Lighthearted - What’s the most (stereotypically) middle class thing you’ve done/said recently?

I’ve just re-waxed my Barbour jacket…

What about you?

OP posts:
chelseahealyslips · 13/02/2025 14:39

Told my new cleaner not to use furniture polish on the quartz work surfaces.

God, I feel like a wanker 😂

Met my favourite checkout assistant from my local Asda while we were both out walking our dogs.... she wasn't impressed when I said that Waitrose and M&S food really isn't that expensive. I sense I'm going to get some stick the next time she serves me.

PinkPandaShoes · 13/02/2025 14:44

I was horrified when I found out that DC are fed potato stars at nursery. We really try and have organic food and very little UPF at home.

DH had no idea what a potato star is.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 13/02/2025 14:45

Don’t try to re wax it yourself, it’s terribly messy. DH sent his off to Oily Jack ( we think) they pick up and deliver it . They did a great job and sent it back in a really nice bag!

It is Oily Jack but for some reason I can’t delete the bracket.

MinnieCauldwell · 13/02/2025 14:45

Told my DSIS I hadn't time to talk as I was cooking my quinoa

wildthingsinthenight · 13/02/2025 14:45

Got a jar of instant coffee in the back of the cupboard but it's only for workmen/women (decorator/ plumber etc)

Thank you. I’m usually up for having a go at something but I could ruin the jacket. It’s a job for the professionals.

I've been navigating some very Hadforth-esque drama down at the Community Council.

"Read the standing orders! Read them and understand them!"

TickingAlongNicely · 13/02/2025 14:01

I'm on the committee for the village VE Day anniversary celebration

Oh my! I am too but would not consider myself middle class!

weegiemum · 13/02/2025 15:03

I go into hospital for a morning every 4 weeks, for an infusion that takes 4 hours or so (I have a neurological illness).

Today while dh was wheeling me in I noticed one of the side rooms was empty and I asked if I could sit in there rather than in the room of 6 women.

They looked at me like I'd requested private health care, then put me in there and it was LOVELY!

changedusernameforthis1 · 13/02/2025 15:17

Not what I said exactly, but we had guests over a few nights ago which is quite rare for us, and I realised we didn't have enough glasses for everyone.
I could have bought an extra glass, but they wouldn't have matched so I bought a whole new set to accommodate one extra person.

Although I did come out with "Oh no. They've substituted our nice ham with the cheap stuff again" on Monday 😂

Agapornis · 13/02/2025 15:21

Been putting off rewaxing my Fjällräven bag.

On the other hand, just did some skip diving for a bit of insulation board for the hole in the kitchen ceiling that's been there for over a year...

My sister overheard a mum saying to a toddler in Cambridge "I think you'll find that I've been more than accommodating, Barnaby" and though it was years ago, it still makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Hahaha this has really tickled me. It's the sort of saying that me and my mates would immediately adopt and repeat to make each other laugh.

HectorPlasm · 13/02/2025 15:26

My wife:

"Do think we need a day to day red wine carafe?"

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 13/02/2025 15:26

Said "yes thanks, I'm fine with the substitution" in my Ocado shop which replaced the Brindisa branded Membrillo with this

I've just spent the afternoon making handmade tortellini filled with pheasant in a creamy white wine and Parmesan filling. Then I restocked the logs for the burner and took the Gundogs out in my Land Rover, wearing a schoffel gilet and a pair of le chameau wellies.

I shit you not 😂 my life is a complete stereotype!

Ha ha ha! That's made my afternoon

I can tick 4 of those 5 if you substitute a small ginger cockerpoo and a clapped out Volvo ...

I was in Waitrose the other week and the shop assistant was yellow stickering bags of apples. I grabbed a couple of bags and told him these would be great for my horse. I did cringe as I walked away to be fair.

I have a compulsion to always tell the Charity shop assistants that the 'newborn appropriate' soft toy purchase is for my dogs' (several) Xmas/birthday/Easter presents 😂
misses point of thread

I have to tell the staff in Aldi that the 20 cans of sardines are for my dog and that I'm not a mono-food wierdo

user159 · 13/02/2025 15:41

My four year old telling me off very loudly in a national trust cafe as I didn't get a fork for her cake.

FriendlyEeyore · 13/02/2025 15:44

Dunno? Amended my Waitrose delivery for tomorrow? Is that MC?

Megapint · 13/02/2025 15:48

I'm common as muck, but I did buy some avocados a few years back. I would consider them posh. We didn't eat them. we just had them sitting on the side to impress my friends.

murasaki · 13/02/2025 15:53

Reminding DP that I'd recommended reading the Odyssey, not the Iliad, as that is really just catalogues of ships and Achilles sulking in a tent.

And being cross that we'd run out of saffron.

Arraminta · 13/02/2025 15:55

Had my hair cut with a new stylist this morning, chatting about holidays as you do. Heard myself say 'Oh I hate flying from Stansted but it's the quickest for when we go out to our house in Tuscany.'

Just. Kill. Me. Now.
