Help me with my living room again 😩

Sorry it's me again. So after thinking about doing something with my sofa that's gone out of the window.

But I do want to completely change the living living room. So basically change the walls and the floors, curtains.

My no 's are no dark walls. It has to be light although I will consider a medium sort of colour. Do I just paint or do wallpaper as well? Or maybe some sort of panelling

Floor wise I want to rip the floor up and put something better down. I'm open to the colour and type. I'm also now happy to put a rug down but short pile type.

I'm very against cushions and floor lamp/low light type. As I don't like a room that's dimmed . I like it bright light wise.

I have taken a few pics of the living room so there's a better idea.

I'm hoping to make a start this week.

So what's the plan next?

Why don't you finish stripping the wallpaper as you know you definitely want that to go

Yeah I'm going to. I might paint today. But just the white. I haven't bought the sage green yet.

Why do you need to paint white first, just go on with the colour.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 20/02/2025 12:25

OP, I presume your username is for this year only? Can you link to previous house things? It sounds like this is not the first room you’ve done as you made reference to it earlier?

If I do it white first then the shade is the same as it shows on the tin

Just do 2/3 coats of the colour you are using, what are you painting over?

It's better to paint white first. I have already bought the white anyway

Alot of my past stuff is very negative at a time i was struggling with my house. Keeping it clean and tidy . And other stuff in life was having a big impact. I don't mind adding a couple of pictures but I don't really want to link them as I don't want a negative impact on this thread. I'm not saying you would . But some people do.

You're doing great OP
I think you need to play around with the dismantled sofa a little to see what layout works best and you like.
I actually think changing the layout of the sofa will help you like it more

Thank you . I'm thinking that to. Its just the ends are putting me off

OP posts:
Normallynumb · 20/02/2025 16:01

I don't think the ends matter at all if you want to put them facing each other or sideways whatever looks " right" to you
Changing a room takes a while to get used to I think.

Youagain2025 · 20/02/2025 16:02

I really can't get motivated as all.. just not feeling it. Removing the wallpaper but forgot to get scrappers ffs so a simple thing is taking longer than it needs to. Kids are doing it at the moment . I'm sitting on my lazy but to see what I can get Way with before they get bored.

Yeah once the actual decorating is done. And i have all the bits I want. It might fall into place.

A bit late to the thread and I’ve only read OP’s posts but why don’t you embrace the black and white that dominates your current furniture choices? You don’t seem to like the saturated colour choices that people have suggested and you don’t want throws and cushions nor do you like low lighting, all of which would soften the look. So why not go the other way and go for a strong monochrome look? I knew an architect who had an entirely monochrome home except for a lime green cupboard. It looked fantastic, although it’s not really in fashion currently.

I like the idea of a gallery wall that was already suggested. I would extend the monochrome theme to black and white photos too.

Youagain2025 · 16/02/2025 13:14

Oh I still may take one bit away . I'm not sure. I thought about putting the bit i take away near the patio door the long window next to it. I'm not sure. But i want to put the sofa issue to one side for now. As I can't replace or get rid of it . So I would concentrate on the decor side of things for now.

Then I would decorate the room so that it complements the type of sofa you have in mind and replace the sofa when you can.

Youagain2025 · 20/02/2025 16:34

Yeah definitely better split i think . And end table could be an idea . I will have a think. Thank you .

There's no way I would do black walls . I know i have the black sofas and white unit. But black walls would really depress me same reason for low lighting it would depress me . I know lots of people see it as cosy . But its really depressing for me.

The things I say no to are either not practical for me. Or would make me feel depressed.

I do appreciate people's idea though 😊

I don't want to do that. It would not feel nice especially since it will be a,good few years before I get a new sofa. And I can't even think of the type I would get in a few years or so .

I think you need to add some warmth, the whole thing is very cold. I agree taking out a section of the sofa so it's less even would help, it's very dominant.
