Could you pass a Life in the UK test

ItsChristmasEEEVEJeff · 03/03/2025 20:31

I have just wasted spent far too long doing life in the UK mock tests online for a bit of fun. However, I have failed every single one 😁

https://lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk/tests/

Can you pass any of the mock tests or am I just really stupid when it comes to the UK.

The question about the free TV licence was out of date and wrong. Passed on third attempt!

RedHelenB · 03/03/2025 21:16

20 out of 25 passed with tine to spare. Helps I like History and politics though.

Out of 24 sorry, so I was marginally above average.

Ridiculous questions

Most of it wasn't about life in the UK. It was about random historical stuff. I didn't even take History GCSE. I took Geography!

Gotthemoozles · 03/03/2025 21:20

I had to do this test about 20 years ago as a settled immigrant here, and passed, but only by studying hard! It definitely wasn't an English comprehension test at that time (maybe it's changed now); I speak English as my first language but I wouldn't have passed without memorising a lot of facts.
Memorable questions included:
What percentage of mothers with a child under 5 years old work more than 20 hours/week?
Is the Speaker in the House of Commons elected by the public / elected by MPs / nominated by the King / nominated by the Prime Minister?
What percentage of people living in the UK were born outside of the UK?
Lots of questions about dates, a couple about which composers composed various pieces of music.
My mum was behind stressed about it. She's not stupid by any means but had to leave school aged 14 to look after her younger siblings, and was terrified she would fail and be the cause of us all having to leave. But she passed, and here we all still are :)

Same!!
also confused by living in Scotland where stuff like
court systems is slightly different

Ineffable23 · 03/03/2025 21:23

I passed it. Weirdly one of the questions is wrong. It says civil servants can't stand for public office, but junior civil servants can stand for local government elections so I don't really understand why they said that.

I got two history questions wrong about who was king when Wales joined the union and the date the war of the roses started.

Geranium1984 · 03/03/2025 21:25

I did the citizenship test a few years ago and studied so so hard. I had post it botes with facts and dates all over the house 😅 I managed to pass! I had so much wrote learned knowledge stored, I think it all disappeared within a week!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 03/03/2025 21:26

failed
ridiculous test and imo unfair

TheChosenTwo · 03/03/2025 21:27

Failed the first one with 16, I’m crap at history and never liked it at school so I’m sure I’ve been taught at least some of it!
But a friend of mine applied for citizenship a few years ago and would be excellent and pass them all I reckon (she now has citizenship).

Those of us who live here do 😉

Admittedly I had to check before moving here though.

I'll concede to someone with your username!

My late husband (European historian and multi-published writer) tried it with two professorial friends, one of whom was Simon Schama who has a brain the size of a planet. All three failed, though I think some it was because they were either over-literal, or over-analytical ('Hmmn...I suppose it depends what you mean by Wales' or 'Of course, technically Germany didn't exist then...)
Anyway, pretty silly.

mitogoshigg · 03/03/2025 21:34

I passed it first time but got a few of the date ones wrong but then I haven't revised for it. Had no idea the Scottish parliament was so big!

Chiseltip · 03/03/2025 21:37

Tried and failed.

spoodlesee · 03/03/2025 21:39

I got 66% which was a fail

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 03/03/2025 21:39

I had to sit the test two years ago in order to obtain the citizenship. I passed on the first go but I did study a lot and did dozens and dozens of mock tests.

I paid extra attention to roundheads and cavaliers section as I didn’t have the foggiest of them. I don’t think that era was covered at school in my home country. Luckily I did as there was a question about them in the actual test.

All in all I quite enjoyed studying the history section as this country does have the most amazing rich history. The sport section was dull.

Most useless question: How many ski centres are in Scotland.

spoodlesee · 03/03/2025 21:39

My history is shocking though

ItsChristmasEEEVEJeff · 03/03/2025 21:40

To be fair, the linked website could be outdated and just naff questions. I’m sure other websites with mocks probably have better questions and are more representative of recent events. For instance, I had one question asking who would be the next monarch and Charles was the answer 🤨

Is there a textbook that helps you prepare for these tests. I did two and passed both at around 75%. Some answers were pure guesses though.

spoodlesee · 03/03/2025 21:42

@Ineffable23 I put true for the civil service one, also failed War of Roses, who was the King, scottish parliament, irish flag (didn't read that one properly)

soupyspoon · 03/03/2025 21:43

I did one from that link ready to feel smug but I have failed

Most people arent interested and dont know or care about whether civil servants can stand for public office or when the war of the roses started (even though I love history I managed to get that one wrong)

But a test really should be about how to live in the UK, what our social norms and expectations are, rules about queuing, not spitting in the street, noise levels, manners, , expectations about accessing education, how disability and MH is viewed/managed. I suppose vast vast numbers of people already here would fail that too.

bellocchild · 03/03/2025 21:43

I passed both the first two, with a very slightly higher than average score, but I have no idea when England parted from France geologically!

SuziQuinto · 03/03/2025 21:43

92% in 2.13 mins.
Fun!

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 03/03/2025 21:44

Nope. Took test 1 and failed with only 14 out of I think it was 24.

I don't give a shit about sports and clearly my British comprehensive education failed me in both history and geography.

Slightly worrying that I’ve failed the first two 😬
