Could you pass a Life in the UK test

ItsChristmasEEEVEJeff · 03/03/2025 20:31

I have just wasted spent far too long doing life in the UK mock tests online for a bit of fun. However, I have failed every single one 😁

https://lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk/tests/

Can you pass any of the mock tests or am I just really stupid when it comes to the UK.

I just tried the first two questions and got nowhere! Cannot do anymore as at work (my excuse anyway!!)

DeanElderberry · 04/03/2025 07:44

I failed it. It asked me the population of the UK in 1801 and wanted me to say 8 million. In 1801 the population of England + Scotland was more than 10 million, that of Ireland (part of the UK after January 1st) it was ca 5 million.

So glad I don't live in the UK and have to learn off the wrong answers for a test!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/03/2025 08:00

54%. Forgot time, but about 3mins
Reasons:
baby was crying
I was hiding in the living room
toddler came to tell me baby was crying
I didn't study
I'm not British
I'm Canadian
Living in Canada

Re-took test. 75%. 3mins10sec
👏

CrushingOnRubies · 04/03/2025 13:30

Got 90% on set 3:25

But what a weird bunch of questions. What's the obsession with when the war of the roses began and ended? I only ply ow because I've read some Philippa Gregory books. But certainly didn't learn it in my very English school history lessons

And does it matter where the London Eye is, I know it's on the Thames but what side of the bank I don't know

BarnacleBeasley · 04/03/2025 13:40

I did test #4 and passed it but I maintain that actually surfing is also popular in the UK so the question that wants you to say 'which two watersports are popular' is bollocks. Also I don't know or care when the bronze age was.

SuddenFrisson · 04/03/2025 13:44

Glorybox2025 · 03/03/2025 20:33

No, I failed the practices when I was supporting my ex to take it. However it's really not a test of how much you know about the UK, it's a test of your English comprehension.

It’s not, you know — my comprehension is perfect. I’m a native speaker of English who lived in England from 1997 to 2019, highly educated, and I just did Test 8 and, though I passed, got lots of questions wrong. Didn’t know who invented the hovercraft or that the Lake District National Park was bigger than the Snowdonia NP, or when legislation to stop people being coerced into marriage was introduced in Scotland.

They've never been to Newquay/ Cornwall

MiddleAgedDread · 04/03/2025 14:24

@SuddenFrisson same here, the questions I got wrong are facts that I simply don't know......dates of events, film producers, kings and queens, the English legal system (I live in the UK but not in England)......

LadyDanburysHat · 04/03/2025 14:48

My history knowledge is not great, so I found many of the questions really hard.

bookworm14 · 04/03/2025 15:06

I’ve taken five of the tests and passed all of them. They’re a weird mixture of the fairly obscure and the blindingly obvious.

Here is a link to some other (apparently as of 2025) mock tests. Still failed.

This one let me do a couple of tests before asking me to sign in to continue.

Still so many history questions too?!!

I think I’m just going to conclude that I know bugger all historical dates and about the political and legal systems on this country!!

Hortus · 04/03/2025 21:08

Perhaps failing these tests, which I think are pretty straightforward general knowledge, is a sign for you to brush up on your general knowledge of the UK and its history and systems, even if you are British.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 04/03/2025 21:14

I took geography and dropped history in year 9.

NicePinnylove · 04/03/2025 22:44

Scraped the first test with 75%, 88% on the next two. Some were wild guesses, like the date of the referendum, etc. Love a quiz though, I might just do another one or two.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 04/03/2025 22:50

Passed first time

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 05/03/2025 13:01

I like your MN one @MiddleAgedDread

I've just done first test and got 79% pass. Like others, I struggled with some of the historical ones. I understand that if you are doing this for real you get study materials? I bet there's a huge proportion of people who are UK born that don't know a lot of those things.

LlynTegid · 05/03/2025 13:06

I did test number five. I would say that perhaps six or seven of the 25 questions were useful to daily life. I got 92%.

I would like to see a test that is relevant, especially when it comes to acceptable behaviour.

MiddleAgedDread · 05/03/2025 13:08

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea I think it's like the driving theory where there's a book of all the possible questions. I just don't see how most of it is even relevant to life in the UK whether you know it or not!

XelaM · 05/03/2025 13:11

I passed it first time when I was getting my citizenship, but some questions were very obscure.

This site is good, but I think the tests in the "Tests" section are a bit too hard, but the tests in "Exam" section are OK.

In addition I would also recommend https://lifeintheukpracticetests.uk/ as it has helped me pass my exam as it allows to bookmark questions and seems to automatically makes a list of the questions which you have answered incorrectly in the tests and show them on a separate page which you can review later (This was a game-changer for my final days of preparation as I could see all my mistakes in one place).

While practice tests are great, I also highly recommend reading the official book. It's a fascinating read on British history and culture and an excellent way to prepare for the test.

I have done practice tests and passed every one.

Though why it is useful to know when the Wars of the Roses were, or who became Prime Minister in 1940, is beyond me.

I'd prefer a test about responsibilities of someone in this country.
