Who are you? The thread police lmfao

I’ll keep posting when I like — I don’t bow to backseat moderators.

Keep the insults coming, it’s entirely predictable behaviour and tempting as it is, I really cba!

Enjoy your cult, and keep embarrassing yourself by all means. You clearly can be arsed. And yes. It was a nazi salute. Stop sniffing glue.

I don’t care, Margaret.

The attempts to be sassy 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe.

The reality is it doesn't really matter what happens to the US as long as it descends into an internecine crisis of some description that renders it pretty much impotent on the world stage.

Cui bono ?

Hardly rocket science (ironically).

itsnotjustyoumate · 24/02/2025 11:34

@SerendipityJane Will it affect us over in Europe though ?

Have you read the language you use? It really does follow the trump supporter playbook and doesn't validate your argument at all

Nobody's having a meltdown or frothing kid. But you're on here defending nazi salutes. You're gonna get insulted, for very good reason.

What is is you like about fascism?

OK, thanks. I mean total number of tax payers is closer to 37m so the figure you quoted would fall and doing that to get 464 in your hand isn't the first saving I would suggest.

I do get the need for savings, I didn't agree with the non tapered cut to the fuel allowance. Taxing higher earners woukd be better, I was expecting that and would have been happy if it was well spent

But there are ways to do it, this isn't one of them. It's crass, nasty and pathetic. It will backfire in many ways

But again they voted for trump so their problem. I am more worried about international impacts

According to The Guardian (admittedly not to be trusted) the number of BR tax payers is 29.5million.

So if we quit all foreign aid as Musk seems to be doing each BR taxpayer would see an extra £464 in their pocket per year. I know you were dismissive of that but it really is a lot to people living pay cheque to pay cheque.
In fact why not go further! Cut aid to Ukraine would save another £400 per tax payer. Stop the boats or immediately return would save another £800 per tax payer.
That's £1,600 in everyone's pocket without even asking them to take any pain themselves. Instead all our useless government can do is make things even harder for our tax payers whilst giving money away like there is no tomorrow. It's easy for them they are all millionaires.

We need a Musk over here to ruthlessly cut all the money being sent overseas etc when poor people here need it, and to stop Labour cutting benefits etc here regardless of their own estimates of killing 4000 old folk.

itsnotjustyoumate · 24/02/2025 13:38

I don't disagree we need to save some pennies ourselves ! I really do agree we need to start being a little more selfish and looking after our own taxpayer.
But I couldn't stand someone who acts like musk in our government.

@SerendipityJane Will it affect us over in Europe though ?

How can it not ?

However, an internally squabbling US is an opportunity for Europe a well as a risk. There is a path where Europe works together to replace the useless US and continue to rebuff the eastern threats. Admittedly not the path Putin would like us to take, but we don't have to do what he wants. I mean we don't have to support Reform. We don't have to treat the rest of Europe like they smell.

Our choice. Isn't that what we have always wanted ?

Few of us wanted this. However if this is what we are getting, then (much like climate change) rather than arguing endlessly over the whys, we could get on with the hows.

Getting right behind Germany would be a start. Personally I'd be thanking Musk for helping depress the AfD campaign. If he'd shut the fuck up, they would have done better.

SerendipityJane · 24/02/2025 14:27

What is is you like about fascism?

Sadly, it isn't a joke, but a lot of thick twats still think the uniforms are quite sharp.

Also the ludicrous titles -

"Reichsprotektorstellvertreter" (26 characters), which translates to "Deputy Reich Protector."

user9876543211 · 24/02/2025 14:33

I do wish Europe and the UK would put some real effort into attracting some US talent over here. Kennedy jr wants to shut down medical research and scientific advancement? Let's step in, build or expand facilities, become a cutting edge centre of excellence. I read something the other day about experimental trials of an MRNA vaccine for pancreatic cancer sufferers - a year and a half later, the patients who had had a strong T cell response were still cancer free. All that is going to lag and suffer in the US. We should be taking advantage of opportunities like that, creating some brain drain in this direction.

I'm from the Sates and many of us feel the same. Personally, I hope we fracture into multiple nations. We are too big and have too much power on the world stage. I cant, for the life of me, figure why so many people voted for this nonesense, but here we are.

I cant, for the life of me, figure why so many people voted for this nonsense,

It wasn't that many - 50:48 maybe ? For every Trump voter there is someone who did not vote for him.

Talkinpeace · 24/02/2025 16:24

Trump got less than 50% of the total votes cast.
Harris got less votes than Biden.
Trump's votes were more efficiently used in smaller states.

That the way the cookie crumbles.

A bit like Labour getting a parliamentary landslide with a well targeted low vote share

ColourlessGreenIdeasSleepFuriously · 24/02/2025 17:01

The point being the lack of a landslide will translate into pretty equal opposition.

Remember how Theresa May spend 2 wasted years trying to make 52% look like 100% ? With the added wrinkle that the 52/48 split in the vote was in reality 37.4%. Or to put it another way for every person who voted to leave the EU, two did not vote to leave the EU. Not even close to a simple majority.

And that is why ultimately every attempt to find a way of leaving failed. Not only was there no consensus. There wasn't even a majority. And on a single issue that simply could not be disguised or accommodated.

Same with green technology. US doesn't want it? Fine! Its rapidly getting so much more efficient. You stay in the dark ages, literally. Then wonder where your economy has gone, again

Again with misquotes

For a start tax cuts would apply to higher rate tax payers as well as lower rate ones so the figures I quoted are more accurate

Secondly I didn't dismiss the savings, inaccurate, I said there were better ways of achieving them and gave examples. Don't misquote me

Thirdly cutting costs without considering the consequences are what you and musk have in common. It's easy to quote a figure without giving the full context, hidden costs, alternatives. Its the type of thing quoted on the side of a bus during brexit. Headline grabber with no substance or actual likelihood of being achieved. Try getting more balanced, challenged and proven figures. It might actually give you some credibility.

SerendipityJane · 25/02/2025 09:46

The classic is turning off streetlights, saving $1 and then paying an extra $10 to deal with all the RTAs.
