I'm currently rereading some of my childhood favourites on my Kindle and it's lovely ☺️

So far I've read A Traveller in Time, Marianne Dreams, Green Smoke, Charlotte Sometimes, A Stitch in Time and loads of Enid Blyton.

What were your beloved books as a child? I also loved Carbonel, Gobbolino the Witch's Cat, Tom's Midnight Garden, the Noel Streatfeild books and E Nesbitt.

Many already mentioned. I will add the 'Katy' books by Susan Coolidge. Back in the 80s only the first three were in print - imagine my delight as an adult when 'Girls Gone By' reprinted the last two!

SwanOfThoseThings · 01/03/2025 19:52

No idea why that post has been hidden! I was just adding books!

BarbieBrightSide · 01/03/2025 19:52

As a pony mad child I loved the 'Jill' books when I was growing up and have re read and enjoyed them as an adult.

Ditto Carbonel - I read that with my older son when he was a teen and was very touched when he was emotional about the broom! Although I also remember reading 'The Happy Prince' to him, getting choked up, him saying 'I'll take over, Mum' and also being incapable of reading on. Books are POWERFUL

Enid Blyton's 'Barney" books. I had a set that belonged to Mummy when she was a child and I was obsessed. I still adore them to this day

I was obsessed with The Never-ending Story as a kid. I should re-read it as an adult, and also show the film to my husband who has never seen it!

Still have my original copy of watership down 😳

Drbrowns · 01/03/2025 20:07

I used to love reading Heidi, the little house on the prairie books, I had all three in one big book, and the little women.

I also loved the baby sitters club and Mallory towers but only read them once each. I didn’t read them over and over.

smashedhen · 01/03/2025 20:08

The Flambards books, and any by Penelope Lively- Astercote is my favourite

Feelingstrange2 · 01/03/2025 20:08

St Clares, Malory Towers and Trebizon.

As an adult I'm just as bad. Anything by Jane Austen or the Bronte Sisters. Diana by RF Delderfield. Over and over.

I'm on some sort of spectrum!
