Do you pay your TV licence?

Obviously I do but just curious, if you're eligible e.g. watch live tv, do you?

People who don't pay for the license and complain how dire BBC programmes are ought to be forced to watch US TV for a week or so... 😱

comfritt · 28/02/2025 21:47

No. I don't watch live tv or stream any live content. The BBC are a disgusting organisation and that's why I stopped paying.

Louise121806 · 28/02/2025 21:47

Yes, but only because I have two adult children who like to watch TV. If it was just me and my husband I wouldn't watch live TV again and wouldn't pay for the license. I'm shocked it's still a thing to be honest with all the free access to online streaming.

LaughingCat · 28/02/2025 21:48

Of course I do! Rarely watch iPlayer and never watch live but can’t imagine not paying the licence fee.

You’ve just reminded me that it runs out today, though, so thank you!

TaylorSwish · 28/02/2025 22:06

No. They are my enemy.

Motheranddaughter · 28/02/2025 22:07

Of course

AubernFable · 28/02/2025 22:18

No and it’s wonderful but I did do it the legal way. I don’t miss the BBC or live tv at all.

EnchantedForestNearTheRiver · 28/02/2025 22:21

No. Haven’t done for years.

Fluffyowl00 · 28/02/2025 22:22

Yes. Changed from Netflix/Amazon (didn’t have TV license for 2 years in protest against Laura Kuensberg (sic?)). Moved back as feel it’s now better value and she’s no longer political editor.

autisticbookworm · 28/02/2025 22:23

Yes I love BBC and still enjoy watching terrestrial television on a night. I'd sooner they have adverts and drop the license but I'm happy to pay it.

Not paying for Prime and still getting adverts though!!!

LillyPJ · 28/02/2025 22:23

Yes, I do. I think it's good value - so many good things to watch there's no need to pay subscriptions for Sky or Netflix etc either.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/02/2025 22:26

Yes. It's a bargain.

NC28 · 28/02/2025 22:27

Cancelled it years ago. Still waiting for the dreaded knock from a guy with a clipboard accusing me of watching something illegally. 😆

RampantIvy · 28/02/2025 22:29

spuddy4 · 28/02/2025 21:43

No. I don't watch anything on BBC and don't understand why people are happy to pay the likes of Lineker millions to talk about football.

What a silly comment. I don't watch sport but I enjoy a lot of other TV programmes.

I don't understand comments from people who say they only watch certain channels. I only watch programmes I like regardless of what channel they are on.

I doubt very much that the powers that be on the commercial or streaming channels are any better than those on the BBC TBH.

BlueMonkeyChewing · 28/02/2025 22:29

Can they tell if you have been watching BBC on your TV?

VeryQuaintIrene · 28/02/2025 22:35

Yes. Actually better value than Netflix these days.

Wheech · 28/02/2025 22:39

No. I stopped when the cost of living crisis kicked in. I would like to be able to watch the odd programme like Gladiators but it's just not worth the cost for me. It wasn't an emotional decision at the time but I've become quite entrenched in my refusal to pay after the way I have been hounded by them, including showing up at my door, despite informing them I wasn't watching live TV and genuinely living by the rules. They wanted to search my house! I've never had my house searched just in case I might have committed a crime before. I sent them packing.

Pinkdreams · 28/02/2025 22:40

I have sky but I almost never watch it and if I do it's usually Comedy Central or a box set, apart from that we use Netflix/disney. I stopped paying when we mived and do t really see why I should restart it if I'm not using it just because I have sky

TinDogTavern · 28/02/2025 22:41

Yes. It's worth it for the radio output alone. I'm not (generally) a fan of local radio but it's fantastic for local coverage and op-eds, and much less captured than the national current affairs coverage. I dip in and out of radio/TV/iplayer and consider it phenomenal value for money.

Horriblevirusagain · 28/02/2025 22:43

Nope. BBC is rubbish.

freepend · 28/02/2025 22:45

Yes. Why would you not?

ApolloandDaphne · 28/02/2025 22:45

Yes. Because I like the BBC programmes.

caringcarer · 28/02/2025 22:46

Yes, DH and I watch live sport.

howchildrenreallylearn · 28/02/2025 22:47

No. We don’t watch any live TV anymore, just have Prime, Netflix etc now. We were hardly watching anything on live tv at all so cancelled it and we make sure we stick to ‘the rules’.
£13 a month isn’t good value for money if you’re hardly watching it.
