I can't even afford heat at the minute and half my bills haven't been paid. Yikes.

Brighteyedtriangle · 13/02/2025 13:40

You must not have been on mumsnet for a while if you thought this would go down well 🤣

I have no problem with seeing what people earn and how they enjoy spending it.

I love the Christmas how much have you spent threads but they never go down very well either 🙈

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 13/02/2025 13:40

That's insane. More than most must earn in 6 months 😳

That spend is so so different to mine
I would post mine but it's the other end of the scale as a single person

Differentstarts · 13/02/2025 13:41

Your clearly rich and can spend your money on whatever you like and there's nothing wrong with that. The only thing I would say and I would say this to anyone rich or poor. You need to protect yourself and not rely on your husbands money all it takes is a marriage breakdown, disability, job loss and your screwed

@Lentilweaver I’m going to add my twopence here. I work in a high paying industry, everyone earns well and all of the women “look after” themselves.

we all have Botox, blow drys and manicures. There are regular discussions around PTs, use of fillers and other tweaks.

it’s not that I want to look young, but I do want to look good and the bar is high because everyone is cheating nature in some way or another.

Which industry out of curiosity? I also work in a high paying industry and none of the women get beauty treatments etc - they mainly look tired, as do the men. And I'm one of the few women who wear makeup

DinoLil · 13/02/2025 13:50

£1300 on beauty... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don't even have that much money a month!

Tbh, I feel pity for the OP. She's obviously insecure, is posting her expenditure in the hope that people will applaud her. She's looking for validation. I hope some spending will go on therapy, moving forward, to help her rock bottom self esteem.

whatawonderfultime · 13/02/2025 13:50

Mine is similar to yours but I spend more on food, less on beauty, and nothing on kids (don't have any) or dentist work.

GreenFingersHelp · 13/02/2025 13:51

LostittoBostik · 13/02/2025 11:29

I dunno, I've come across some real workshy folks in that sector tbh

Well the person I know who's with one of the top 2 investment banks in the UK works from 8-8 quite often and sometimes weekends.

Depends on their position in the company surely.

Ok everyone I get it now.

Apparently the wrong forum to post these kind of things but many posters said they enjoy watching similar on TikTok etc so different social media platforms for different things!

MN used to be different. I loved having a nosey of what people got up to.

😕

Justgorgeous · 13/02/2025 13:54

I didn't know that watching how people spend their money was something people like to do. Maybe if you had explained that in your first post then readers could have chosen to read it or not.

The title might have been written by someone needing help with budgeting, or a lighthearted post from someone who's splurging on a long awaited holiday.

I imagine people who are interested in those sorts of TikToks actively seek them out. MN 'active threads' doesn't work like that.

I personally find it rather distasteful to be so blasé about not knowing where over £500 of your money went. What's the point of sharing that info with strangers?

MyDeftDuck · 13/02/2025 13:58

Are you bragging or complaining????

So true. I went from a 5* holiday, big food shops at Waitrose type lifestyle (courtesy of ex), to being on UC and at one point begging for a council property (didn’t get it). All because I relinquished my financial independence and squandered money on ‘stuff’ when it was coming out of our ears. For about two years I was in very dire financial straits. That was all a long time ago now (over 20 years) and things got better but if I had another life I would never give up my own finances (or stupidly sell the house I owned). That is why for me now ‘stuff’ just doesn’t hold any appeal. But no judgement or jealousy on other people’s spending.

There will be people here whose income is far more than yours, they would not dream of bragging, talking about their lavish lifestyle.

There will be others who are having to choose between replacing their kids shoes that let water in, or paying the electricity bill.

Either way, what is the point of a thread like this?

Boohoo76 · 13/02/2025 14:07

ManchesterLu · 13/02/2025 13:21

Sending your child to private school, while renting, is absolutely batshit.

It’s absolute batshit that you can’t read the full thread and would see that the OP is not from the UK and plans to return overseas. Very common for such people to rent (and very sensible as no point paying 10’s of thousands in stamp duty for a property they will only live in for a short time). Likewise, it’s common to use private schools in such circumstances as they are much more flexible with pupils who come from outside the UK school system and it’s easier to find a decent private school at short notice than it is a decent state school which tend to be over subscribed.

MerryOliveFinch · 13/02/2025 14:08

What is the purpose of this thread? Everyone look I've got money to burn and want to brag about it disguised as I thought people might be interested. Why did you think that?

Am I missing something here?

Rosecoffeecup · 13/02/2025 14:10

How embarassing that you think people want to know this 😭

wherearemypastnames · 13/02/2025 14:18

I think it's meant to make us feel more contented - we may be poor but at least we have some self respect ?

MillyVannily · 13/02/2025 14:21

This must be AI generated or similar as I have never spent pennies on dental work:

981.63

What a bizzare amount 🤣

It's generally a weird post tbh some amounts don't line up. Also, this expenditure is very high even for a high paid Finance job if we assume none went on credit of course.

I thought it was interesting. Don't be put off by the perpetually offended - it'll often be anger that motivates people to reply to a post like this one because you're not asking a question or anything for other (more reasonable) posters to engage with.

For what it's worth I also work in Finance and have lots of spare time.

There's a strong streak on MN of "If I can't afford it you shouldn't discuss it." Envy is an ugly thing. People should learn to just scroll on if they don't have anything constructive to say.

Very weird how op starts the thread
