Would you watch a film of your death?

Okay here is the situation

You have a film of your death

It shows how old you are when you die

How you die

It's basically the last two minutes of your life

You are unable to change the outcome of the film - it is set in stone

You can either choose to watch it or not watch it

Would you watch it or would you not want to know?

This is such a distasteful thread, and I've reported it. Of course, it's Friday night.

OP and others, have some bloody respect.

Oh, don’t be silly. It’s just a thought experiment. It’s not ‘distasteful’ just because it involves death.

LovingHare · 07/03/2025 21:54

yes

What?! There's nothing wrong with the thread and it's clear from the title what it's about, so anyone triggered by talk of death can easily scroll on by.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2025 21:55

Fuck no!

BobnLen · 07/03/2025 21:58

The thread is fine

I have written this in as much as possible a light-hearted sense

The death of a loved one especially unexpected or young can be a terrible time for everyone involved

Yes.
I am the woman who flips to the last page of the book.

NuffSaidSam · 07/03/2025 22:14

I definitely would!

It'd free you up to do so much crazy stuff!

You can smoke and drink, take part in extreme sports, climb everest, get into cars with strangers...

Donotpanicoknowpanic · 07/03/2025 22:14

I don't think I would

The biggest mystery of my life would be gone

I would rather always imagine how my death would come - old and surrounded by my family

Sometimes to much information is a bad thing

The last two minutes of my grandmas’s life were peaceful and surrounded by love at the age of 95. If my death was the same, then yes.

My cousin died in a horrific car crash at 18.

My friend of suicide.

On balance, no. I wouldn’t.

Deadringer · 07/03/2025 22:22

Yes I would want to see it. Would be good to know how many years I have left.

MaryGreenhill · 07/03/2025 22:24

No, it's best not to know.

Jabtastic · 08/03/2025 13:09

It's definitely an interesting thought experiment! It would be useful for financial planning.

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/03/2025 13:15

I would. But then I'm one of those people who goes out in her nighty to investigate strange noises in the dark.😆

ouipamplemousse · 08/03/2025 13:15

I was going to say no, but you’ve persuaded me. Yes I would watch it.

Having said that, I’d much rather know when, but not how.

LettersOfTheAlphabet · 08/03/2025 13:23

I discussed something similar with my late DF, although our scenario was a book of your life - would you flick to the final chapter/page? I was like, 💯 yes! DF said he wouldn't, which really surprised me, but he explained that knowing would spoil your final days/weeks/months with the knowledge of what's to come. I didn't fully appreciate it back then as a young adult, but I get it now. So, in my early 20s when I felt invincible I definitely would. Middle-aged me? No thanks. Some things really are best to be in blissful ignorance about.

TwirlyPineapple · 08/03/2025 19:27

No, I wouldn't.

If there was some way to just find out when and how I'd die in writing or someone telling me, I would absolutely want to know. But actually watching it happen is a horrific idea. Not so bad if you die peacefully in your sleep or something (although still very upsetting seeing other people suffer if your family are by your bedside). But there are plenty of ways to die that I wouldn't want to see the two minutes leading up to it.

Bobbybobbins · 08/03/2025 19:29

Definitely not

Time40 · 08/03/2025 19:49

That would mean that the entire future, for everyone, is pre-determined - which is an incredibly depressing thought.

DinoLil · 08/03/2025 19:50

Nah.

I like a surprise.

IMissSparkling · 08/03/2025 19:58

Absolutely not. I sometimes idly wonder what date my "deathday" will be and how weird it is to be living through that day every year without any idea of its future significance. But I definitely would never want to know how I'll die, how old I'll be etc.

Oceansriseempiresfall · 08/03/2025 20:18

I wouldn't. I'd be fine with it if I watched and I was very old and died of some sort of natural causes. I don't think I could be ok with knowing I was going to die (relatively) young or in an accident or violent way.

madaffodil · 08/03/2025 20:24

I'd get someone else to watch it for me. 😂

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 08/03/2025 20:31

This isn't getting the kids bathed.
