Could you pass a Life in the UK test

I have just wasted spent far too long doing life in the UK mock tests online for a bit of fun. However, I have failed every single one 😁

Can you pass any of the mock tests or am I just really stupid when it comes to the UK.

No, I failed the practices when I was supporting my ex to take it. However it's really not a test of how much you know about the UK, it's a test of your English comprehension.

UninterestingFirstPost · 03/03/2025 20:38

Just tried the first and passed it. For some of them it’s easier to exclude the wrong answers than to know the right one

Hayley1256 · 03/03/2025 20:40

I passed the first one but failed the second!

MiddleAgedDread · 03/03/2025 20:43

I’ve done 2 and got 15 and 16 so failed both! Also had
2 questions which say “in the UK” but the answer doesn’t apply in Scotland so that’s not confusing!! I did miserably on anything involving historical dates and some were an educated guess.

AngeloMysterioso · 03/03/2025 20:43

I just got 71% and failed
At uni 71% was a first!

confusedlots · 03/03/2025 20:46

I just did one and failed! 16 out of 24!

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 03/03/2025 20:46

I passed the first one.

StarryArbat · 03/03/2025 20:48

I was taking a module at uni on immigration and citizenship soon after the whole life in the UK test was launched and our lecturer had everyone in the lecture take a mock test. About 90% failed it! Going to have a look now and see if i can do any better...

echt · 03/03/2025 20:52

Well I passed, though it's hard to see how many of the questions were about life Britain, particularly the dates.

I agree that eliminating the obviously wrong often brings you nearer the correct answer than actually knowing it.

ChompandaGrazia · 03/03/2025 20:52

I passed. 81% I think it was.

StarryArbat · 03/03/2025 20:52

I passed the first one! Did pretty poorly on historical dates though.

follygirl · 03/03/2025 20:53

I had to do this test to get citizenship. I'm Dutch but have lived here since 1977, went to school and Uni so am fairly well educated and have lived here a long time.
Honestly it was quite a lot of work. I had to remember so many dates: Magna Carta, all the saints' days etc.

Some of the questions were also really patronising:

To be a good citizen should you:
A: sell drugs
B: kill people
C: be a good member of the community
D: blow up buildings

Not exactly that but you get the idea. Thankfully I did pass first time.

ItsChristmasEEEVEJeff · 03/03/2025 20:58

Yep historical dates for me were difficult too.

Agree that some questions could be answered through elimination though. And just hazarding an educated guess.

I am 34 but I can’t imagine younger generation knowing a lot of these answers. But maybe I am being unfair there.

I passed (the real thing), and now I'm a UK citizen! My most distinct memory was lots of info on the 1966 World Cup... like, if you're going to live here, you must know that we won the World Cup one time 60 years ago!

lampshadelampshade · 03/03/2025 21:00

Yes.

Due to life generally getting in the way, I only studied on a Friday night for a few hours (taking practice tests over and over) and passed with flying colours the next morning. It’s an English comprehension test, primarily.

Would probably fail today - I retained the particularly useless facts like the number of members of the Welsh Assembly for only the time it took to pass the test.

JazzyJelly · 03/03/2025 21:00

Passed, but entirely on the basis of being a history teacher. Who gives a fuck where Cheltenham is?!

They are insulting and ridiculous. Shame on the civil servant who came up with this drivel.

And when I say "we" I of course mean England, not the whole UK. I know the difference... because I passed the test! Halo

RampantIvy · 03/03/2025 21:05

Failed the first one and passed the second one.

FoolishHips · 03/03/2025 21:05

I passed the first one at 79 percent. Below average apparently!

Pebbles16 · 03/03/2025 21:06

Some of the questions are written quite poorly

We use the same technique at work with statutory training questions. Pass every time without actually reading the module first.

Hurdlin · 03/03/2025 21:12

Some questions are ambiguous, some ridiculous and some factually incorrect as they refer to the 'UK' when they actually mean 'England & Wales'.

Those of us who live here do 😉

Admittedly I had to check before moving here though.

RaininSummer · 03/03/2025 21:15

58 per cent. Oh dear. I messed up a lot of dates and didn't read some questions properly.
