Lighthearted - What’s the most (stereotypically) middle class thing you’ve done/said recently?

I’ve just re-waxed my Barbour jacket…

What about you?

OP posts:

Complaining that I would have to buy another watch to fill the watch-winder someone bought me for Christmas.

Or saying very loudly in Tesco that they don't use the best bits of the Mango in their pots of mango cubes, and that we should add them to our Ocado instead 😫

Same question here. I thought I was middle class, but reading all the answers here, I feel much, much poorer 🤣🤣

Opposite for me, working class but apart from skiing i kind of do all the things listed here.

Janedoe82 · 13/02/2025 16:18

To Doctor friend ‘my daughter has burnt her bottom sitting on the aga. Do you think I need to take her to A and E?’

Not what I said exactly, but we had guests over a few nights ago which is quite rare for us, and I realised we didn't have enough glasses for everyone.
I could have bought an extra glass, but they wouldn't have matched so I bought a whole new set to accommodate one extra person.

Although I did come out with "Oh no. They've substituted our nice ham with the cheap stuff again" on Monday 😂

As long as it wasn’t the naice ham…

Made spelt and rye dough for pizza bases.

😂😂😂

On a serious note, I hope your daughter is okay!

Oh I couldn't get fresh oregano at the greengrocers which is so annoying
That's not from concentrate, is it?

and various other wankery related nonsense

I bought a tin of wax online. You just put the tin in a saucepan with boiling water. Then when it’s melted, you can apply the wax with a cloth 😊

Alternatively you can pop the tin in the simmering oven of your Aga 😉

As long as you don't pop your daughter on the top!

My mother outraged me by under middle classing her self and removing the aga from her house as it wasn't energy efficient and she wanted an oven. My sisters and I tutted. A lot. With envy that she had a house with one in the first place.

28andgreat · 13/02/2025 16:33

Asked if I should take the Jaguar or the Mercedes to work today

Then cringed at myself

Snowmanscarf · 13/02/2025 16:35

Got nothing to add, but loving these.

Reminding DP that I'd recommended reading the Odyssey, not the Iliad, as that is really just catalogues of ships and Achilles sulking in a tent.

And being cross that we'd run out of saffron.

My DD who studied classics always says the catalogue of ships thing 😆

whatapalarva · 13/02/2025 16:38

Conversation with a friend about my upcoming surprise holiday with my BF: "I do hope its not St Lucia again, business class is not the same when its a day flight"

I have a classics degree too. The ships were tiresome in Greek, let alone English! Fully team your daughter here!

NoisyBrain · 13/02/2025 14:25

Reminds me of the time I was in Waitrose and heard a man shout “Spatial awareness!” to his very young child who was pushing their trolley 😆

I have to admit shouting something similar on a few occasions to my then small child 😆
Also "inside voice please"

Mittens67 · 13/02/2025 16:44

Allthegoodhorses · 13/02/2025 14:17

I was in Waitrose the other week and the shop assistant was yellow stickering bags of apples. I grabbed a couple of bags and told him these would be great for my horse. I did cringe as I walked away to be fair.

That’s not middle class, it’s normal practice. My horsey friends vary from one who is very rich indeed through a couple of middle class people to majority who are very much working class.
Any assumption of class based on having a horse/horses is hugely mistaken.
Maybe it is in London though or other places which are more land poor?
Here in the New Forest pretty much everyone and their dog has horses and we happily snaffle up (pun intended) cut price apples be it from Waitrose, Tesco or even dare I say it Asda for our beloved equines.

I'm common as muck, but I did buy some avocados a few years back. I would consider them posh. We didn't eat them. we just had them sitting on the side to impress my friends.

Are you my sister?

murasaki · 13/02/2025 16:47

After my ex husband and I named our cat, many moons ago, and the little shit wouldn't come in at night, I realised I did sound like a wanker standing in the back garden rattling a box of biscuits, shouting 'Mephistopheles' . She became Toffee when we went to the vet.

YouAgainDamnIt · 13/02/2025 16:49

Complained to my councillor about something related to my company when I recently ejected him from a local venue drunk, knowing he is an entitledass who will remember my name. Grin

So glad to see I'm not alone in thinking/feeling this. I'm not actually sure what several of the food items mentioned actually are, let alone buy & eat them!

Middle class always seems to mean rich online. Like damn I thought the clue was in the name being "middle" aka average. If the things listed here are middle than I'm on another level of peasant haha

Squirrelsnut · 13/02/2025 16:51

Not me, but overheard at work:
'Where's Mary?'
'She's on that island. You know. Richard Branson's private island'.

YouAgainDamnIt · 13/02/2025 16:51

He was “having my job” apparently. Well see. Grin

Drove to more Waitrose than I care to admit on the hunt for reblochon so I could make tartiflette 😁

Yum, though!

wafflesmgee · 13/02/2025 16:55

School ski trip has been announced, DD has no interest in going.
