I've never gone line-by-line before in my bank statement before

Just thought you'd all want a nosey 👀

Food: £337.15 (mid week top-ups)

Coffees/cafes: £181.30

Lunches and dinners out: £242.43

DC: £4,550 (this includes school fees broken down to a monthly number, lunches, weekends with DC like Harry Potter world as an example, kids activities like gymnastics etc, paid for by term but broken down to the month)

Beauty: £1301.20 (waxing, Botox, hair colour, etc)

Shopping: £216.39 (new ballet slippers for DC etc)

Misc. £545.27 (things I had no idea what they were on the line item)

Private dental work: £981.63

DH pays rent, bills, running the cars/petrol, insurances, date nights, nights out, holidays, savings, weekly "big shop" and everything else.

But then again if you feel the need to stealth boast on an anonymous forum for the dopamine I do feel for you tbh.

Beauty £1300??? Is this a typo?

@Lentilweaver exactly. I'm a bottom feeder in my company and industry. There's people on far higher take home salaries than me.

So you spent over £8k from your own wage? And you are a bottom feeder in your industry?

What do you do to be earning that amount?

You must me on over £160k.

Well done BTW

Why would we want to know a random persons spend? Are you trying to brag or am I missing something?

Solely for this reason I reckon... to brag, and probably to try and cause the usual divide with such things.

Maybe a lot of people are commenting out of surprise and not jealousy. If you don't have a wide circle of people that you know then some people won't have any clue of the kind of income and lifestyle that some people have. It's a different world to them. I personally posted that the beauty spending is nearly my monthly takehome not because I'm jealous but because it's so preposterous and comment-worthy, the wealth divide in this country.

I'm in an unusual situation in that I have a lot of savings (inheritance) and will be able to retire early but currently do a very low-paid job and work very hard for very little money, for something I really believe in for its inherent value to society (public sector, education). So i cut my cloth according to my income and therefore know the value of things, and the kind of income and lifestyle my colleagues' have. Conversely I also have experience of some very wealthy people and so know the wealth that is out there and the kind of lifestyle that brings you.

However, it absolutely blows my mind that people can be so crass as to start a thread like this on a forum which is formed of a whole plethora of people in different income brackets. OP, why didn't you go on Reddit on one of the HENRY threads?

I don’t see why it is crass. Some people have more money than others, that’s life.

lifeonmars100 · 13/02/2025 13:14

And the point of this is? to make people who are struggling to pay for essentials jealous? to try to get help with cutting down on the thousand plus you spend on things that you could possibly manage without? There is no context to your post such as what your take home pay is, what your partner ears, what type housing costs you have rent or mortgage.

DancingNotDrowning · 13/02/2025 13:15

Namerchangee · 13/02/2025 12:53

God that sounds hellish. Glad to be working in an industry where no one gives two shits about what I look like after reading this!

I don’t know that it’s hellish because in all honesty I like clothes and looking good. I do sometimes wonder about all the many hours and £ I’ve spent on having my hair highlighted and what a waste it might be, but ultimately I’m happier when my hair looks good so it’s a conundrum 🤷‍♀️

OP has posted in Chat. There doesn’t need to be a mind blowing point to a post.
I’m quite shocked by all the nastiness being directed at the OP for no reason at all.

How the other half live. Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/02/2025 12:31

Laughing at the thought of £1300 on beauty. That's nearly my entire takehome.

I can ony assume that such a large amount means that OP would look like this without it:

👹

Why be so mean?

Ok everyone I get it now.

Apparently the wrong forum to post these kind of things but many posters said they enjoy watching similar on TikTok etc so different social media platforms for different things!

MN used to be different. I loved having a nosey of what people got up to.

Why not post it on tiktok them ?

& Of course "Mumsnet used to be different"... There's been a cost of living crisis over the last few years & it hasn't been middle-class central for more then a decade so beauty budgets & private school fees have long been replaced

RockOrAHardplace · 13/02/2025 13:21

I have to say that I am struggling to understand the point of your post?

You have a great income, which you fritter away and the point is?

ManchesterLu · 13/02/2025 13:21

Sending your child to private school, while renting, is absolutely batshit.

lifeonmars100 · 13/02/2025 13:22

watch me go to Aldi this afternoon. I am going to get some washing up liquid, eggs and butter. I may pop into the Range for a browse and as it is very cold will treat myself to a hot drink at the local cafe. Wild times and big spends!

I find it interesting.

I am not bothering with Botox etc, but it’s your choice, I am just going to have one big face lift in mid 50s and buy 10 years.

Why are you renting? Does your company pay your rent? It’s possible you have a property elsewhere, if not, why not?

Why so little in supermarket food? Do you hardly cook and eat in?

You are not mentioning dh finances, you probably have a big cushion and planning for the future with savings.

Magnoliasunrise · 13/02/2025 13:25

I'm always curious when people say they work "in finance" - do you collect the subs for your local boys football team, do you work on the till at the bank, are you a hedgefund manager, are you a bank robber, are you head of finance at Amazon?

OP please elaborate, we all need to know.

Tone deaf stealth brag post from @lifeonmars100. Some people are struggling to heat their homes and you are squandering money in cafes. I suggest you make a donation to charity instead. Disgusting behaviour.

Xmasbaby11 · 13/02/2025 13:30

Wow, those are high outings! I'd love to know DH's outgoings and your total family income.

I imagine you both work long hours to earn such high salaries so I'm actually impressed you have time and energy for all the meals out, days out at weekends and all the beauty treatments - you must be very busy and out a lot. I suppose your nanny takes the kids to their activities. It does seem like you could save some of that but it's good you get to enjoy your money! I'd love to have lots of meals out and do less cooking.

Nonsense, it’s being spent in the economy. How much money is too much?

GreenFingersHelp · 13/02/2025 09:47

Boasting or what?

Who cares how you spend your income anyway.

We don't know you.

You're irrelevant to us.

This ^^

AnonymousBleep · 13/02/2025 13:33

I'm actually enjoying reading this because it's made me see that I don't over-spend. Clearly my budget is considerably smaller, and I have to pay rent and bills out of mine, and I save into a savings account and pension because I'm a single parent and there's nobody to look after me but me, but even so, I can afford not to be so hard on myself about everything and worry about spending on the odd lipstick or whatever.

I'd love to have that amount of money to spend like that!

I have a stern word with myself if I make an unplanned purchase from the 'centre aisle'. It does happen sometimes though as I am WILD.
