Non US owned chocolate - for Easter Eggs

I’d like to support UK, European, Mexican or Canadian industry, not US, when buying my Easter eggs this year.

I’m thinking either Chococo or Tony’s Chocolonely but any other ideas welcomed. If it’s relevant I’m buying for 9 & 11 year olds, plus a clutch of young adults 18-24.

I think Hotel Chocolat is British owned.

Millymoonshine · 04/03/2025 15:20

An independent chocolate shop will make Easter eggs.
Have a look locally.

Montezuma are good

Gra chocolates based in Ireland, small business doing luxury chocolate eggs, believe they deliver worldwide

SnoozingFox · 04/03/2025 15:23

Thornton is owned by Ferrero who are Italian and make Kinder and fererro rocher. Or Lindt.

Cool ta. Hotel Chocolat now US parent company.

I won’t use M & S at all as they advertise on GB News.

Crosscheck those brands with UK-made.

Thanks for this. Sadly Divine aren’t making Easter eggs this year which is apparently going to have a massive impact on buying Fairtrade as not enough has been made.

Also important to check not just where manufactured but who the parent company are owned by. Eg Hotel Chocolat now owned by Mars, which is US.

Lidl own brand, product of eu and tastes better than Cadbury etc

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 04/03/2025 15:33

Gnaw chocolate of Norwich is delicious. Some amazing flavours, and a good selection of easter eggs.

This is an independent south london chocolate shop that we've gotten eggs from the last few years (split one between us as they're not cheap!) but very tasty

Blowing Dandelion

Artisan chocolates lovingly crafted in the heart of Crystal Palace. Chocolate boxes, cakes, gifts and more all made in our South London shop.

@RestitutionGranted thanks for posting that back about Divine! I had noticed they stopped doing milk chocolate eggs a couple of years ago as I could only find dark eggs in Tesco and local health food shops but I had assumed that was not having lots of shops to choose from in my local area.

Can anyone recommend fair-trade and preferably plastic free eggs both milk and dark? I believe Tonys are a weird shape too. Do Green & Blacks still do them?

Green and black are owned by Cadburys.

Blowing Dandelion chocolates are exquisite and very good.

Costly though

I occasionally pop into their shop for their equally fantastic ice cream (especially the pistachio) and a coffee.

RestitutionGranted · 06/03/2025 19:26

Yes, not Green and Blacks any more. Not sure about plastic free but I’ve gone with Chococo.

The other front runner apart from our local chocolate shop (who are plastic free) was Montezumas.

Chocolarder - produced right here in Cornwall and exceedingly delicious 😋.

Unfortunately also exceedingly expensive but if you have the budget I can hardily recommend 👌.

Easter Products

Easter eggs and products by Chocolarder all made from bean to egg in Falmouth, Cornwall and packaged plastic free.

I had a chococo egg last year and it was lovely. I have looked at, although never bought, Cocoba before. They are UK made too.

unsync · 06/03/2025 20:03

Lidl's chocolate is manufactured in Germany from cocoa grown in Africa. They have a fully documented supply chain. Some of it does not contain palm oil either, but you will need to check the label.

Monty Bojangles? They’re London based family company. I’ve seen their Easter eggs at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.
