Why would you do click and collect?

I did during covid
I used to do online delivery but you dont always get what you want, you have a minimum spend,
I like to vary between shops.
so rarely do online shopping.
the negative of click and collect is surely the same, you dont get what you want?
I guess there is less temptation?

But why not do delivery, which is even easier?

The door bell goes the dog goes ballistic the baby wakes. God no.

HappyMummaOfOne · 01/03/2025 19:10

I do it so my baby can sleep in the car and I can get food :) I don’t have to wake them up and get them out of the car when we get there as I’m just loading the boot. Then by the time I get home they have had a nice long nap, I’ve done my shopping and I got a few moments of silence on the drive 😍

SilverGlitterBaubles · 01/03/2025 19:11

Home delivery is preferable but anything is better than spending time in a busy supermarket at weekends so if click and collect is the only option then that's ok by me.

sellthesunset · 01/03/2025 19:14

I do click and collect couple times a month - you don't have to wait in, you can go anytime within the hour e.g 11.58 if you've booked 11-12, substitutions are minimal and only costs 50p

ExtraDecluttering · 01/03/2025 19:16

I prefer shopping in person, but it’s better than delivery because if there are any subs you don’t want you can pop into the store and choose your own substitute, or pick up anything you thought of after the cut off for changing the order. I’d only do delivery if I was too ill to go shopping in person but would consider click and collect if I was in a tearing hurry.

I do it for other things because it saves delivery charges and in some places you can return things on the spot if the aren’t right (eg I picked up something in Next today, tried it on and could have returned it there and then if it didn’t fit)

Yeah I'm with you on this 😀I have absolutely no idea why people don't like delivery or c&c!

The supermarket will pick my entire order for me and bring it right to my door. I don't have to go round the shop, find all my groceries,, load them in the trolley, take them out of the trolley and load them onto a conveyor, load them into the trolley again, back out of the trolley and into the car, then all out of the car and into my house.

Yes I get occasional subs, but it's rare and they're always sensible, I simply don't get the issues that people seem to encounter on here!

It's a complete no brainer, it saves me considerable time every week.

I don't like being tied to a collection time. I might not feel well or have to go somewhere or there's a problem with the car and then what? I'd rather go on my terms, when I decide. It does help that the main supermarket is a 3 minute drive away so I can literally nip there and run round whenever I want to.

I usually choose to go when it's quiet, around 8pm. I like seeing what new things are there or be inspired to try a new recipe when it's all there in front of you; you get a better idea of all the offers; I sometimes see something I forgot to put on my list; I can grab non food items instead of going somewhere separate eg a new bath towel, birthday card, batteries or light bulb etc of something that stopped working/ran out earlier that day; or fill my car up with petrol.

As it is so local, I usually bump into someone I know and it's sometimes nice to have a quick catch up.

Tumblingthrough · 01/03/2025 19:18

I do if I’m passing the store on my way home from work.
So I can pick up in the 3-4pm slot. Otherwise I would need to book 5-6pm slot and 6pm is too late!

The C&C slots are also more readily available

WimbyAce · 01/03/2025 19:18

I do it as there are often money off vouchers with an online shop. Plus free to collect as nhs. And then I pop in to get the other things that I like to pick myself.

SofaSpuds · 01/03/2025 19:19

I do it because Tesco charge for delivery but here click and collect is free, over a certain spend.
It helps keep control of what I'm buying / spending and I can put things in the basket throughout the week as I think of things I need.
It's my preferred way of grocery shopping.

RaininSummer · 01/03/2025 19:20

I never gave any issues with it. Used to get a delivery until Covid shen it stopped being available if not in a vulnerable group. It saves me time on a busy Saturday as I can't go in the week easily. Get a rare substitution but it's all loaded into the car in about 5 minutes and so much better than going up and down ten aisles dodging trollies and kids.

CyberStrider · 01/03/2025 19:22

We do click and collect for grocery shopping as it means I can drop off at a club, walk the dogs and pick up click and collect before club pick up and going home. This way it's all done in the morning and the afternoon is free to do whatever we want. If I had to get a delivery it would have to be scheduled for the afternoon and we wouldn't be able to do anything else.

