Peter Kay should he handle hecklers better?

Doloresparton · 11/02/2025 20:55

Apparently Peter Kay had 3 hecklers removed from his show on Saturday night.
One man, who was with his ds, kept shouting garlic bread.
The woman that was removed shouted I love you Peter Kay.

Should a renowned comedian handle hecklers with more wit or should ?drunk hecklers be thrown out.

There's heckling and then there's pissed up idiots being disruptive. The latter should rightly be removed.

I've seen Russell Kane live quite a few times and he does lots of audience participation but absolutely wipes the floor with hecklers.

Jimmy Carr I saw once (wouldn't bother again) made some very borderline homophobic remarks to the heckler who suggested they'd thought they were coming to see Alan Carr.

CosyLemur · 12/02/2025 18:42

I just think it's ironic seeing as Peter Kay goes to see other comedians purely to heckle them and in the past as said that hecklers are what makes comedy and that comedians that don't want hecklers at their shows shouldn't be in comedy.

Come on OP, if you weren’t at the show, why are you bothered? This is literally nothing of concern to anyone who wasn’t there. Switch off the big light and go do something more interesting instead…

It’s Chat.
I put this on Chat.
Talk, gossip, chitter chatter, prattle, jabber, yammer, speak, converse.

Pleased to know though that if you’re not there when something happens you will never discuss it because it’s not your concern.
So why are you responding to my thread?

My daughter was actually sat next to garlic bread man.
When she sat down he asked her if she was English.

He was up and down to the bar and the loo, when a couple further along the row complained about the number of times they had to stand up for him he said to them 'what do you want me to do, fucking piss on you? '

Peter Kay did the right thing.

We’ve experienced this many times-in theatres, arena concerts, and at comedy shows. I’m baffled why you’d want to miss huge chunks of an expensive night out by going up and down to the loo or bar repeatedly.
We were at a show recently and the woman next to us flatly refused to stand up and let a bloke past for the umpteenth time. He tried to exit the row in the opposite direction and got the same response from someone else.

I think it’s been widely reported so wondered how bad it was.

Jimmy Carr seems to like being heckled.

He also chucks anyone out who is pissed and spoiling it for others.

Getitwright · 15/02/2025 10:40

Just read a further report today on BBC website. Most comedians agree with what he had to do.

The woman who was ejected said she now feels humiliated. I would say hurrah to that. She has been shown in no uncertain terms just how pathetic and downright selfish her behaviour was, and it was a choice she made to interrupt an event/concert and try to spoil a night out for tens of thousands of people, who had paid quite a bit to be there. Perhaps it’s a lesson to others who think their selfish behaviour comes before the enjoyment of everyone else. Let’s hope the male idiot who did the same also feels a complete and utter stupid fool.

FuzzyYellowChicken · 15/02/2025 14:00

The lady involved has done an interview for the papers released today by the looks of things. I can't understand how you can be so "humiliated" but then proceed to have your face in all the papers. Nobody would have a clue who it was if she didn't do that. Just making a bit of money while she can I suppose.

Pedallleur · 15/02/2025 15:10

Got a sniff of fame so decides it's her moment. Eject them I say. No one wants the idiot next to them or in front/behind. Insisting on singing loudly, dancing or sitting on partners shoulders. My neighbour works at an arena and had a punter recently who was 'monitoring' the staircase in his section. Had some theories the stairs were unsafe. My neighbour told him to address his concerns to the management and take his seat or leave the arena. They walk amongst us.

lastminutetrip · 15/02/2025 15:14

To previous poster, I think Jimmy Carr likes being heckled because he doesn’t have that much material that isn’t insulting people 😂

he doesn’t tell a funny story or paint a funny picture, he’s a boom boom tsk comedian. That works better for hecklers.

itsjustbiology · 15/02/2025 16:08

As an aside issue (sorry OP) is anyone else worried about Peter Kay? I think he looks very unwell lately. I think he is not ready for this tour, it must be gruelling to perform every night at such a pace. I do wish him well. Sorry for the derail just thinking out loud.

Yep happened when I went to see him. Woman kept shouting out complete random stuff so he stopped the show and just said be quiet or leave.. and she didn't return for the 2nd half..

I don't get why this person has gone to the press about it...you were called out for a reason!

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/02/2025 16:31

Just seen a clip of an interview with the Woman who was thrown out defending that she 'was just chanting We love you Peter, we do'.

Disappointing that the interviewer didn't ask her why she thought any kind of chanting at a show that thousands of people had paid good money to see was appropriate.

Meandhimtogether · 15/02/2025 16:40

We went to see Roy Chubby Brown a few years ago.
A man shouted 'luv you chubby' he was evicted straight away.
Roy went off the stage for 10 minutes.
Came back and said if you heckle I'll have you removed as people
have paid good money to watch ME.

Before anyone says anything I know he isn't to everyones taste.

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/02/2025 16:53

@Meandhimtogether Each to their own obviously but I'd rather be removed from a RCB gig Grin

Honestly I think its just the weight loss. My aunt looks similar having lost a lot. Some people just look quite drained when they have carried weight for a lot of their life and then dropped a lot quickly.

Getitwright · 15/02/2025 18:27

The whole audience gasped last year when he came on stage, but he laughed and said yes, it really is me. Good on him for losing all the weight to be honest, after 5minutes you realised he was just as funny, it was just a bit of a 🫢moment at first. He certainly looked well and had plenty of energy the night we saw him.

Yes, I am, and said so back at the beginning of the thread. There was the very long absence from the public eye put down to family/personal reasons and the odd picture taken during the absence that showed him looking anything but well.

I wish him absolutely the best of health and happiness but I suspect he did have a period of serious ill health during the time he was out of the public eye.
