Why would you do click and collect?

I did during covid
I used to do online delivery but you dont always get what you want, you have a minimum spend,
I like to vary between shops.
so rarely do online shopping.
the negative of click and collect is surely the same, you dont get what you want?
I guess there is less temptation?

I always do click and collect. My Supermarket is fucking huge!

TwilightAb · 01/03/2025 20:38

I do c and c a lot. It's more convenient and I'm able to keep the cost down. I did my big shop in store this week and spent much more money.

NotVeryFunny · 01/03/2025 23:43

Click and collect is much quicker and you don't need to traipse around the store loading and unloading shopping in multiple places.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/03/2025 23:49

If it's easier to get a slot and I can just get it and pick it up straight from the van in the car park

Nellsbell · 01/03/2025 23:52

I’m not a supermarket fan. I swap between home delivery and click and collect. It’s easier I don’t have to battle to find what I need or do the packing! Happy to pay someone to do it for me. Plus I rarely have time to be wandering around a supermarket.

HundredPercentUnsure · 01/03/2025 23:56

Because it's in the way home from work so I can pull up, toss the food shop in the boot and be on my merry way again, rather than having to trailer around the store

PicturePlace · 01/03/2025 18:43

But why not do delivery, which is even easier?

Because you collect on your schedule whereas the driver delivers on her schedule. Means you call in on the way home from work, takes five minutes, instead of having to be awake and available to answer the door for a whole hour.

Sparklybutold · 02/03/2025 00:50

I use click and collect or delivery because I have a disability. I'm glad its available.

mrssunshinexxx · 02/03/2025 01:08

Absolutely love c and c. Can book a slot as late as the night before
Go at the same time each week so know the staff are familiar now and they'll often run inside for something for me if it's been subbed and there's likely to be the original thing actually in store now.( always very polite ) have young children and a baby in the car so it's just east

AnxiouslyAwaitingSpring · 02/03/2025 02:01

Click & collect from a supermarket has a lower minimum spend than delivery and so for those of us with disabilities, it's a bloody lifesaver.

However I avoid Morrisons C&C for 2 reasons.
1, Their stock for c&c comes from a different place than the stock for deliveries and the range is farrrrr smaller.
2, They don’t give you bags. So there you are in the car park, in the rain, bending down for 5/10 mins (which is either excruciating or damn well impossible for some of us), in front of the entire car park, whilst the staff member has to stand watching you. Apparently they're not permitted to help which I can fully believe 🙄
I've contacted Morrisons and asked if they have any options for disabled customers such as bags but apparently not. It's the same with deliveries, you have to carry each heavy crate to your kitchen and empty it as fast as you can which is often impossible for me. Exactly the same issue with ASDA.
They too categorically refuse to provide bags for delivery or c&c for any customers, even disabled ones who offer to pay for them!

My current favourite is Ocado delivery, as you get everything in bags and you get a refund on them when you hand them back on your next delivery!

8889MockTurtle · 02/03/2025 07:35

i believe all other supermarkets stopped doing bags some years ago
so for home delivery i took the large bags to the door and unpacked the crates into my bags

No one is saying it shouldn't be available. The curiosity is around why click and collect when you can get delivery. The answer to which from various PPs is that there is a lower minimum spend for click and collect, it costs less than delivery (though an annual delivery pass is just as cheap) and for some people, the doorbell sets their dog off. Oh, and I really liked the one about not wanting to get caught taking a poo - we can all relate!

Mumofyellows · 02/03/2025 08:02

I click and collect my weekly supermarket shop as after a day at work I really can't be bothered to walk round the supermarket doing it myself!

Wonderwall23 · 02/03/2025 08:05

I am a really quick shopper so I wouldn't do click and collect for a food shop as by the time I've bothered to drive there and have to drive back I may as well do the shop as well. It doesn't take me much longer to do a food shop than going in for a couple of items.

I have it delivered and use a delivery pass so it's not expensive. There's always the risk that something is missing or whatever but that's the same with click and collect. I do prefer to pick things myself, so again if I've bothered to get to the supermarket I'd rather just do it.

Only exception is Christmas when I go to store to avoid subs.

Tumblingthrough · 02/03/2025 08:33

I also use it when visiting DM.
Book a slot at her local store, then I pick up on my way there or take her with me. We pop in store and pick out some extra things she fancies and she sees people she knows. It sorts her weekly shop (she can’t shop for long) and is a social trip out for her

jasflowers · 02/03/2025 08:37

We are a nation of fatties & no surprise when people are too fucking lazy to even walk around a supermarket.

No wonder the high street is dead, seems many are incapable of even walking around a town centre.

WonderingWanda · 02/03/2025 08:53

I do click and collect when I've been disorganised and not booked a delivery on the day I want it. I'm always busy and click and collect or delivery is way better than trawling around the supermarket.

Girlintheframe · 02/03/2025 08:53

I use click and collect quite a bit for food shopping. The big Tesco is next to my gym so I just pick up when I'm finished there. Makes my life a lot simpler as I'm constantly time poor.

CarefulN0w · 02/03/2025 09:09

You can usually book click & collect the day before, whereas delivery slots tend to be booked up, especially at weekends. I prefer to shop in person, but if we make late plans for the weekend and are likely to be busy, I sometimes book a C & C on the Friday night to pick up on my way back from work.

Or people's lives are just busier now and don't want to waste over an hour trawling around the supermarket.

CarefulN0w · 02/03/2025 09:13

Also there was a thread a while back from a mumsnetter who used tell her DH she was doing a supermarket shop, then sit and have a coffee and enjoy some rare downtime, before picking up her C & C order.

I no longer have small children, but could totally understand where she was coming from.

TheStigarette · 02/03/2025 09:16

Ive wondered for years who has the time to supermarket shop when a delivery is so easy.

sourpuss23 · 02/03/2025 09:16

It's cheaper than a delivery slot and as I usually pass our supermarket daily it's no bother dropping in. And crucially it saves me trudging around a supermarket with my toddler.

Lushness40 · 02/03/2025 09:22

I get home delivery. Sometimes same day.
If you don’t drive it’s a god send.
Much cheaper than getting Ubers over the year.
It items are not in stock they do tend to provide the next best thing plus if things are short dated they refund me.
Once in a while I will do a shop in store. I also get points over the year for Christmas 😍

TappyGilmore · 02/03/2025 09:28

I use click and collect every single weekend for our main weekly shop. I alternate between two different supermarkets. I hate actually going into the supermarket, I will do it mid-week when I am just running in to grab bread and fruit, but it’s too much hassle to do the main weekly shop in person. Using click and collect I can stick to budget easier, I can see what all of the specials are in one glance, and I can actually find everything.

Why not delivery? Delivery has a fee, and it’s actually quite expensive in my opinion. Click and collect is free at one of my supermarkets, or $1 bag fee at the other one (can’t opt out of it). Also with delivery you don’t know what time it will arrive, it’s a two or three hour time slot which is heaps of time, I prefer to just pick up myself so I can grab it when I want it. I live a 5 minute drive from both supermarkets and both have easy parking, I might be more inclined to get a delivery if they were further away. I do occasionally get it delivered, I recently had Covid and got it then. In 2023 I had a one-month free delivery offer and still only got delivery once!
