Would you watch a film of your death?

Okay here is the situation

You have a film of your death

It shows how old you are when you die

How you die

It's basically the last two minutes of your life

You are unable to change the outcome of the film - it is set in stone

You can either choose to watch it or not watch it

Would you watch it or would you not want to know?

I would

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/03/2025 21:26

Christ, no. That's utterly screwed up.

In case you are wondering I have clothes to hang up and others to put away

As well as washing up to do

I am literally just thinking of ways of getting out of doing jobs at home 🏡

Why?

Noperope · 07/03/2025 21:27

Absolutely fucking not! I actually had quite a visceral reaction to your thread title. The thought actually terrifies me.

ColourBlueColourPurple · 07/03/2025 21:28

Absolutely not.

Mum2jenny · 07/03/2025 21:31

I just don’t / can’t understand ppl who wouldn’t want the insight into their deaths. Surely that would be a comfort to them.

FrannyScraps · 07/03/2025 21:32

Can you imagine if it's a traumatic death, like a plane crash or murder whilst walking alone. You'd be utterly terrified in those leading days and hours.

Leaving the house knowing you're about to die doesn't seem worth the knowledge.

JoyousEagle · 07/03/2025 21:33

Yes, absolutely. Wouldn't hesitate.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 07/03/2025 21:33

I'd want to know but I wouldn't want to see.

I'd like to know if I'll live long enough for my youngest to be okay really, that's it.

WrylyAmused · 07/03/2025 21:33

Can I get someone else to watch it for me first & tell me the bits I want to hear?

I want to know how old I am/when I'm going to die but I don't want to know how unless it's super quick and painless!!

BobnLen · 07/03/2025 21:36

I would be a bit upset though if I was about 100

It would be comforting to see you died in your sleep or in hospital in old age.

It wouldn't be comforting to see you are murdered in 3 weeks time, you die along with your children in house fire in a couple of years, or after suffering from an extremely painful and long illness

Chuchoter · 07/03/2025 21:40

It would be a bit rotten if as you were watching the film it showed you dying whilst watching the video of yourself dying.

enpeatea · 07/03/2025 21:41

How exactly is this supposed to happen? Time travel??

Could be a horrible death

Could be peacefully dying in your own bed surrounded by your loved ones at an old age

Watching the video would be a gamble

Mum2jenny · 07/03/2025 21:27

Why?

I don't know where to start.

Never mind any poor sod who's just watched their loved one die an awful death which is imprinted on their brain forever.

Yes, that includes myself as I watched the life drain from my 29 year old sister.

JoyousEagle · 07/03/2025 21:43

enpeatea · 07/03/2025 21:41

OP isn't suggesting that it's plausible. It's a hypothetical question where you just have to accept the premise.

Faz469 · 07/03/2025 21:43

Nope. I watched my sister die 2 months ago at the age of 42. I don't want to see myself die, too.

My kids come first. I'd most likely go into a deep depression watching something like that, and they would suffer.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/03/2025 21:45

Yes, but only if I could watch it on 'catch up ' at a later date in the comfort of my own home.

Now that is fucked up. Make a great short story or film though. Black mirror?

Pasithean · 07/03/2025 21:46

I have a very rare incurable illness it’s hereditary, so I have seen other family members die of it and have nearly died myself soooooo
na bit boring.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/03/2025 21:48

This is such a distasteful thread, and I've reported it. Of course, it's Friday night.

OP and others, have some bloody respect.

ItGhoul · 07/03/2025 21:51

Randomuser9876 · 07/03/2025 21:09

Probably but I hate surprises. Do you have that video?!

However it's an inherently flawed concept as if you died of lung cancer I'd imagine you'd give up smoking. If you died in a car crash in Spain you'd go on holiday to Italy etc etc

The OP says you can’t change the outcome of the film, so giving up smoking or avoiding Spain isn’t going to help you. You’re going to die as predicted, regardless.

In fact, you might as well just spend the rest of your life taking crazy risks and running up massive debts by enjoying yourself before you go.

Mum2jenny · 07/03/2025 21:52

I’d still be ok watching my death.
ive sat beside my dmum dying and have sat by my df dying, and been at the bedside of my dh who had. 5% chance of survival, and I am still a functioning adult.
So I think I can handle most things, including my own death.

offmynut · 07/03/2025 21:53

yes without a doubt family film time.
Not scared of death.
