I've never gone line-by-line before in my bank statement before

Just thought you'd all want a nosey 👀

Food: £337.15 (mid week top-ups)

Coffees/cafes: £181.30

Lunches and dinners out: £242.43

DC: £4,550 (this includes school fees broken down to a monthly number, lunches, weekends with DC like Harry Potter world as an example, kids activities like gymnastics etc, paid for by term but broken down to the month)

Beauty: £1301.20 (waxing, Botox, hair colour, etc)

Shopping: £216.39 (new ballet slippers for DC etc)

Misc. £545.27 (things I had no idea what they were on the line item)

Private dental work: £981.63

DH pays rent, bills, running the cars/petrol, insurances, date nights, nights out, holidays, savings, weekly "big shop" and everything else.

This is some of the most egregious stealth bragging I've ever seen. Spending £1300 a month on your looks is just ridiculous. Weird that you'd actually want to publicise how shallow you are.

DancingNotDrowning · 13/02/2025 12:01

I quite like seeing how other people spend their money - at whatever level 🤷‍♀️

I’m fascinated by the things people scrimp on v splurge.

So I’ll take the OP in good faith - lots of women earn like her and are entirely supported by a partner.

Maia77 · 13/02/2025 12:01

Life's better when you get off the hedonistic treadmill.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Linens · 13/02/2025 09:25

LOL at everyone who pretends to find it boring!
If threads are that boring and dull I just click off them not scroll through four pages to say they are boring.
Watching high earners spend money is a staple of every form of entertainment since entertainment began. People love it.

I'd ve way more invested if there were pictures of the food shop.

I don’t get the toxicity and hostility because somebody happens to earn / spend more.

And talks about.

I have not seen OP say what she earns though - just what she spends. She implied in another post that she is nowhere near a high earner for her field.

Edited

If it was genuine I might have a bit more space for it. Because it’s clearly not adding up, I’m struggling to feel engaged and interested in a lie. It’s not toxic or hostile, it’s using common sense based on the information provided.

Viviennemary · 13/02/2025 12:04

You have frittered away an enormous amount of money. And are renting?? Doesnt seem very wise financial choices.

DancingNotDrowning · 13/02/2025 12:07

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/02/2025 11:33

Because that is where the line is drawn. Most people wouldn't divulge their financial position to you as much as you might be interested in it, because it's crass.

Those that have don't talk about it, they don't need to. Wise words told to me long ago.

I think it’s the fact that it’s the last taboo that makes it so fascinating when people share anonymously online.

within my group of friends I know such intimacies as how often they have sex, whether they’re on anti depressants, what nips and tucks they’ve had, whether they pee themselves when trampolining, fantasies etc.

I know very little about their finances other than what can be reasonable extrapolated from lifestyle or in some circumstances what might be reported in press.

Polkadotbabushka · 13/02/2025 12:08

Are you just showing off?
Go away, this is really offensive.

Wittyapple · 13/02/2025 12:08

This post is so out of touch.

You've spent what some people take home a month just on beauty treatements and botox.

Fair enough, you earn it, probably work hard and deserve what you earn, but this does come across as boastful. To put it into perspective, a lot of people don't even get as much as you spend on top up shops to feed their families for a month.

You're not posting here for advice, so have a bit of decorum and keep your spending to yourself.

Linens · 13/02/2025 10:29

@wherearemypastnames 100%. The whole capitalist growth engine relies on more people using more resources to buy more things. Completely incompatible with the relaxed simple lifestyle that would have a huge impact on our happiness and completely incompatible with the any effort made to preserve the planet as a place for humans to live.
So on we grind. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.

oh yes. the old trickle down economics. Trickling warmly on us with posts like this.

Gettingslimmer · 13/02/2025 12:11

How bad does it need to be that you brag on the internet. Or pretend brag.
if you’re that bored find a hobby. Or is this it?

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 13/02/2025 12:12

This is wild. If OP thought this was genuinely useful to someone she'd have posted it in Money. Instead it's gone in Chat.

Breadcat24 · 13/02/2025 12:14

This is a bit tone deaf considering some people are struggling

user263758918 · 13/02/2025 12:17

Ok everyone I get it now.

Apparently the wrong forum to post these kind of things but many posters said they enjoy watching similar on TikTok etc so different social media platforms for different things!

MN used to be different. I loved having a nosey of what people got up to.

OP posts:
Namerchangee · 13/02/2025 12:19

Well good for you. I’m having baked beans on toast for tea tonight if anyone cares.

Breadcat24 · 13/02/2025 12:20

Why not post a new message itemizing a foodbank donation?

Ladyluckinred · 13/02/2025 12:21

OP, how much do you earn? If you’re going to transparently share how much you spend, perhaps add in your salary too.

stayawayyyyyfromdatingapps · 13/02/2025 12:23

Conveniently no one gives a shiny shit about your spending habits.
That's only you I'm afraid.
How embarrassing.

Teasloth · 13/02/2025 12:25

And here's me living off about 1500 a month for Everything and still putting 100 a month into savings

Some of us just won't understand being able to spend 500 on things you dont even know what they are 🤦😂

People on MN seem incapable of simply not commenting on threads they openly admit they don’t relate to/are not relevant to them 😄

If you ever have any good beauty/designer buys please post in Style & Beauty, I always love seeing people’s splurges of the month. I am also partial to a ‘what I bought this month’ etc. on TikTok!

Lentilweaver · 13/02/2025 12:30

Am just going to assume this is real as I am very bored and need to avoid the laundry.

DH works in finance. Most of the women he works with are quite ordinary looking. Not high maintenance at all.

So I am interested in why you feel the need to spend so much on beauty? Do you need to look young? DH looks like he just rolled out of bed most days ( maybe double standards for women).

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/02/2025 12:31

Laughing at the thought of £1300 on beauty. That's nearly my entire takehome.

I can ony assume that such a large amount means that OP would look like this without it:

👹

Waterweight · 13/02/2025 12:32

"DC: £4,550 (this includes school fees broken down to a monthly number, lunches, weekends with DC like Harry Potter world as an example, kids activities like gymnastics etc, paid for by term but broken down to the month)"

Hoping for your kids sake you rent through wealthier family members cause this is insane if it takes up the bulk of your income

AsTreesWalking · 13/02/2025 12:33

Well good for you.
My entire monthly wage goes on care for my DH. Fun times.

RatalieTatalie · 13/02/2025 12:34

Spottyshirt · 13/02/2025 08:58

So neither of you save anything?

and you live in rented accommodation?

interesting

What's interesting about renting? I make good money but can't get a mortgage on my own. I spend more on rent than many of my friends do on mortgages, much to my disgust.
