Why would you do click and collect?

I did during covid
I used to do online delivery but you dont always get what you want, you have a minimum spend,
I like to vary between shops.
so rarely do online shopping.
the negative of click and collect is surely the same, you dont get what you want?
I guess there is less temptation?

I’ve done it when I want food asap, and delivery is 4 days plus, it’s quicker for me to add it all at home using existing online shopping lists and send my son down to collect!

MindlessDaydream · 01/03/2025 17:05

I only tend to do it now if I have a discount. Otherwise, I shop in store. The quality of what they pick has gone down and it's not worth the convenience.

Bowling4soup · 01/03/2025 17:05

I use it if I can't get the home delivery time slot that I want. Or if I'm too late to change it/want to book it for the next day, I can get a click and collect instead as usually the next day delivery slots are all gone but click and collect is always available

roses2 · 01/03/2025 17:06

I've done it when click and collect is cheaper than ordering in person because I have eg an online discount code. Common around here with takeaways.

Liliol · 01/03/2025 17:06

How don't you get what you want? They select it and keep it (including bringing it from a different branch to your local one, if need be). You pick it up. If you don't like it, get a refund.

HotelCustody · 01/03/2025 17:07

Because I can’t be arsed be to go food shopping after a set of 12+ hours nigh shift.

8889MockTurtle · 01/03/2025 17:07

i can imagine if it is a huge supermarket going physically shopping in there can be daunting.

In the case of supermarkets, click and collect is usually cheaper than delivery.

I use C&C if it’s a big store and it’s a pain to find the item, never mind in the right size eg Primark

I’d also use C&c if it was going to be picked up by someone else or it’s cheaper than delivery and I don’t want to order lots to make it up to the delivery threshold.

8889MockTurtle · 01/03/2025 17:08

is there no minimum spend on click and collect?

8889MockTurtle · 01/03/2025 17:09

you might be convincing me @Snorlaxo Wink

I do it because the only time I have to go shopping is a Saturday afternoon and it means I don't have to physically go into Tesco at this timewhich I have barely done in about 5 years and that suits me fine! My dog goes mad at the Tesco delivery man and saves me time and stress so this is a great option for me 😊

saveforthat · 01/03/2025 17:10

You can usually get a same day slot. Delivery can be a week or more

Talipesmum · 01/03/2025 17:10

I don’t particularly want / need to vary between shops, and anything that arrives that isn’t what I want, I send back when shopping is delivered. It’s fairly rare though, and generally pretty minor - different type of bread, different flavour or make of icecream.

Delivery is easier but like others above we do click and collect if we forgot to book an order for delivery, as there are usually click and collect slots available last minute. Plus if you don’t like what they give you, you can give it back for a refund, and then it’s easy to nip into the shop to get a better option, and still a lot quicker than going all the way round with a trolley for a full shop.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 01/03/2025 17:11

I generally hate supermarkets. Sensory overload. Annoying people. Absolute nightmare. Click and collect is easier and cheaper than delivery. Though i don't like teaco or sainsburys click and collect as the unloading into shopping bags is stressful.

Aldi click and collect was a game changer for me as its cheaper and i actually prefer aldi for a lot of things. Was absolutely gutted when they stopped it. I now have to go into Aldi. Thankfully have developed a system and go to an Aldi with self service tills. But still have to put up with the shoppers who treat it as a day out and a
spend hours browsing each item and chatting in the aisles.

I also use my clubcard points to pay for it so it feels like I get it for free (not able to edit sorry)

I used to do Aldi c&c before they scrapped it. It saves me a lot to shop there compared to Tesco. I usually go in person but sometimes too tired/ill/busy so ordered online for next day pick up. Gutted they scrapped it.

ThePoshUns · 01/03/2025 17:17

I don't as it means someone else does the shopping for me.
I find it better than delivery as I'm not having to wait in for an hour.
My click and collect store is a 10
minutes drive so normally pop by in my way home from work.
Usually do my order in a Sunday evening and collect the following afternoon.

Onlyforaweek · 01/03/2025 17:19

I do it when I’m pretending to do the weekly shop, but instead click and collect, then sit in the supermarket carpark with a coffee and a book.

You can often get a quicker slot than delivery

CompluterSaysNo · 01/03/2025 17:21

I prefer delivery if I can get a slot where I know 100% I will be home. If I'm not entirely sure of plans then click and collect is a larger window and I can guarantee I will be able to pick it up at some point over the 3 hours. It will still save time over going round the shops and I can double-check our cupboards during the order!

jellyfishperiwinkle · 01/03/2025 17:21

I used to do it with Aldi as they didn't do deliveries, and it was better than shopping in store as there was a bigger range of stuff. DH would pick it up and put it all away while I was at an exercise class.

We just get a Tesco delivery now, it's so easy.

RiderOfTheBlue · 01/03/2025 17:25

I use click & collect because there is no supermarket delivery where I live. The store is too far away. They offer a sort of hybrid service, we order via click & collect and they bring it to the nearest village. We collect it from there. It's a fab service and I'm very thankful that they do this.

ARichtGoodDram · 01/03/2025 17:31

Click and collect is £25 minimum spend compared to £40. I've never had a cancelled C&c but they often cancel deliveries round here.

Also means I can collect out and about, but don't have to find parking and get the kids out of the car.

CatsWhiskerz · 01/03/2025 17:32

These days disabilities mean I dread supermarkets, so I click and DH collects! I also find it's easier to meal plan and not forget anything with my regulars on hand

Ritzybitzy · 01/03/2025 17:40

Supermarket shop - takes an hour. They move shit around.

click and collect. 3 minutes.