Sometimes delivery slots are a pain. You want a quick poo? If you decide to hang on in case the the delivery comes you can guarantee it'll arrive a minute before the end of the delivery slot and by that time you've given yourself a stomach ache. But if you do go you can bet that half way through the doorbell will go and it'll be your delivery driver.....

Redflagsabounded · 01/03/2025 19:28

It's cheaper than delivery and lower minimum spend. It stops me impulse buying, which is good for my diet and budget.

SeriouslyWhataMess · 01/03/2025 19:29

I do it because I'm disabled and can't push a heavy trolley, but can load into lots of lighter bags to take into the house. I can't do delivery because the drivers put the crates on the floor and I can't bend down to pick up the groceries.

I only ever book a delivery or collection when I know it will work - I'll often book for the next day.

You can get non food stuff on the order as well. Plus it saves money as I don't impulse buy.

Tbf, we do live rurally a good 15 minutes from any shop. And I'm OK with not everyone doing it , it was most annoying during lockdown when everyone was trying to get deliveries and suddenly I couldn't 😆.

nannyl · 01/03/2025 19:34

when at home i normally use Ocado.

If on holiday, and staying in an airbnb, or caravan etc when i dont know the entireaddress (or when ocado dont deliver to the address) I will click and collect to a local store.

It means i dont have to GO shopping.

I hate shopping.... I dont want to spend an hour or so of a holiday or weekend away in a supermarket.

One of my collegues often does a click and collect order during morning break which she collects as she drives past on the way home... after a long day at work, and busy evening ferrying around 3 children, not having to go into Sainsburys makes her life easier, when she realises she needs some more grocerys.

roselilylavender · 01/03/2025 19:35

Supermarkets - usually only when I have left it to get a delivery at the time I want but there are still C&C slots available. It still saves me having to go around the supermarket & queue
Other shops - so I can guarantee that the range of sizes that I want to try is available or because the local branch won't have it (eg I have just ordered some clothing to collect from a M&S Simply Food on Monday. Delivery wouldn't be until later in the week and I need it before then)

doodleygirl · 01/03/2025 19:36

Because we have just moved house, dog is too unsettled to be left alone at the moment, I was so happy when someone suggested click and collect.

SouthernTip · 01/03/2025 19:37

Best thing ever!

Most amazing service for 50p.

My Christmas shop, ordered on the 21st, picked up 23rd, £300 food shop, all done for me!

Trays of good wheeled out to the rear of my car and lifted into the boot.

Excellent value!

Ap42 · 01/03/2025 19:38

I do click and collect as its quick, easy and most importantly stops me impulse buying clothing and homeware... I have zero self control!

NattyTurtle59 · 01/03/2025 19:58

I've never used click and collect for a supermarket shop. I much prefer walking around myself, seeing new products, and choosing what I want at the time - I always end up with things not on my list. I rather enjoy supermarket shopping - am I odd?? I'm there several times a week.

I've never had a delivery either, and only would if there was something wrong with me which meant I couldn't get out for a while.

AlwaysPurple · 01/03/2025 20:07

SnoopySantaPaws · 01/03/2025 18:50

Whose delivery pass is only £40 per year??

my Tesco pass is £7.99 (I think) a month and I still think it's more than worth it!!

i have mine set on no substitutes, and it's rare that what I've ordered isn't available.

i love tesco delivery.💕

Sainsburys midweek (Tues, Wed and Thurs only), which is fine, we meal plan Tuesday to Monday and have delivery on a Tuesday.

mindutopia · 01/03/2025 20:16

Because it’s quicker than wandering around the shop, especially with 2 children in tow. You just zoom up and get your whole shopping order.

I get one, sometimes 2 home deliveries of shopping every week though and have since the dark ages. The only full shop I do in store is the Christmas one once a year. I very rarely have any substitutions or anything out of stock, so makes life so much easier.

Gingercatlover · 01/03/2025 20:20

Because, the time slot I use is free of charge and it means I don't have to battle with others in the shop, unloading a full trolly and then repacking it.

Literally I pull up, chuck it in the boot in my own time under no pressure and pack it how and where I want.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 01/03/2025 20:25

When you've just come home after 3 months away and your delivery was cancelled due to payment problems
