Tiramisu.

I'm about to try some.
I know I'm not going to like it, but hey ho! 😅

Anything you've yet to try?

Lots of people are listing stuff that is hardly common these days, so not really the same as tiramisu.

I’n in my 50s and up until quite recently I’d never eaten a grape. And having tried one I shall never eat one again.

Now this did surprise me! Not the not liking, but the never eating because grapes are fairly mainstream fruit.

I don’t ever remember grapes, or actually much fruit at all, being around when I was growing up - fruit was usually in a pudding like crumble or pie. Can’t recall my parents ever eating a piece of fruit raw.
I can’t get that excited about fruit. Except raspberries.

Kale is disgusting. You aren’t missing anything.

Besides the usual ethical/repulsed reasons, I don't think there's anything freely available in the UK and generally considered to be delicious that I haven't eaten.

Oh no, hang on. I've never had a Wagon Wheel. Or a Walnut Whip.

It must be something about alliterative Ws.

I’m pretty much using this thread as a shopping list for interesting sounding stuff I’ve not tried yet.

Steak

Gonksmum · 02/03/2025 19:51

57 and never eaten: anything pickled, curry, tripe, aubergine, cucumber or bananas since the age of about 2.

There's a difference between not ever eating/wanting to eat something very obscure like sheep brains or jellied eel, and never having eaten beans or any seafood.

Please may I disagree?

If someone kills a lamb so Mumsnetters can eat rack of lamb, chops, roast shoulder, etc. how can a lamb's brain be 'very obscure'.

Every lamb's got one. And presumably lamb's offal? Every lamb's got some. It's all part of the dead animal. Should the 'obscure' bits be thrown away? Fed to pets? Turned into fertilizer? Nose to tail eating, anyone?

ItisIbeserk · 02/03/2025 17:34

Butternut squash is very similar indeed to sweet potato. Mashed, you’d probable struggle to know the difference.

Apart from the texture and flavour.
Butternut is much lighter, 'greener (which isn't the right word at all but clearly an above ground vegetable) and perfumed.
Sweet potatoes are smoother, clearly root veg, more earthy generally.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 02/03/2025 19:54

Indian food.
I'm sure there is bound to be some that I would probably love, but the smell of it just walking past the doorway of an Indian restaurant makes me actually vomit, so I can't even enter a restaurant.

If I'm in the room with an open container of Parmesan cheese, or someone has put it on a meal I also throw up, so I don't ever go to Italian restaurants either, but I have eaten Italian food without Parmesan at home where the stuff is banned.

Can't do most very strong tasting foods actually, so no mature cheeses either.

Ferro · 02/03/2025 19:58

I could not bring myself to try anything that has the word 'fermented' in its description.

What, you've never had bread, cheese, or wine??

Nice username.

What about Percebes? You'll almost certainly need to go to North West Spain but they're fantastic seafood. Soft, sweet, warm, and really difficult to harvest. Lovely if you can get them... (AKA Goose Barnacles.)

Ophy83 · 02/03/2025 20:00

I happily eat most items mentioned, especially the seafood. I wouldn't eat tripe, animal eyeballs (I've had fish eyes), fermented shark, Adidas eggs etc.

ODFOx · 02/03/2025 20:00

I've tried everything mentioned so far except brains. Some I liked and some I didn't but I'll always give things a try. The only thing I couldn't eat, not even to avoid offending a host, is gelatinous fish: the white side of a plaice or jellied eels. I have tried them, but couldn't do it again.
DM had brains on toast for Sunday breakfast growing up as a treat. Scrapie stopped us eating sheep brains and then CJD put paid to calf brains so I'll never get the chance.

changedusernameforthis1 · 02/03/2025 20:05

I don't like tiramisu either.

I've never tried a hot curry, like Vindaloo level. But I'm curious.
I'd never tried passion fruit until a couple of weeks ago.
Before she met me, DW had never even heard of a deep fried mars bar and said it sounded awful. We now love to enjoy them together 😅

henlake7 · 02/03/2025 20:07

I've never eaten any of the gross animal bits, or sea snot (aka oysters, whelks, etc).
Artichokes
Dragon fruit

Oh, also I was vegan for 6 yrs before I tried avocado.....
Not impressed, have not bothered since!

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 02/03/2025 20:12

Never eaten anything from Subway. The smell puts me off.

ODFOx · 02/03/2025 20:14

@OldGothsFadeToGrey
Do you buy razor clams frozen or freeze them yourself? I've never dared to freeze shellfish myself and have never seen razor clams sold frozen. If you by them frozen, where? Thanks

marmiteandcheeseoncrumpetspls · 02/03/2025 20:14

Baked beans 😷
Nope. No way. The stench is enough to confirm that I'm definitely not missing out.

saveforthat · 02/03/2025 17:11

Well it depends if you like coffee or not.

Not necessarily. I hate coffee but love tiramisu 😂
