She didn't seem distressed when I got back. Looks like she's just a chewer. My sprocker spaniel was-I've still got a TV remote with his teeth-marks on it. His Mum, on the other hand, never chewed a thing in her life. I could leave things on the coffee table or the floor, and they'd still be untouched when I came back. I guess I'm just out of the habit of putting things away.

Sue, I barely remember it, but I do recall our springer ripped the house apart the first time we left her alone and went out as a family one evening. Paper (and pieces of a birth cert!) from one end to the other. My mum was not impressed. I think my dad was rather bemused, though. My dad and our dog grew to have a unuque connection. 🩷😊

sueelleker · 08/05/2025 07:58

Mum; Our first rescue spaniel did that-dug a hole in the kitchen wall right back to the brickwork. It stopped as she settled in.

MyrtleLion · 08/05/2025 13:25

Dentist rearranged my hygiene hygienest appointment to Monday as a high priority case.

My complaint about Quiz clothing has been referred to Trading Standards. I bit a dress in 2023 that was a size too small. Having lost weight I finally put it on and the zip separated. Under UK Consumer Law I am entitled to.a repair, replacement or refund for faulty clothing within six years. Tags are still on the dress. Quiz said no because their policy (which doesn't trump the law) is no returns after a year. They offered me 20% off another purchase, which is ludicrous. Why would I ever buy from them again?

I will compose a letter before action tomorrow and wait 14 day before taking them to the small claims court.

MissConductUS · 08/05/2025 15:31

Myrtle, why was your dental hygiene visit moved up? Are your gums bleeding? I have to go for a follow up from my extraction on the 19th.

Miss, where are the turtles??? 😭

Lovely peaceful video you linked, Havoc. Yesterday was a bumper day for the turtles. I've drawn a box around the littlest one.

Daisy is using her window ledge to watch the birds in the yard.

Miss your eyesight must be so good. I struggle seeing the turtles, even with the box around them. Must get my eyes tested again 🤓
Love Daisy watching the birds.

Havoc I love the sound of peach jam, I’ve never had that. I have to search it out now.

I’ve got a riveting afternoon ahead, putting my tablets into my weekly pill boxes and cutting up some more cardboard boxes for recycling. It’s all go here today.

I need to find a weekly cleaner but not too sure how to find one. I’d like to get some recommendations and I keep looking on my local Facebook page but I don’t fancy interviewing anyone. I’m prevaricating again!

I've had pain in a back tooth for six months and at three visits and two xrays there is no decay. I saw a root canal specialist on 17 April and he prodded the gum behind the tooth which was very sore.

He thinks I have plaque there that can't be reached (missing wisdom tooth and inconvenient angle) so he recommended I see the hygienist. First avaliable appointment was 30 June. So I was a high priority.

DH is annoyed because he also is a high priority for the hygienist but I got the appointment first.

bizzey · 08/05/2025 19:38

Well I had my letter through today for my dermatology appointment next week .

I don't think it will be as I thought.

I will see a dermatologist nurse who will take specialist photos and stuff .
This then gets passed onto a dermatologist to assess.

Then decide on action .

So it could all be a nothing !!

MissConductUS · 08/05/2025 20:36

Uman, I'm glad you liked the picture of Daisy. She doesn't like having her picture taken. After I took the picture posted above, she turned around and gave me her "Mom! Don't take my picture!" dirty look.

Myrtle, the other possibility is that the tooth is fractured. The usually doesn't show up on x-rays. That's why mine had to come out last week. My dentist figured it out because the crown on that tooth was mobile and irritating the gums.

Bizzey, what's the next step in your treatment plan?

I'm having some tightness and discomfort around my iliotibial band and calf on the same side. I had surgery on the IT band a few years ago, which helped a lot, but it's still a bit of an issue. So I've messaged my orthopedist asking for an Rx for physical therapy.

The older we get, the more time we spend dealing with medical issues. It's a misery, innit?

Myrtle, I'm very impressed with your legal action re the zipper! Please post updates. 😊 I'm sorry to hear about your tooth pain, though. I really hope it will be solved with a thorough cleaning. 🤞
Miss, glad I made you laugh. 😊
Bizzey, I had a derm appt and referred me to plastics for removal. It was pretty straightforward. I'm not particularly vain so I told the surgeon wide margins were preferable to potential return appts. She happily obliged; moles were negative; I have a couple of scars. 🤷‍♀️ But a tonne of relief. 😅 I'm very fair, burn easily and have had several severe sunburns and a couple in childhood. So, a bit higher risk. I finally chose sun safe over tanning several years ago. It took a while to get used to long sleeves and leggings, plus a strong spf on exposed skin, but I know it's worth it.

Baby crashed on the drive home after activity and is still asleep. I'm just finishing lunch with Havoc. Pasta al burro e pollo * for Havoc and naan with spinach dip and a corn on the cob for me. I'm going to make a latte, watch a bit of tv then get dc out to play. It's cloudy and13c and I love the cooler temp.

*sounds so fancy in Italian, doesn't it!? 😂
(pasta with butter and chicken)

MyrtleLion · 08/05/2025 22:52

Thank you, Havoc.

I bought this lovely size 14 dress for £55, reduced from £80, in 2023. It was too small so I put it away and looked at it every so often. Then earlier this year I was dressing in size 12 and thought I would definitely fit into the dress in the summer. Tried it on and it fit. I was so happy. Went down to see DH and he said to turn round and then he said the zip has split. And then trying to get the dress off, it pulled off one side.

