Non US owned chocolate - for Easter Eggs

RestitutionGranted · 04/03/2025 15:13

I’d like to support UK, European, Mexican or Canadian industry, not US, when buying my Easter eggs this year.

I’m thinking either Chococo or Tony’s Chocolonely but any other ideas welcomed. If it’s relevant I’m buying for 9 & 11 year olds, plus a clutch of young adults 18-24.

Goupie are based in Kent and make fabulous vegan chocolate, I will try and link to Jen the Hen which is one of their Easter offerings. Lovely people to deal with too. https://goupiechocolate.com/products/jen-the-hen-vegan-easter-egg

Jen the Hen

Is your boycott politics related?

I was looking up all the businesses I use today to see I if they were American owned, and if so, Trump supporters. I came across a Reddit thread that was discussing how some American orgs are actively against the Trump administration and so possibly should be supported.

Of course, you may have other reasons, but it's good for thought.

Slattery are delicious - based near Manchester and available to order online!

If you go to farm shops or garden centres, usually they'll have a nice selection of Easter eggs which are UK companies and some lovely designs.

Yes, and I’m not fine tuning it to that extent tbh, more concerned about the whole country’s industry taking a hit as money is all that seems to matter now.

I could fine tune it for M & S as well if I wanted by saying I wanted to support local shop managers as they have nothing to do with their marketing dept’s decision to fund hate, but I’m also not going down that route.

Money talks, sadly. It doesn’t make fine distinctions.

Monty Bojangles? They’re London based family company. I’ve seen their Easter eggs at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.

Also agreed MB are great

M and s advertise on GBNews!! Oh the horror definitely don't their chocolate now 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 07/03/2025 07:55

Gorvett and Stone in Henley make beautiful chocolates- they are a small independent but do sell online.

TheDogsMother · 07/03/2025 07:56

I believe Mars now owns Hotel Chocolat. Montezumas is made in Chichester and the original founders are now running it again.

Hadalifeonce · 04/03/2025 15:18

I think Hotel Chocolat is British owned.

It was! Hotel Chocolat was acquired by US confectionery Mars for £534m ($679m) in January 2024.

This site has UK owned chocolatiers

ChocAmor in Lancashire are superb and their customer service is excellent. If ordering I recommend you try the orange jalfrezi (not an egg) which is out of this world.

Thanks for this. DH is doing a Lidl shop today.

notinscotland · 07/03/2025 08:12

For cheap and casual, there are always Ritter Sport "squeggs". They're still German, and still under the original family ownership. And still delicious.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 07/03/2025 08:13

Charbonnel & Walker in London is owned by the Canadian Weston family.

Prestat in Princes Arcade Piccadilly London are owned by Domori, who come from Turin. Domori operate in several countries but afaik not in the USA, and they are mainly Europe -based.

ThePartingOfTheWays · 07/03/2025 08:15

Def going to check out Lidl!

BobnLen · 07/03/2025 08:20

Waitrose generally have eggs that are from independent companies. Betty's (the cafe) have some Easter eggs you can order online

BobnLen · 07/03/2025 08:24

You would probably do best to support your local independent chocolate shop
