So tricky to limit to 3 of each but it has really surprised me that so many of you list Dill as one of your most used. I don't really like it but it's rare that the recipes I use call for it. What do you use it so regularly with?

Herbs: thyme, basil, bay leaves (fresh)
Spices: cumin, paprika and tumeric

I love dill and use it in lots of things -garlicky white bean soups, tomato dishes, fish dishes, things with feta and spinach, the list goes on

It's a sour taste, so I put it in things like hummus or with lamb/chicken rather than just lemon.

We eat shakshuka a lot so there is a teaspoonful in there.

I love woody herbs. Thyme, rosemary, bay, oregano.

Bay is a woody herb btw!

Ah yes you are right about bay. It’s more savoury than the others although I still find it too pungent to leave in stuff for long.

Don’t think I’ve ever used dill. Weird cos I like aniseed tastes.

Lovesabadboy · 05/03/2025 23:28

Fresh rosemary (have a mahoosive bush in the garden!)
Fresh bay leaves (have a bay tree outside the back door)
Fresh basil (always have some growing in the kitchen window sill)

Smoked paprika
Chipotle chilli flakes
Cumin

DH uses fresh coriander in/on/with absolutely everything and anything, it is always in the fridge!!

faithspikebuffy · 05/03/2025 23:29

Oregano
Thyme
Bay leaves
Cumin
Turmeric
Cinnamon

But I couldn't cope without flaky sea salt, black pepper, white pepper, garlic and onions!

Crinkle77 · 05/03/2025 23:31

Mixed herbs
Oregano
Bay leaves
Chilli
Ginger

TheFormidableMrsC · 05/03/2025 23:31

If you like prawns, try them cold in a lemon and dill mayo, on baguette slathered with butter. Heaven. Works equally well with cold poached salmon. Think Scandinavian style flavours.