I asked Quiz what they could do and they said nothing because of their policy so I asked ChatGPT which gave me all the details of how to complain formally. Quiz were so sneaky. I used Resolver and they're supposed to reply via the email Resolver use but they came back to me directly. ChatGPT told me how to use Resolver to reply because that's public and how to make a claim.

It will cost £35 but I will get that back and the cost of the dress if I win. Usually the letter before action will go to their legal department who will hopefully just refund me rather than defend it. They must have spent over £55 on admin by now.

And for me it's just been a bit of my time.

mathanxiety · 09/05/2025 03:09

DD and I were chatting when news of the Papal election arrived, and I turned on the local news. The newscasters were quite excited as the new Pope hails from the area. The evening news had interviews with his brothers and some childhood friends.

My DM called to discuss the news. She's really on top of things even in her 90s.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2025 06:08

Myrtle, I'm truly in awe. 👏 Similarly, I decided quite a while ago now, that I'd return bad produce to Costco instead of throwing it away and "eating the loss" myself (apt expression!). I started feeling quite resentful sometime after Covid about the continued "supply chain" problems and reconciling that with the half bag of rotting zucchini I was tossing out. Or picking out too many moldy berries, etc. I've even returned eggs - which is how I think it all started! - because I was tired of finding broken eggs and throwing them away when I knew I had packed them carefully, etc.
So, good for you for standing up for what's right. I have noticed a real decline in clothing quality as well.

Math, it was a very quick decision, wasn't it?!

Had a lovely afternoon play with dc. We did a bit of a forest walk and then a school playground. They were good and tired and went to sleep fairly easily.

mathanxiety · 10/05/2025 02:04

Myrtle and havoc you're braver men than I am... Disappointing berries are why I started making jam.

Local newspaper headlines today - 'Da Pope', and wags chortling about finally having a guy in Rome. The city likes to send itself up :-)

We have a kitchen full of home made cookies, the fridge is festooned with charming little handcrafted cards, and there are three bunches of various flowers in the sitting room and dining room, as it's teacher appreciation week, and DD has been arriving home daily with very sincere tokens of appreciation. A friend of hers will be in town soon and they're planning a few fun evenings.

I can sympathise/empathise with your DS. Currently looking for accommodation myself! The prices! Who would pay 3K a month AND share?????!!!!

Seeing two studio flats this morning later so wish me luck! I will have more of a commute but cannot be helped (sigh). One of the lovely porters at work is driving me.

Currently waiting for the canteen at work to open as I am mega hungry! They are not in the full canteen until the end of the month so only offering toast and jam but it fills a hole!

@sueelleker

What a weird thing for the pup to chew on! Would love to hear about your pup, even if it gets us too excited!!

@bizzey

Hope everything goes ok. I smiled when I read about the school tie bit. Flashes of 'Britney' came to mind! Try not to worry too much about what the dermatologist said. But make sure you use high SPF from now on. Everyday!

@MissConductUS

My brother had an aloe plant. I don't believe he named it though!

Deathraystare · 10/05/2025 07:23

Well, I had a viewing of a studio flat. All I can afford is a studio in a shared flat . It was supposed to be two viewings but one place, the letting agent admitted they had trouble getting in! Was not impressed. He said he would send a link with photos but never did. Mind you, the place looked shit. The other place was alright (though tiny) and the kitchen was on another floor! I am so clumsy that even with a tray I would be falling over!

I am looking myself online now and found a few near me (cheaper too!) and the porter that drove me yesterday had found two other places. I went back on the computer and have a viewing next week, so things are looking up!

Sorry this was meant to be sent yesterday! Just got on today and sent it!

bizzey · 10/05/2025 12:29

@Deathraystare good luck with the flat hunting.
It is indeed ridiculous the prices 😕.

Mole is in an area that hasn't seen daylight for for over 30 years ...let alone sunlight !,😂😂.

It is lower down at base of my spine .

sueelleker · 10/05/2025 15:53

Took my new rescue dog on a 10 minute bus-ride to a nearby park., and walked home through some woods. She was a bit nervous on the bus, but we did ok. I wanted to get her used to it, as we've got an appointment next week for a health check at the vets; so that she can be registered with them. It involves a slightly longer bus ride.

MyrtleLion · 10/05/2025 23:27

Had a health check today as part of a research programme. Took the DH and his DD and his health measures are improving, mine are steady and DSD’s blood pressure is high and they couldn’t take any blood. However we will take her BP again next week when she’s more relaxed (possible white coat syndrome), then get her to the GP if it’s still high. I, pleased it’s been caught early as it can be managed.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2025 00:32

Deathray good luck in your hunt. Are you working against the clock (or calandar)?

Not sure what you mean by clock or calendar but I really need somewhere soon!

Deathraystare · 11/05/2025 06:49

Bit worried looking at the colour of my nails. I have had clear varnish on for a few days and my nails have a bit of a dark colour on them. I am hoping it is just the clear varnish but worried there is a health issue?

Umanresources · 11/05/2025 15:41

@Deathraystare My goodness, I can’t believe the cost of renting in your area. I’ve just been looking at apartments to rent near me. The most expensive was a four bedroom detached house - not shared - for £2500 per month. It was in a lovely area too. I didn’t realise there was so much disparity between prices in the north and south! There are some lovely shared houses as well for £700. I hope you find what you are looking for though.
Another gorgeous day here again, my DD is already in the garden. I’ll go and join her for a game of something.
