I am very uneasy about both Musk and Trump. Watching Trump and Putin discussing ending the war in Ukraine without European leaders, without Zelenski, reminded me of Hitler and Stalin dividing up Poland just before the war.
Musk thinks diplomacy is a whistle stop tour where he scolds other nations and whips up a storm of extremely right wing feeling. Is he as ignorant of things as Trump? Does he believe Zelenski is an unelected dictator?.Does he favour Putin too? Does he want to asset strip Ukraine too?
The answered is, I think, is he doesn't care what's true or untrue as long as the US gets to control everywhere.

That would give a cash handout to every basic rate tax payer in the country of £464 per person. Which is the same as raising the basic rate tax rate by £2,322 per person per year.

My point is that Musk/Trump are trying to cut government waste as they see it and doing it in a more brutal way than anyone ever has before. These are the difficult choices a government needs to make if they want to actually make their people better off.

Do nothing and nothing changes. If you want to be better off you need a government that will change things.... like it or not Musk/Trump are trying to save the US huge sums of money.

Meanwhile in the UK we have a government elected on promising to make us better off but the first thing they do is vote to make pensioners poorer and kill 4000 of them (according to their own predictions).

I do get the need for savings, I didn't agree with the non tapered cut to the fuel allowance. Taxing higher earners woukd be better, I was expecting that and would have been happy if it was well spent
