Help me with my living room again 😩

Sorry it's me again. So after thinking about doing something with my sofa that's gone out of the window.

But I do want to completely change the living living room. So basically change the walls and the floors, curtains.

My no 's are no dark walls. It has to be light although I will consider a medium sort of colour. Do I just paint or do wallpaper as well? Or maybe some sort of panelling

Floor wise I want to rip the floor up and put something better down. I'm open to the colour and type. I'm also now happy to put a rug down but short pile type.

I'm very against cushions and floor lamp/low light type. As I don't like a room that's dimmed . I like it bright light wise.

I have taken a few pics of the living room so there's a better idea.

I'm hoping to make a start this week.

I'm going to have to do another coat with the teal colour was hoping not to. Never mind. The down side is theses colors are going to make the room look smaller.

I'm also wondering if I should somehow get a small about of black in there because if the sofa being black. Im not sure though 🤔

Edited

I did wonder about this too. Just an outline, edge, small amount to tie it all together.

I think you should go for your original idea. Just an orange wall is nothing like what you had in your inspiration pics and you'll not get the impact from it.

I couldn't begin to match those colours but you've done it really well before so trust yourself.

I'm not sure what you mean by this bit

Do you mean i should stick with one colour for the whole room. Or just do away with the triangle bits

Not the person you're responding to, but I think they mean to trust your instincts and have different colours on the wall! Honestly, the photos of your kids' rooms look fantastic. If you hate it you can always re-paint.

I would do away with the triangle bits. I would also get a different light fitting as the one you have is creating odd shadows.

Personally I would have left it all white for a bit. But I can see you're pretty impulsive!!

Justasmallgless · 23/02/2025 12:06

You have also got that gorgeous mirror which will open up the room a bit as well as breaking up the wall

Exactly that's what I was thinking . World won't end if it ends up back to white . Hopefully not though 😅

Yeah I'm going to get rid of the triangle bits . Definitely changing the light fitting . I might try and find one that sits on the ceiling.

I agree I'm impulsive I cant help it 😭

I absolutely love those colours together

Justasmallgless · 23/02/2025 12:33

Try it on the mirror on your darkest wall and see what it looks like

Excited to see what the final result will be.

And it's only the final result for now- not forever!

I swear most people can paint a room in a day.. then there's me.

I do stupid things to . Like I use frog tape so that one colour doesn't run in to the other . But then I don't use it near the ceiling or skirting or door frames. Then I get splodges of paint over them. Then I just say oh well . And then do the same on the next wall .

Pissed myself of doing them trangles coukd have been onto another wall buy now .

Think I have got over my fear of dark colour on the wall . The teal is quite dark for me. I felt all churned up when people were suggesting dark colours. I mean I couldn't have it in a place where I would be looking at it . But its going to be behinde me . So it's not so bad

Now i typed all that pointless crap I need to sort the orange wall

I'm not loving the blue, it’s very dark and cold, nor the triangles, they are a bit arbitrary. I prefer the other picture you posted with the teal sofa and the patchwork painted wall where the predominant colours were the hot, warm colours of yellow and orange with blues as accent colours.

The orange is fantastic with the sofa. It will look great with your plants too. I would almost be tempted to go for plain orange on all the walls but that is probably an anathema to you 😂 It would also look great with those wooden slats, if you want to revisit that idea. Very 70s!

I think you are right about adding in some black (and white) to tie things together. A bold white and black painting like the one in the teal sofa picture would be just the perfect amount. More white than black though, the sofa is a lot of black already.

But you should probably trust your instincts and ignore the naysayers like me as everything worked out amazingly in the end last time 😂

Floralnomad · 23/02/2025 13:52

I’d be tempted to paint orange in the whole triangle left on the blue wall and then blue in the triangle on the orange wall, that would tie it together but without adding too many other colours into the mix .

🤣 it's teal but looks blue on the pic. I agree it's dark there no way I would normally choose it. I'm only pl with it because it will be behinde me .

I would hate the orange in all walls 😅

I was going to put bright multi colour canvas on the walls? I don't know if I could find any with a really small amount of black in it.

I was going to try and add a really small amout of black to the wall with paint but I don't know what.

I done away with the triangles it looked crap😅

I still have the window/door wall to think about and the tv wall . Ds is telling me I should leave that wall white and not paint the sort of square bit where the tv sits. He also said I should alter the shelves and add them colorful boxes

You have been busy!
The orange looks fab against the black sofa.. a pop of colour as they say
Go with your gut
You can think about pictures etc when walls are finished
Black framed photos would be nice behind sofa, but please don't doubt yourself( which I've noticed you do!) or put yourself down.
Remember how far you've come.

Bergamotte · 23/02/2025 14:24

I agree that black frames on pictures would be good to tie in the black of the sofa, without making the room feel darker. I wouldn't paint any black on the walls.

👍 thank you . I don't mean to doubt myself /put myself down. Its just i have lots of things go through my head then I argue with myself about what might work what might not . The pros and cons . The practical side of it. What works for my family /situation.

I don't know if phots on the wall will work now. I will think about it .

Im feeling very impatient about joining the 2 colours together in the corner. But I can't do that till each colour is fully dry. I Need to think about the other walls now

Paint your own canvas! You could copy the ones in the picture that inspired you.

I think you need white more than black though. A tiny bit of black but something with a lot of white. Look at the photos that inspired you. Both have pictures with a lot of white.

I wouldn't be able to paint my own canvas it would look shit 🤣 I'm sure i will find something though.

Stop doubting yourself! If you can paint those complex walls you could copy the abstract paintings in the photo easily!

KnickerFolder · 23/02/2025 15:36

Or go all Jackson Pollock with a splatter painting!
