Tiramisu.

I'm about to try some.
I know I'm not going to like it, but hey ho! 😅

Anything you've yet to try?

Tried oysters. Didn't think much to them, largely because within minutes I was on the floor. Apparently they are the only thing that I am allergic to!

Interesting.... I tried to eat them once at a party and got it in my mouth but then just could not bring myself to swallow it, it was if my whole body was going "NO!!" – which I've always assumed was just because of their weird texture but I will eat pretty much anything else… Luckily someone told me to spit it into a hanky!!

I wonder if I was actually allergic too, and my body did not want me to swallow it?!

aspidernamedfluffy · 02/03/2025 19:07

Burgers
Sausages ( meat ones)
Meat pies

I'm almost 60.

Gonners · 02/03/2025 19:07

I tried to eat tripe once, eating alone in a small restaurant in France. I couldn't get it past my nose, so I have no idea what it tastes like. I can't offhand think of anything else.

ThePussy · 02/03/2025 19:08

A ready meal.

localnotail · 02/03/2025 19:08

I never eaten exotic stuff like sea urchins - not by choice but because never had an opportunity. Ate pretty much everything else I had a chance to eat!

CorsicaDreaming · 02/03/2025 19:09

What about sea urchin?! That's an interesting one... v pungent. Nice with olive oil and lots of rustic bread...

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/03/2025 19:10

I don't ever want to try

Insects
Shark - I decided I didn't want to eat Roc when I realised it was shark (we need all the sharks in the sea)
Whale/cetacean. Just No.
Birdsnest Soup
Frogs' Legs
Sea Urchin
Grubs
Caviar
Hare - don't care they aren't endangered everywhere
Ortolan/Ambelopoulia. Wrong. Just wrong, wrong, wrong.
Reptiles
Anything that could be tied to a pandemic at some point that isn't a pig/goat/cow/sheep/chicken

Have had once and won't eat again (although they taste so good) octopus, squid or eel. Cuttlefish go into the won't eat category as well.

I'll try any fruit or vegetable, pulse, bean, nut or non gluten containing grain. I don't think some are worth the bother or expense - taro, oca, prickly pear, pomegranate, physallis - and lychees tasted soapy to me, so I won't have them again.

the80sweregreat · 02/03/2025 19:12

Never eaten haggis or tried Sushi.
Black pudding

CorsicaDreaming · 02/03/2025 19:13

@localnotail - that is the weirdest coincidence… I was literally way up the thread and didn't realise I was going to post about sea urchin just after you. What are the chances?!

GreenMarigold · 02/03/2025 19:14

Peanuts and peanut butter. I absolutely cannot stand the smell and immediately get the urge to be sick if I smell them. I’m funny about nuts in general so I haven’t tried any nuts except hazelnuts, almonds and pistachios.

Otherwise I am a partially reformed very fussy eater. I’ve eaten a lot of things in the last 5 years and quite liked quite a few of them.

I have still never had courgette, artichoke, a kebab, a samosa, mushrooms, blue cheeses, Camembert, liver, kidney, any kind of chutney or a BLT sandwich.

I’ve also never tried a lot of drinks. Never had most kinds of coffee except a nice safe Americano.

GoldMoon · 02/03/2025 19:14

Never eaten a kebab nor a pulled meat anything.
Never drank a prosecco ( sp ? )

CatherinedeBourgh · 02/03/2025 19:16

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 02/03/2025 17:17

Never had McDonald's

I've never had one either. Gone in a few times, but the smell kills my appetite so I've never eaten there.

LooeLooe · 02/03/2025 19:18

Sushi

Thomasina79 · 02/03/2025 18:58

Veal out of principle. Because of the cruel way the animals are treated. Never see the light of day. And I am an (occasional) meat eater!

You can get ethical veal, raised with its mother in a field.

It's pink though, not pale like the crated one. Tastes better imo.

FindingMeno · 02/03/2025 19:19

I tried stilton for the first time recently.
Omfg. Revolting doesn't cover it.

AitkenDrum1970 · 02/03/2025 19:19

Most meat and fish - been vegetarian since I was tiny (just can’t bear the taste/sensation) and I’m now 55.

So you have tried it.

FallingIsLearning · 02/03/2025 19:23

Things that I have encountered but could not bring myself to stomach:
Jellied eels.
eyeballs (of any animal - my older relatives prize the eyeballs in fish head curry)
100 year egg

Things that I have heard of but not encountered and would be interested to try
ackee
fiddlesticks
prickly pear
(I’m sure there are many more that don’t come to mind currently)

@FridgeJenga - mangosteen ARE indeed delicious, but beware the stains. My mum made us strip off to eat them when I was little.

SmudgeButt · 02/03/2025 19:24

Insects. I do have some standards. Granted not a lot.

I do like oysters, any type of offal, love it when we have bbq skewers of lambs kidneys and hearts. We've currently got an order in with our butcher friend for sweetbreads.

Happy to eat most things raw - had something like lamb tartar once in a turkish place. It was ok, I prefer the beef version.

I had a friend in uni who was from Singapore and she used to invite me out to oriental restaurants mostly to see if she could find something I wouldn't eat. First time she pushed something in front of me, expecting me to gasp in horror, and all I said was "oh! tripe!" before tucking in. Another time when I was being invited to the chinese restaurant serving very authentic dim sum she tried again and all her chinese friends were going "ewwww!" And that was chicken feet. Not saying I'd want it every day (not a lot on them frankly) but not that different than eating the tip of a wing. The sauce on them was lovely!!!

LBFseBrom · 02/03/2025 19:25

Lobster
Crab
Langoustine
Prawns
Shrimps (might have, a bit, in special fried rice when very young)
Mussels
Oysters

Nor would I.

OK. Good question. This article is from 2012, but it's interesting to read about the dairy industry generally and "the "hidden scandal" of our love of milk that sees an estimated 100,000 to 150,000 male dairy calves shot within hours of birth."

www.theguardian.com/environment/2012/may/27/rose-veal-jimmy-doherty

PS. I'm lactose-intolerant. I haven't drunk milk since I was 19 (I'm 65).

SnoozingFox · 02/03/2025 19:29

There's a difference between not ever eating/wanting to eat something very obscure like sheep brains or jellied eel, and never having eaten beans or any seafood.

AelinAG · 02/03/2025 19:30

Early thirties and have never eaten any type of fish or seafood other than Birds Eye fish fingers as a child. Steak. Black pudding. White pudding. Lamb. Kombucha. Bacon. Any sort of smelly cheese. Cottage cheese. Any meat that isn’t from a pig/cow/chicken. Whole onion (like a sliced onion, I know ground up onion and onion powder are in lots of things)

I was a picky eater as a child and as an adult I alternate between vegan and veggie, which means a lot of those things I never will eat!

But I have eaten a scorpion?

Coffeeishot · 02/03/2025 19:31

theboffinsarecoming · 02/03/2025 19:04

Yes, I know it is, and I used to eat it until I found out what it's made of, and that put me off somewhat.

I don't think it's any different to eating meat really.

Porcuporpoise · 02/03/2025 19:32

Oysters
Cat
Monkey
Whale
That fish the Japanese eat that you have to get all the bits out or it kills you
