Could you pass a Life in the UK test

I have just wasted spent far too long doing life in the UK mock tests online for a bit of fun. However, I have failed every single one 😁

https://lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk/tests/

Can you pass any of the mock tests or am I just really stupid when it comes to the UK.

Slightly worrying that I’ve failed the first two 😬

Don’t worry, I think I only passed by the 6th test but by then most of the questions were repeats from the previous 5 😅

I got 11 out of 24 i think thats good really impressed with myself not.

mindutopia · 03/03/2025 21:54

I have passed it. I am now a British citizen. Honestly, it was really very easy. One of my questions was what is celebrated on the 1st of April every year? (April Fools Day, is that actually a holiday?) And what agency oversees issuing of driving licenses? (DVLA). There were maybe one or two history questions, but honestly, unless your English was poor, the actual test is really quite easy.

Fatloss · 03/03/2025 21:55

squeaked pass at 75%. Question about 5 rights in the UK is wrong - says residents and citizens have the right to vote- many residents don’t.

Is there a textbook that helps you prepare for these tests. I did two and passed both at around 75%. Some answers were pure guesses though.

Yes there is.

My understanding is that at least part of the reason why these tests are mandatory is to demonstrate a willingness to learn about the countries people are wanting to live in. Other countries do the same thing like Australia and US.

Hortus · 03/03/2025 22:01

I did the first two and passed, got one question wrong on each. I thought they were straightforward and mostly general knowledge. However I am British and 61 years old so it would be rather embarrassing if I didn't know most of the answers having lived here that long.

Fatloss · 03/03/2025 22:06

Did another and got 92% - more arty stuff on it- one question posed problem for those with good comprehension
What is the first verse of the National Anthem of the UK ‘God save the King’?

The first line (and correct answer) is God save our gracious king, first verse?

Odd that question on what the commonwealth is made no mention at all of the Empire in any potential answer.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 03/03/2025 22:07

I just failed it with 71% 😂

Did anyone else keep getting MI5 and GCHQ job adverts pop up during it?!

ParrotParty · 03/03/2025 22:09

Failed. Don't see the relevance of things like when the UK separated geographically from the mainland, or what date wars were or which poet was famous during a certain queen's reign etc.
Surely focusing on morals, laws, social norms and society would make far more sense.

BansheeOfTheSouth · 03/03/2025 22:09

84% of the population live in England so looks like 84% of the questions are about England and English history. Not so helpful if you're Scottish.

Still passed with 4 wrong in every single test 😂 all of them history.

Are the tests online not accurate? The one I just did on the link in the OP was impossible to pass without extensive historical knowledge.

Delphiniumandlupins · 03/03/2025 22:12

Passed the first one (only with 75%) so going to quit while I'm ahead.

I got one wrong in the first test. The what did this person invent one.

Tirry · 03/03/2025 22:15

I have lived in the U.K. for 30 years, married a Brit and my children are dual nationals. After Brexit I thought I’d get dual citizenship myself, but I can’t be asked to study for and take this test which 80% of British nationals would fail themselves.i went for settled status instead.

nowahousewife · 03/03/2025 22:15

Passed the real thing a few years ago and passed the first one in the link with 19/24. My English husband failed every mock he tried! Of course he then decided the tests were just silly!

I think if English is your mother tongue, you were educated in a commonwealth country in the 1970’s or 1980’s (not sure about nowadays) and you read fairly broadly then you should be able to pass easily. The woman sitting next to me when I sat my test told me it was her 5th attempt and that her London born teenagers told her they’d disown her if she failed again 😂

EasterIssland · 03/03/2025 22:16

I want to get the citizenship. There are two things stopping me. The money and this f*ng test 😂

pizzaHeart · 03/03/2025 22:17

FoolishHips · 03/03/2025 21:05

I passed the first one at 79 percent. Below average apparently!

@FoolishHips I’ve got 79% in the first one too.
Don’t have time to do others as need to do some ironing for tomorrow.
I actually passed my life in the UK test more than 15 years ago with 100% result but it’s never bad to refresh 🙂

You don't need extensive historical knowledge at all!!
You just need a modicum of historical knowledge which should be straightforward general knowledge for the average person.

KnickerlessParsons · 03/03/2025 22:19

I got 79% in the one that I did. So that would be an A grade I think.

soundsys · 03/03/2025 22:20

I got 75%. Mu lack of knowledge of English history let me down (I am British but not English)

Octavia64 · 03/03/2025 22:21

I passed,

Mostly from my historical knowledge.

Agree it's easier to exclude obviously wrong answers and work from there.

TheodoraCrumpet · 03/03/2025 22:27

I squeaked a pass on the first attempt, which was good enough for me. I didn't see the relevance of lots of the questions. Some were ridiculously easy, while others were random bits of trivia, really.

ArmyBarbie · 03/03/2025 22:28

I failed the 1st with 16/24; but passed the 2nd, with 20/24.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/03/2025 22:28

I’m struggling to see why knowing that Emmeline Pankhurst set up her organisation in 1889 or 1890 will make you a better or worse uk citizen. Or what the population of England was in 1700. And I say that as someone who studied history!

Pallisers · 03/03/2025 22:30

I did a few of them and passed. I've never lived in the UK. It is a strange set of questions. And the inclusion of Jayne Torvill in every set of answers about sportswomen in almost sweet.
