A previous poster, probably very spuriously, claimed each tax payer would save over £2k pa if we cancelled foreign aid ourselves. I guessed this was rubbish, and asked them to confirm their sources as I could only find £74. I am totally against cutting foreign aid, although of course it does need close monitoring. I was disgusted when we dropped our commitment

The US budget deficit is currently around $1.9 trillion and the country is paying billions in interest on that debt. It’s like one of us living on a maxed out overdraft and credit cards, we’d be drowning in debt, a horrible situation to be in.

So government spending does urgently need to be reviewed, but the way it’s being done is what’s so shocking, talk about a sledgehammer approach.

From what I’ve read, Milei’s approach is working in Argentina and he gifted Musk the chainsaw as a joke. But Milei had a well-planned strategy, totally different to the mess we’re experiencing.
