Help me with my living room again 😩

Sorry it's me again. So after thinking about doing something with my sofa that's gone out of the window.

But I do want to completely change the living living room. So basically change the walls and the floors, curtains.

My no 's are no dark walls. It has to be light although I will consider a medium sort of colour. Do I just paint or do wallpaper as well? Or maybe some sort of panelling

Floor wise I want to rip the floor up and put something better down. I'm open to the colour and type. I'm also now happy to put a rug down but short pile type.

I'm very against cushions and floor lamp/low light type. As I don't like a room that's dimmed . I like it bright light wise.

I have taken a few pics of the living room so there's a better idea.

I'm hoping to make a start this week.

Not the best pictures sofas are not as they should be but I Need them away from the walls . I just wanted to see the colour with the sofas.

I have packed up early because my brain went to sleep. And I Need to sit and look at my window wall and think what to do with it I may need to go to b&q for other colours.

Wow love it

Wish I was that brave 🤭

Hot pink like the photo you posted with the zigzag rug would look good (you can only see a tiny bit of the pink wall).

The sofa might work as an L shape now you have bold coloured walls so it will seem less dominating.

You’re a fast worker!

Mirror on the orange wall.
Pictures with white frames on the teal blue wall. Not black. You need some white on this side of the room to balance things out a bit.
I would also leave the windows/doors wall and TV unit wall white.
Unless you wanted a pop of colour then I would only paint the wall bit behind the TV only. Orange or teal, maybe divide that in half and paint half off each colour to see which you prefer.
Or you could get creative and half that rectangle (behind the TV) and paint top half orange, bottom half teal!
As you say, if you don’t like it, you can always go over it again 😁

Do you mean this ? That may work actually 🤔 it would be next to the orange though. And i would like to possibly do a different colour on the radiator and long window wall. I do kind of feel it needs to be light though. Or simlar

Do you mean to add the corner part back and have it as a whole corner unit again?

Black frames with white mounts would probably work in the same way to tie in the sofa and the unit.

Adult ds has said i should have the window /door wall white .

I lost track what you mean about the wall where the tv unit /white cabinet will be . I can't have irange or teal there because that's in the other wall. Its a me thing

Maybe i will leave the window/door wall white . And faff about with stuff to bring colour in like curtains etc .

Sounds odd but im not sure i want anything with a frame plus I would need to find non glass ones.

Still not sure on the mirror. I used to really like it but it seens to small for the wall space

Yes. Try adding the corner part back to see how it looks now.

Adult DS told you not to paint the sitting room bright colours too 😂 You’ve got white on the cupboards. Don’t chicken out! Paint the other wall hot pink or another colour. It will look better if you go the whole hog.

Would the mirror fit above the radiator if you rotate it into portrait format?

Floralnomad · 23/02/2025 17:14

Blimey that looks heaps better with the colour and the sofas split up . I reckon you could definitely leave some other walls white , less is more as they say .

Yes it would . I thought about that to. Im just not sure if i can drill into that wall. I'm not sure where the cables will be for the light switch .

I was going to say Andy Warhol/ pop art style would be worth looking up!

Normallynumb · 23/02/2025 17:37

It really does look lovely
You can always pick a colour for accessories if you wanted to break up the white. eg cushions/ rug/ throws

I know everyone keeps saying split the sofa up but it looks so much better as a full corner unit. Yes it’s black, yes it’s big but it just looks ridiculous split up into to small sections, like you’ve collected 3/4 of a corner unit free on Facebook or something.

PinkPinkPinkBlue · 23/02/2025 18:05

I like you bold designs by the way, your boys rooms are bloody fab

I was thinking that about the sofas to. I mean I think they look better split in the room. Space wise. But the not having ends, does make it look like a freebie. I did look on dfs but its to expensive. Someone did have the idea of ends tables to hide the unfinished sofa ends. But im not sure 😕

I kmagree with this.

I think once you have some bold art, with such bright colours on the wall, the sofa with the corner piece in an L will look much better than it did with the white walls and it will look much better than it does with the missing arm pieces.

Youagain2025 · 23/02/2025 19:10

Of topic sort of. And its going to sound a bit silly. But i have been here for almost 3 years and it still doesn't feel like my home . I mean it's council but I have a life time tenancy. But regardless it should still feel like my home . But it doesn't. I was in temporary accommodation for around 6 years. I did move a few times during that time. But my last temporary I was in for a few years . I don't know if that has any sort of impact.

Also I think where it's a new build there's no character. I swear older house gain their character from the way they are build but also like a feeling from familys that have lived there over time. (I'm probably talking shit) 😅

I think its also the area. I'm still in my original brough but im not in the area that feels like home to me. To be honest I haven't been for over 8 years. I'm not in the position to move/exchange.

I don't know why I wrote that
Think its because I'm hoping decorating will help make it feel like home.

KnickerFolder · 23/02/2025 19:14

I’m sorry you feel like that. I’m sure it will feel more like home once you have put your unique stamp on the house. You’ve done an awesome job so far!
