what one-off extravagant purchases do you have ? *not a gloating thread*

A friend of a friend lives in Greece and has recently brought themselves an underwater sea scooter. A top of the range one. They are not well off by any means, but could afford to treat themselves to this. It looks a real smart piece of kit.

It got me thinking, we don't have any one-off extravagant purchases. Not that you have to have any, of course. There has just never been anything we have really wanted, with the exception of a new car. But this thread is not about buying to that level.

*edited to add this is a no judgement thread

During lockdown I bought myself an oil painting by a well known artist - I fell in love with it, and it made lockdown so much more bearable. I WFH and sit opposite it, looking up from my computer every so often to admire it.
Nobody knows how much I paid for it - It was more than a month's salary. And it was so worth it.

Gucci sunglasses, £350 and a £260 Smeg coffee machine. Everything else is Primarni

envbeckyc · 06/03/2025 17:54

Gaggia bean to cup coffee maker! Cost £800 but I use it every day for great coffee in about a minute!

No regrets but it was quite the splurge!

Hot tub. Proper one, not inflatable. Regret it, could’ve spent that money on something better.

LOL. Hindsight, eh? I’ve always thought of them as big vats, of sweaty human soup. Funnily enough someone told me Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory has the same opinion 🤣

inappropriateraspberry · 06/03/2025 18:00

A Cricut. Not a necessity, but I like it!

Horse 😂

I match you and raise you (had 6 accidentally at one point).

I have a Dyson hairdryer and have just bought a Dyson airwrap. Our amazing coffee machine bought during lockdoen just broke so I'm seeing another big spend coming up as I'm not enjoying instant coffee at all.

YDBear · 06/03/2025 18:12

Spent £60k (I was earning about 40k/year at the time) on carpentry (bookshelves, kitchen units, wardrobes, display cabinets) in my small London flat. Made the flat look amazing though and I’ve never regretted it.
House I lived in before that we spent 10k on wooden window shutters. Like the look of them but not light-tight enough in the bedroom for our tastes.

My boobs 🤣

lindyloo57 · 06/03/2025 18:17

Laser eye surgery so I could chuck my contact lenses away, except now I'm older, i need reading glasses.

Davros · 06/03/2025 18:19

Thank god I don't like coffee, it's saved me a fortune 😹 but I do love my Sage Teamaker

We have a campervan I mean its a very old second hand one and we can't drive it a lot of places now due to LEZ but it's still a luxury. We use it a lot from Easter til October on camping trips with the kids.

Me too, mine is 21yrs and called Sarge he's a beautiful brute , and yes those LEZ make it more difficult , im scotland too 😀

kennycat · 06/03/2025 18:25

I bought a new vac before the old one broke if that counts?!

Same. Wish it had been on house renovation instead now. Pandemic treat tho so it was nice for the kids at the time.

A Canada Goose full length down coat, £1100, I absolutely love it! Reckon it will last a good 10 years according to reviews.

ColdWaterDipper · 06/03/2025 18:34

Not really one-off, but: horses; various sports equipment (one board was 2.5k for example), and ski holidays / travel. I also always go 1st class if I have to travel on the train - once you start you can’t stop, and I only ever do long distance train travel for work, so I pay the difference to upgrade to first class.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 06/03/2025 18:34

1000 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen. I literally don’t want to get out of bed 😂 A Birkin. It was a gift from exH. I use it every day and absolutely love it!

jotex · 06/03/2025 18:39

A new car, literally last week. My last one was only two years old and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it; I just loved the look of the new one. Don’t regret it!

Pliudev · 06/03/2025 18:39

A ShihTzu puppy. Before anyone says I should have gone to a rescue centre, I tried but only large dogs were available. She's hard work but adorable. Bottom of the class at puppy training classes and has ruined the living room carpetbut no regrets.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 06/03/2025 18:43

Hyperbaric oxygen chamber! Was using one at a facility and travel etc was hard work plus this works out better after several years of use already. Love it. Good for my health issues and great for the family and any injuries

JoBrandsCleaner · 06/03/2025 18:56

I’d always liked Fiona Bruce’s star necklace years ago when she was reading the news. I was trying to find one similar for ages, anyway I found out a couple of years ago that it was Chanel, costing £6,000, my husband just bought it for me, I think I must of mentioned it a few times over the years 🙂

Redrunnynose · 06/03/2025 18:56

A two week cruise around the Caribbean, cost 6k. I enjoyed it, but now it's over, I think about the home improvements I could have made with 6k 🤔

Kitfish · 06/03/2025 18:58

Solid gold Cartier watch.

Nextdoor55 · 06/03/2025 18:59

I regularly spend £100 on these beautiful lampshades, feels really extravagant but I love looking at them. One in every room now
