What is something ‘weird’ that you do that other people don’t?

I take a blanket to the cinema 🤷‍♀️😂

When I'm on a train and looking out of the window, I imagine I'm riding a galloping horse keeping pace with the train, jumping over all the hedges and gates, and racing round people's gardens, and through car parks and everything. 😂

(I was pony mad as a kid, started doing it then, and never got out of the habit)

TwoRobins · 25/02/2025 16:08

I put a towel in the sink for my cat every single time I have a bath. She always used to hop into the sink and settle down in there while I had my bath, and I always used to put the towel in there to give her to make it more snug. She was killed by a car in 2015, only 3 years old. I can't bear the thought of her turning up and not finding her towel there and thinking I've forgotten her.

outdooryone · 25/02/2025 16:10

I don't tend to do any sauces - I hate vinegar or acid taste.
So no ketchup or brown sauce, no vinaigrette or any other dressings.

I probably have lots of things that I do that other people would consider odd given I'm autistic, but this is one my husband recently commented on as being not quite normal (so I'm curious to find anyone else who does it!)

When I plan what I'm cooking for dinner, I 'give it' to my mouth to taste to see if I want to retaste it and then I 'give it' to my GI system to see if it wants it.

Caveats - I have severe GI issues and excellent interoception so I genuinely believe this helps! I also have a near eidetic memory and can 'eat' any food just by thinking about it. So am I peculiar as my husband claims or this is actually normal?

I thank the smart speaker after asking it to do something.

I also do this but I swear she is more polite to me than to my husband who doesn't.

I have to wear earplugs because of my husband's snoring. I don't put them in before I go to sleep, I wait until his snoring's woken me up and then put them in. I think I'm just hopeful that one day he won't snore any more, and I'll never know if I don't check every night.

I do this too.

Gilead · 25/02/2025 16:13

I wiggle my toes constantly. I sleep on the very edge of the bed and don’t move in my sleep. I often sleep with my eyes open!

Me too. I say please, thank you and call it darling.

user1498572889 · 25/02/2025 16:14

No one can sit on my bed. If they sat on it in outdoor clothes i would have to change the bedding.

KeepSmiling89 · 25/02/2025 16:16

When I get a packet of sweets (Skittles for example), if it's a small bag/packet, I'll empty them out then eat them so there is an equal number of each colour. For example, if there are 5 yellow, 4 orange, 4 red, 2 green and 2 purple, I'll eat 3 yellow, 2 orange and 2 red until there are 2 of each colour left.

natura · 25/02/2025 16:16

When I listen to music I 'play' the melody by tensing my butt cheeks.

Left butt cheek for low notes, right butt cheek for high notes, both at once in the middle.

My butt should probably be perkier than it is...

scalt · 25/02/2025 16:16

I often wear trainers without socks, because I like the way it feels. They have to be the right trainers, though: I choose them with this in mind.

While my DH wraps my presents, I love to be in the room, blindfolded. Hearing him do it right by my side is almost as exciting as opening them later. It’s a silly ritual, but we both love it, and I feel cheated if he wraps one without me there!

AcquadiP · 25/02/2025 16:19

After locking the door I try the door handle three times before I leave for work.
I give my dog a running commentary of what I'm doing or am about to do even when outside. I get some odd looks🤣

Haha I posted on another thread the other day saying that I take a blanket to the cinema! It's because I'm inevitably going to fall asleep so I want to be warm and cozy whilst I have my nap 😅

I considered taking one a couple of weeks ago bit dqodqnt because I didn't want to fall asleep!! Husband did start snoring but adult dc was between us and I couldnt reach, so had to tell him to nudge dad!

Whippetlovely · 25/02/2025 16:20

changethat · 25/02/2025 14:11

I do this too! The tracing thing and the blanket to the cinema. I also count words in a sentence and need things to be even numbers despite my favourite numbers actually being odd numbers.

That's interesting, I count words too in my head and it does annoy me if it's not even. Maybe it's more common that we think?! I also have full conversations in my head my dd used to say mum your doing it again as I would sometimes make noises while doing it like a humming! Or maybe I'm just mad.

thisoldcity · 25/02/2025 16:20

I can't help counting things, eg panes of glass in a window, repeat of a pattern in a carpet, anything really...

Yerblues · 25/02/2025 16:24

I see people’s names as colours. I thought everyone did until I mentioned it and people looked at me like I was a bit weird.

I wish! I get random tastes come into my mouth from the past while I’m just going about my day. I’ll say “Ooh, I just tasted ___!” every few days. Sometimes I get a bad one. It’s always something I haven’t had for years.

I "touch type" what someone is saying with my hands in my pockets when I am talking with someone.

I do this! I think it stems from having to practice touch typing when I didn't own a typewriter.

I think of a rude word (usually c*t) then look at people and spell it out in my head, even people I like. When they're talking to me I then sometimes I have to get them to repeat what they've said because I haven't been listening, just spelling out a rude word directed at them. I also write rude words in fancy handwriting quite alot when I'm on the phone too or just zoned out watching TV etc. This one I don't even realise I'm doing it until I realise I have a whole A4 sheet of expletives infront of me. Sometimes looks like a crossword type thing where I've used the C in fK, to write CT vertically and so on. Other times it's just the same word repeated over and over in different fancy handwriting. Again, usually c*t. Often it looks good enough to call it art, but who would want that on their wall 🤣.

newkettleandtoaster · 25/02/2025 15:18

That is unusual!

Can I ask why?

Well when I'm showering I use the hot flowing water to clean my underwear. Also in the shower I use it (alongside the hot flowing water) to clean my bum. I make sure that any residual waste matter on my underwear is washed off by the hot flowing water before putting it in the washing machine.

Gavelicious · 25/02/2025 16:35

I put salad cream on scotch eggs and sausage rolls 😋

changedusernameforthis1 · 25/02/2025 16:36

I enjoy eating crisps after they've gone stale. Especially wetsuits - I love a hard, rubbery one.

DS has a little gel/slime timer in bedroom and I can't help but turn it over each time I go in there, or even pop my head round the door. He's started rolling his eyes before I even go up to it 😂

InMySpareTime · 25/02/2025 16:37

I don't hang odd socks on the washing line.
I try to make sure socks don't get separated in the wash, but on rare occasions when a rogue sock gets through the wash I dry it away from the decently paired socks so they don't get led astray and start hankering for the singleton life.
I then make sure the single sock is reunited with its partner ASAP by finding the other and washing it with anything I can use to make up a washing load. Once that wash is done I hang the pair together even though the early sock is already dry.
