be pretty most likely.

RaininSummer · 07/03/2025 21:11

As I am probably in the last 20 years (max) of my life, I think I would like to know but it would be hard to deal with if it shows something traumatic or very drawn out. Handy to know for planning and deciding if I should retire early.

Soitis83 · 07/03/2025 21:11

No because I would spend the rest of my life thinking about it and in fear. Death doesn't scare me but dying does so absolutely not

BrownPapery · 07/03/2025 21:11

Definitely yes.

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 07/03/2025 21:14

The death can not be changed, (else it would not work)

My theory is, it's a bit of a gamble

If I watched it and I could see I died in 5 years I would be sad

But I would do all the things I wanted to do in those 5 years

There are lots of things I want to do but don't because I don't want to get into debt

I assume there will be a tomorrow

But if it showed me dying at 90 then I would know to save for my old age more and not go on crazy holidays now that means I have to spend my whole life paying debt off and being miserable

No because I would spend the rest of my life thinking about it and in fear. Death doesn't scare me but dying does so absolutely not

But would you?

You would know how long you had left

So you would not be living in fear

But you would know if you were down to your last year for instance

It assumes you survive your death to watch it, or that your death is pre-ordained. Neither of which I think is likely so you are not going to watch it.

LunaNorth · 07/03/2025 21:17

Fuck that.

evtheria · 07/03/2025 21:18

No, and I usually like to know things/plan ahead.

Foxgloverr · 07/03/2025 21:18

Yes. I would want to know. I have struggled with health anxiety and if I knew with certainty exactly when I would die I feel like I would be able to actually live again without the threat of imminent death hanging over me.

Also if I'm going to die soon I won't bother paying into my pension and will eat all the chocolate cake 😊

Sorrynotsorry2 · 07/03/2025 21:19

I would

Soitis83 · 07/03/2025 21:20

But it would consume me. At least with not knowing I can put it to the back of my mind. But if I knew when, where and how, I would just be waiting for it.

frogsoutofthebag · 07/03/2025 21:21

Unless you die of a natural causes surely you would be able to prevent it by knowing it was going to happen?
Drown in the sea then don't go in the sea
Die in a car crash then don't get in a car
Murdered in Tesco then never go in Tesco
Choke on a steak then don't eat steak

bifurCAT · 07/03/2025 21:21

Yes. I presume without watching, I wouldn't know where and when?

To know exactly how long I have would give my life meaning and allow me to prepare.

Pieandchips999 · 07/03/2025 21:23

No I wouldn't. Having been through lots of situations where I really couldn't cope without knowing the outcome, including health situations, I've realised I didn't need to know at all. Some of them had bad outcomes but led to a life now where I'm happy more often than not. I wouldn't even debate watching it.

You get to watch your death

Basically you are seeing the future

How it works?

Magic, aliens, religious cult take your pick 👀

Well, it’d be very handy to know for pension planning and other financial stuff! Could blow the lot on a cruise if you knew how old you were going to get.

Maybe this is why so many old people blow all there money on cruises ⛴️

If I knew such a thing existed, I’d have to watch it.

But I’d hope to avoid it if at all possible, so if it said I’d died in a foreign country, I’d not go there. However I could be on a flight elsewhere and it had to land where I died, so I’m dead!

Yes, death comes to us all, whether we want it or not, so a heads up could be useful.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/03/2025 21:26

Christ, no. That's utterly screwed up.
